"Tremendous effort," said Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin. "In the last
couple of weeks, he's really been focusing in on where to get the ball, where to
get his shots, and putting pressure on guys to stop them at the basket. So he's
coming, he's getting a lot better.""I'm just doing what I
do best, getting more confident in this offense," Jefferson said. "My
teammates do a great job of getting me involved. This is the first time I'm
really feeling like my old self since the injury. I'm doing what I know how to
do best."-----------Funny what knowing they have a
chance to be an option not an afterthought is doing for AJ and AK...
Al Jefferson is a beast...he always been...he has a lot of low post moves in his
arsenal...and he is known for that...all we need is a good wing...that could
consistently shoot and defend...trade CJ and Raja at draft day for a solid pick
or couple of picks and a key role player...hold on to Memo's hefty expiring
contract...for free agents that could help us...or if a good trade comes
by...and we would be all set...im hoping that...a duo of Al Jeff and Derrick
Favors next year...i think favors would be better...
Jefferson is playing hard, scoring well, rebounding fairly well, but he doesn't
box out enough. Let Fes back him up for 10-12 minutes a game. Trading baskets
just doesn't get it done in the end...we need defensive presence in the middle.
I prefer to have AJ to Garnet at this point. He and Favors are the franchise of
the future. AJs WP48 is stellar in the last few games. You can thank
AJ (and Corbin) for the vastly improved play. AJ is making hard cuts, he is
setting picks and he is now close to the basket making QUICK moves to the rim.
With DWill gone he has to carry the team and IS. Corbin has tweaked
the offense so that AJ is now effective. He is in the right place (for him) at
the right time, making quick moves to the basket.Look for both
Harris and Favors to improve a lot. Millsap will also as Harris gets more
familiar with his game. AK has already improved (wing on AJs side).Corbin has to adjust the D. That will come as he gets practice time. Watching
film, one on one with key players, has to be advantageous. The rest
of this season depends on Bell, CJ and Hayward deciding to play and/or getting
their shooting touch back. The Jazz live or die with the D and the
wing shooting from here. One good wing would really help.
Is Utah better off getting into the playoffs and getting post season money or
should they flop and get an extra pick in a weak draft. Several first round (not
lotto) picks will be available for less then usual. They could take the post
season money and buy an extra pick if necessary. Further, if the
Jazz get the lotto pick this year they give up a pick next year in a better
deeper draft. As the Jazz evolve a couple of questions need to be
ask. Are Evans and Hayward worth keeping and developing? If you add 2 more
rookies to the lock out year is that to much youth with Favors, Evans, Hayward
and 2 rookies? On the other hand they are relatively cheap and if
they play well that is great. Further, there are plenty of non productive VETs
on Utah's team.
BigAl will end up like DWill.
cj needs to go!
If CJ and Bell are so bad, what team out there would trade for them except the
Timberwolves? Why would another team want bad players with no expiring
contract?Bell is never going to be good again. CJ who knows at this
point? In the bigger picture, the Jazz need to rid themselves of Memo
and his 10 million a year contract. Same with AK at the end of the year. Those
two are eating up 27 million a year. 27 million can buy you a very very very
very very good player.
I've been really down on the JAZZ sice Coach Sloan quit and they traded DWill,
but watching last night's game made me start feeling quite a bit better. Even
though we lost, we were right in there all the way, and for the most part, we
looked sharp. Big Al is probably the biggest reason we were so competive--what
a class act he is. He might leave in the future to get closer to family, but
it's not the first thing that enters my mind, especially if as a team we can
start winning. I don't know why anyone would want to let AK go, his
contribution is stupendous in ways that don't show on the stat sheet. He's
playing with so much energy. If we lost him and replaced him with a draft
pick---man, players as naturally gifted as AK don't come along--even in the
lottery--more than once a decade. I'm worried about CJ; I thought he was
starting to really look good before DWill left, but now he's lost his confidence
or something. I guess that's natural; they were good friends.
The one person I have lost respect for is Kevin Garnett. I felt sorry all those
years he was stuck in Minn and with a bad team, but now that he has had success
he is showing his true colors, black, yellow whatever! What a jerk!
Yes Al has been tearing it up on the offensive end and yes every team in the
league is running a pick and roll when Al is in the game! If the Jazz are going
to make a run, Al's defense needs to get much better in pick and roll
situations. Otherwise, welcome to the NBA draft at the end of the season. Can someone make an outside shot consistently? I can't remember a worse
outside shooting Jazz team. Brewer would fit right in.......oh wait except he
would actually play defense on the perimeter.
