Just because religion is in the news a lot doesn't mean that religious fervor is
strong. A lot of people are interested in religion because they see it as a
dangerous influence that causes conflicts and wars, or because they are atheists
but are intrigued by human behavior and psychology, or because they aren't
particularly religious themselves but like reading stories about controversial
fringe groups like the Westboro Baptist Church.
God has his ways . . .
When I hear Elder Dallin Oaks talk about freedom of religion being under attack,
I think of the protests against building mosques, and the recent congressional
anti-muslim hearings. It's shameful.
