By the numbers, and considering the opponents, Jimmer clobbered Willis!
NM matches up against BYU better for some reason, but it's going to take a
miracle for NM to upset them this time...or I could do the Azztec fan thing and
complain about refs.
I know they mostly vote on record, but how is BYU a better team than Duke, Pitt,
Purdue, or even ND? Look at the "strength of schedule", and BYU drops
to #7 in the realistic world. Still good, mind you. Of course we all know
Texas was also overrated...thumped by K State.
Steven Rogers - I guess it was minor thing when he limped during that sdsu game.
Good to know that he is fine.
The SDSU game was so important that it will be a challenge this week to keep the
intensity level up. The fact that NM beat BYU in the PIT OF DISPARE may be
enough for BYU to come out strong. We will have a loud proud crowd there to get
things ramped up! BYU by 15.
J-TX. I am super confused by your comment. Looking at 'Strength of
schedule", your argument dies. All the strength of schedule stats I can
find put BYU ahead of those teams. Just sayin.
So awesome that BYU and #1 seed are being mentioned in the same sentence! This is definitely a year to remember.Great to be a Cougar
One game at a time, please. One game at a time. There are still a lot of
basketball minutes between now and that number one seed.
J-TX: If the AP and coaches polls went by strength of schedule, BYU would be
number 1 in both, just as in the RPI, which does go by strength of schedule.
J-TX "I know they mostly vote on record, but how is BYU a
better team than Duke, Pitt, Purdue, or even ND? Look at the "strength of
schedule", and BYU drops to #7 in the realistic world."Have you actually looked at SOS?RPI Team Record SOS vs RPI Top
50#1 BYU 27-2 #11 9-1#2 Kansas 27-2 #13 6-2#3 Ohio St 27-2 #27
6-2#4 SDSU 27-2 #26 4-2#5 Duke 26-3 #36 8-2#6 Purdue 24-5 #15
5-3#7 Pitt 25-4 #24 8-4#8 G'twn 21-8 #1 8-8#9 ND 24-5 #31
9-4#10 NC 22-6 #14 4-4Strip away the team names and look
strictly at overall record, SOS, and record against RPI Top 50, and it's clear
that not only is a #3 ranking and a #1 seed deserved, it could easily be argued
that the #3 ranking for BYU is too low.
I hope the Cougars there fill up the Marriott Center and show them how we play
ball in our house. Gooo Cougars!
I absolutely love how the Cougs are playing right now. I like Abouo in the
starting line up - I think he has a better outside shot than Collinsworth which
spreads the defense. And I love the versatility that Collinsworth brings coming
off the bench - he should get plenty of minutes subbing in at the 1, 2 and 3
spot. I'm impressed with the minutes Rogers is getting. We all know he's a
great outside shooter, but he's getting more rebounds and playing solid defense
against some of the "bigs".I do wish we had C.
Collinsworth to give us one more big guy against some of the strong front lines
we'll see when we reach the Sweet 16. But if we can continue to stroke the ball
from beyond the Arc like we did against SDSU, we have a real shot at reaching
the Final Four.
At least the National Champion is decided on the court in basketball and not
from the inside of a computer server in a closet in some building somewhere.March Madness>BCS
I wish I could be there on Wednesday and Saturday both; however, I live near the
People's Republic of Seattle and have to work. I don't even have The MTN up
here.I would even go on a diet so I could wear my old missionary
suit!I am looking for BYU to make a statement with this game. A 30
point victory would be sweet (but unrealistic).Just win what ever
@ J-TX,I'm curious to hear your response to those who answered your
strength of schedule concern. You wouldn't claim that 21-8 Georgetown deserves
to be higher simply because of their #1 SOS, would you?The
second-best strength of schedule among the Top Ten is a great achievement for a
school outside of the so-called "power conferences." Granted, I'll
admit that there are a few other Top Ten schools with a comparable SOS, but BYU
is certainly playing well and putting together an impressive resume for the NCAA
tournament.Rise and shout!
young, skilled, energetic BYU team: 'We got one!'older, experienced

the Denver Pepsi Center: 'That's no moon...'ute troll: 'Oh, I'm
afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive.'

'yeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!'the general population: (celebrating in
the tree tops; fireworks; flyovers) - May the Force be with you
1 seed, 2 seed, #1 SOS, #2 SOS, who cares . . the nice thing with NCAA hoops is,
all this really means very little. A 1 seed would be nice for the fans to crow
about, but it's really no major advantage over a 2, which barring an unforeseen
collapse is the worst-case scenario right now. Once you get to the dance, you
gotta turn up your game and win, or your seed means nothing. Getting a 1 seed
and getting knocked out before the Elite 8 would be a major letdown.I hope Rose's message to the team is: forget the various seeding scenarios,
ignore the current status as the sports' media's shiny new toy, forget the fans'
hyperbole; just prepare for the next game and play. There's no team in the
country they can't beat, but it's wide open this year . . any one of a dozen
teams could take the whole thing. FOCUS.
Folks from the "Big Boy Conferences" back East say BYU doesn't play
the same schedule that they do and is not worthy of a great seating in the
tournament. The schedule this year says that they have played a tough schedule
and many have been on the road and at neutral sites. I like to refer to several
of those conferences as "Self Preservation Conferences". I know that
Athletic Directors at BYU have made hundreds of calls trying to schedule teams
from those conferences for games and the answer is almost always no. That
includes football and basketball. Why, BYU is a tough place to play and frankly
I think they are afraid of loosing. Notice how several "Big Teams" are
refusing home and home games and insisting on neutral site games. Take Arizona
for example. BYU fulfills the commitment to go there but they refuse to return
to Provo. That is not the first time. Look at TCU in Football. Last game at TCU.
Next at Jerry's House. My feeling is when you refuse to play and decide on the
court you can't in all honesty complain about schedule.Jeff
Just focus on NM - they have owned us for two years now, have to break that
Much ado about nothing is what will happen if we don't hold serve at the MC.
Show up Wed and Sat. Show your support and yell the roof off. NM next up.
Wooooooh. Great stuff.Charles needs to repeat at home and then he'll earn
the respect of the defense opening up more open shots for Jimmer.
3rd highest viewership for a game this season - very impressive. Looks like
people may be interested in the Cougars. Can't wait for HD and every game
televised next year. I am hoping that Heaps can make losing Jimmer