I don't understand people who like Fesenko. AJ, Milsap, Favors, and AK.
That's the best rotation the Jazz have this year. Next year: AJ, Milsap, Favors,
and Tomic (hopefully!)Fes stinks. I don't know what people see in
him. Every time he's out there he gets fouled or fouls people himself.
Consistently inconsistent. Can't make a free throw. Definately ruins the rhythm
of the game. And I'm saying this with the hopes that he can become better.
But after watching Favors (rookie!) do better in 3 games than Fes has done the
whole season, I'm set on 'no Fes' forever@Hugh G. HaterBig Al
doesn't have that same ego + he lost in Minnesota 3 years and didnt complain as
Now if we only had Wes Matthews back...Keep AK. I'm sure he will
renegotiate for far less money and he really wants to stay. He contributes in
so many ways.CJ has got to be consistent with his outside shot and
at least scoring at the basket, or he's got to go. I really like the kid, but
it's been frustrating (probably more so for him than us).Favors and
Harris are fitting in great! They seem like classy guys who will hang around a
while and help build this team over the next couple of years into a top
contender. With the Mavs, Lakers and Spurs getting old, the timing couldn't be
better for us.
Seriously? This is like saying somebody on the titanic was bailing
water with a cup twice as fast as they were before. So what.Contact me when this team decides to box out and rebound and play some
defense. At the beginning of this season we were holding teams to
97-98 points a game and we were top 10 in defense. Now? We made the
anemic Detroit Pistons look like the Phoenix Suns giving up 120 points to them.
Offenive rebounds and 2nd chance points galore because Jefferson and Millsap
can't box out my grandmother evidently. We are currently 28th in
rebounding. 28 of 30 teams. The sooner we get a new frontline the
sooner we might win.Neither Millsap or Jefferson will show on pick n
rolls. Guards roll, penetrate, layup/pass = open shot. Rinse. Repeat.Favors plays defense and rebounds better than either one of these two. How
many times last night did we watch Garnet hit wide-open uncontested jumpers? He
shot over 50% from the field and had 14 rebounds. He averages 10. Where was
Jefferson?Standing, watching.Fantasize all you want
about the offense but it won't matter until they play defense.
Jazz Source: Great Post!!Millsap and Jefferson are killing this
team. Hopefully in the off-season the Jazz trade Millsap and give his minutes
to Favors. Pick up a 2 to replace the ever-aged Bell.I
like AK over Millsap off the bench on the front line with Jefferson and
Favors.CJ needs to grow up fast or he is gone too. Please Please do not sign Price to another contract. What a waste of playing
time when he is in the game. Give it to the younger players who actually have
potential to grow into something.Memo........Terminate him. He is
done playing basketball. He is Harpring all over again in the last year of his
contract.Elson? Why did the Jazz sign him? Fes, please
do not give him any more playing time.
I heard before the draft that OKC was interested in Milsap, if that is still the
case they should try to get Harden and Collison for him. Collison is a hard
nosed tough, hustler and Harden can score and is a young 2.
Appoligy: I meant before that trade deadline, not before the draft.
CJMiles: I have always loved CJ's potential but he is the perfect example of
potential and reality not always being the same. I still hoped for CJ's
improvement and development but it is hard to continue to be positive about him
when he consistently plays like he is playing. One of the biggest problems with
trying to stay positive about him is his lack of intensity, hustle, and heart.
He has been in the league almost 6 yrs and still only shows bits and pieces of
what he can do. If he would just bust his behind and hustle and fight like
Mathews did, I would be OK with him but he doesn't and it is hard to stay
positive all the time.I will continue to hope he comes around as long as
he is a Jazz player (even if he is traded)but I won't hold my breath. He seems
like a good kid, with a good attitude but doesn't seem to have a good work
ethic. He can't become like a Koby, or a Ray Allen or a Reggie if you
don't put the work in.
Captain: CJ is done. He doesn't have what it takes to make it in the NBA. He
has quit much like Dwill quit on the team. Trading him may give him a new life
but he is done in Utah. Corbin need not waste his time playing him anymore
until he decides to grow up and be a man.
