It's been a great year to be a Cougarfan. The football season was full of ups
and downs but it was fun to see the development of the program and the eventual
emergence of Heaps as a real leader on the team. The basketball season has been
even more fun. Knowing that this was a special season I have made sure to at
least listen to each game and I have been well rewarded. I can't wait for next
year when I'll actually be able to see the games (hurray for leaving the MWC and
their horrible tv contract!). As an out-of-stater I can't believe how much the
rest of the country has been talking about BYU. I've been a more popular
professor this semester as many students want to talk hoops with me :). I hope
that the fun continues for at least 5-6 more games. Go Cougs!
If SDSU wins tonight I dont mind that they also would be MWC champions. They
are a great team and have a classy coach. However, doesnt the conference have a
tie breaker formula that would default to head to head competition? I agree that this is truly one of the best BYU teams/seasons ever no matter
what happens over the next two weeks. I was certain that somehow BYU
was going to end up playing Notre Dame in the NCAA. Great teams usually include
memories of great NCAA games. It is not a requirement but I hope that BYU gets
a favorable NCAA schedule and play up to their best abilitys.
Great article. I think it really encapsulated the epic scope and dramatic feel
of this season. Once you factor in the amount of tweets and stories on ESPN and
every other national sports show and web site on Jimmer, Brandon, and the team,
the Cougars have had unbelievable exposure (as well as success). This
season has been so dramatic, talked-about, and amazing, it could easily be made
into a movie.Great job, Coach Rose and team!
The most amazing part of this team outside of Jimmermania is Coach Rose. He has
coached, strategized, planned and managed this team to a 28-3 record. First
goal accomplished with a MWC title in hand. Compliments to the team and a real
COACH. Go Cougars.
Congrats on your great season. The ncaa tourney is really what marks a special
season. At least wait until after the post season to reflect and rank the
greatness of the season. It's too early, but good luck.
To: bigutefan -- Is it too early for the Utes to reflect on their season?
Perhaps that's what you should be doing instead of trolling on BYU articles.
Although it has been fun so far, agree with bigutefan. Quite
possibly, the best is yet to come.Either way, it's been a fun team
IndianaCoug, I'm in the reverse situation as you. Born and raised near Indy, I
have basketball in my blood (maybe literally?). I am an IU grad, currently at
BYU. I enjoy BYU football--I even like it more than the Colts--but basketball
is my true sports love. It really has been a once-in-a-generation season.Alas, with work, I never could make it to any of the games. At least I
took yesterday off (I called it my birthday :-) ) to go see the game. I should
have known by all the tents I saw walking to and from class Friday I needed to
get there earlier than a half-hour before tipoff, because by then the quota of
5000 all-sport pass holders had already been let in. And yes, it has been that
way for the last month. These last two games they had to set limits on the
student section.Well, I imagine the MC must have been rockin'; the
official BYU release says it was filled to capacity at 22,700.I also
hope Davies can come back. We all make mistakes, and it's unfortunate his
became so public.
bigutefan,Regardless of what happens in the MWC tourney or the NCAA
tourney, this has been a great season for Cougar basketball. Even if BYU loses
in the first round, it has still been a special season. The games have been fun
to watch, the excitement has been electric with Jimmermania, and seeing BYU as a
top story on ESPN about every other week has been incredible. Seasons like this
only come around once in long while, and it's truly been an amazing season to be
a part of!Congrats BYU for your accomplishments and a very memorable
basketball year so far!
I don't understand the support of Steve Fisher for coach of the year. While I
respect the man for what he has done to turn around his team, and I think he is
the only single piece of the puzzle at SDSU that truly has class, Dave Rose has
done much more with less talent and more challenges (including pancreatic
cancer) to reach the pinnacle of the conference. (Not to mention that the
Cougars swept the Aztecs.)Dave Rose ought to be chosen as coach of
the year in the conference and all of division 1 basketball.
This has definately been one of the most exciting seasons to follow in quite
sometime. Jimmermania and his push for national player of year, Jackson Emery
and setting the record of all-time steals at byu, the incredible job Coach Rose
has done in leading this team into a top 5 team in the country, and the overall
accomplishments of this team. Hopefully they can continue this through the
tournments and make a deep run in the big dance, but no matter what happens from
here on its been a season to remember.
To bigutefan-- I suppose that many of us remember your great run a few years
back when you played in the final game. It was a great year and many of us
truest blues cheered you on. May we have the same luck you did plus one more
half of basketball. You came SO close! (If only we had a Mike Doleac at the
Classy comment VERACRUZ.....VERY CLASSY! Unlike Classless Nottyou at 7:05 a.m.
who does not recognize the difference between a compliment and criticism. On to
Vegas Cougs.....and lets kick some butt!