@jazz source, "How many times last night did we watch Garnet hit
wide-open uncontested jumpers? He shot over 50% from the field and had 14
rebounds. He averages 10. Where was Jefferson?"He was shooting
11-21, scoring 28 and rebounding 19and where was Garnett? We
do need better pick and roll defense, we also need to actually set the pick on
the pick and roll offense. Somebody, anybody needs to hit a 3 on occasion. The
difference in the game last night Jazz 1-7 on 3's Boston 7-15.BTW
look for the Jazz to go 10-4 in March
Knight has a point.....If Jefferson can score 30 a night, who cares if he plays
if Corbin continues to allow Bell to play huge minutes, I think Corbin should be
fired..I think Bell's time is over, I think it's better for him to retire, he is
not the Bell the we used to know, we just have to accept the reality of
things..the management should talk to CJ, I think he is still affected by the
trade of D-Will,if he continues of poor play, I think Corbin should sit him out
the rest of the season.
Starting and playing Favors next to big Al would compensate alot for big Als
short comings on defense and boxing out. Favors is very quick for a man his size
and he knows how to quickly slide over and get into position to defend or box
out. Milsaps energy could be utilized in the 2nd unit.
CJMiles: I'm surprised you are so down on CJ, you may be right and he may be
playing like he is because of DWill but I hope he is more of a man than that. If
he is that fragile , your right he won't be able to make it in the NBA even with
another team. I hope your wrong and it just takes him a week or two more to pull
out of this funk and start to play better. If he can play to his potential, he
is worth keeping but so far he isn't showing he can. I question if he can
improve and play like he needs to, because of his work ethic. I will still hope
he figures things out but I won't hold my breath or count on it.I would
rather have CJ in the game than Bell though. I would rather have Hayward than
either one of them the way they have been playing and Hayward will just get
@CJMiles--dude what is up? Last week you were saying you hope AK takes his
talents elsewhere and CJ could do NO wrong? Why the sudden change man? Is this
the same person or an impostor? Anyway, I have mixed feeling about CJ. I agree
with everyone's post about him and his work ethic, being fragile, etc. There are
these very small glimpses throughout the game exposing his talent. The kid can
play and it's sad he doesn't see it. I would love nothing more than for him to
come around and grow into the the player he can be. We need his outside shot
desperately. Please hire Ray Allen for some help and tips. This guy is flat out
amazing and his work ethic; it's humbling to see what has has done in his
career. He deserve it all. I hope he (CJ) can find his shot soon. Bell needs to
be benched and Corbin needs to man up and just do it. I like Hayward's hustle
but WE need a shooter and right now he's not the answer. Defense and outside
shooting need to be greatly improved. Go Jazz
I am tired of standing up for CJ night after night and he doesn't want to put
forth the effort to be a better player. I am done defending his laziness and
lack of hard work. I have never seen such talent go to waste as CJ's. The guy
will be flipping hamburgers if it were not for the NBA. You would think he
would wake up and see that he is one more bad game away from being benched for
good. Then his career would be over as a basketball player. CJ
wake up and start putting in the work to be the player you should be.
CJMIles: A question for you, you live in Dallas, I am assuming, does that mean
you know CJ or have seen him play while in HS or what is it that had you so
devoted for so long? His potential is what I have seen and hoped would
develop, because that would help the Jazz that much more and give them what they
need.I agree with you though, he is lazy and won't work hard enough to
develop that potential.
CJ-Is that you out there is it Sybil?
CJ-I just hope this is the real CJ Miles and if it is I'm impressed you have
come around buddy. However, I'm not giving up on CJ just yet as I see glimpses
of serious talent on the court. I know--the dreamer. Can't help it. I'm trying
to be super positive and we need an outside shooter. Guess what folks beside CJ
and his erratic play who else we going to rely on for "some" shooting?
We have no one right now. Okur has to seriously prove he is healthy enough for
the rigors of the NBA--not convinced. Now, if I'm wrong I will eat every word
and apologize. Right now I rather see CJ on the floor than Bell. Bell is washed
up and should be 2nd string backing up the starters. His past injuries before
coming back to Utah have caught up with him; plus he is over his prime. I like
other pieces but not there D and outside shooting. Start CJ and let's see if we
can get his confidence back. Wouldn't hurt folks; either that or Bell.
Hmmm...Wish we still had Korver? Go Jazz
Corbin needs to start CJ. He's a legit 2 guard that can do great things. He's in
a slump now but his good moments outweigh the bad.
