Jerry might as well be coaching this team. Corbin acts just like him. Why is
Bell playing that many minutes? Why is Watson taking so many shots? Why is
Millsap even on the team?
Even if Deron was here, they would've lost this one...Not quite sure if
they'll be making those playoffs...the only thing you can count on is that Memphis and Pheonix do worse than the Jazz by 2 games.Even if they
do, it's an early exit...
CJ plays only 25 minutes? Corbin wake up dude!! Hayward and Bell play 48
minutes combined?Corbin needs to go too
so begins the post-Deron age... happy Utah? time to aim for a nice lottery pick!
AK is playing pretty well. CJ did not have a good shooting night but did get to
the foul line. Millsap played well (18/9). Watson Bell and Hayward
were highly inefficient. This one was lost before it happened. Things are not going to get better from here. Harris will
need time to learn the offense and he has NEVER been an efficient shooter.
Usually he is about 42% on 2s and 30% on 3s. I do not know about picks and
defense. Here are some thoughts. There is a big difference between
dealing with a Russian Owner/Avery Johnson and dealing with Millers/Corbin. DWill got the shaft. DWill pushed the Jazz to become a contender. I
appreciated that. However, he never signaled he would stay. AK on
the other hand openly told Greg he wanted to stay and would deal. Normally AK would have been traded not DWill. DWill can be
replaced (every player can) but it will take time.Greg is not going
to pay lux tax for a lotto team. He is going to get players who will win for
reasonable. It became much more of a business when Sloan left.
nice game miles
Time to get use to these types of outcomes... A big congratulations to Jazz
Management!Time to rebuild from the top on down to the water boys.
@CJ MilesCJ was 2/9 and what...1/4 from the three. I wouldn't have
played him more than 25 with that.I like CJ, but he needs to shoot a
higher percentage than that especially since they count on his shooting so much
when he is in. He isn't strong on defense, so if he doesn't have his shot going,
frankly, hes a liability. When its going, keep feeding him, but if
he is off, we can't keep going to him can we?
miles 25 minutes shoots 2/9,come on cj chuck up some more bricks
DWill produced 21 points and 10 assists for his 15 mill. Harris is
15/8 for 8 mill. Use 7 mill to get a wing?AJ is 17/9 for
13 millMillsap is 17/8 for 8 millCJ is 12/3 for 3.7AK is 12/6
for 18Bell is 8/3 for 3Memo is 5/2 for 10The rest don't
matter. Trading DWill made no sense unless Greg was certain DWill
was leaving. Even then he could have waited but paying 8-9 mill in lux tax also
made no sense. It made a lot more sense to move AK. DWill never
communicated back he would stay if the Jazz would build around him. AK said plainly he wanted to stay. Millers ponied up all they
could for this poorly designed team. That left no picks to build with. However,
they did have AK and Memo's salaries to work with over the next 2 years. The Jazz could have fixed this team with a couple of wings who could
shoot and some one like Favors without dumping DWill. Now they have
Favors and picks. They will replace DWill eventually.
We played a great team tonight that is stacked with talent. I thought we did a
goog job in the first half by getting the lead and hanging in there. The 3 point
game is killing the Jazz along with the lack of size and rebounding in the
middle. I've maintained that the Jazz need a another quality big man to go with
Jefferson as much or more as the need a good three-point bomber. I feel the Jazz
did as well as they could by getting Favors. This is the type of guy the Jazz
have needed. Yes,he's only a rookie ,but still right now I think he's better
than Elson or Fess which isn't saying much. But the potential is there for the
Jazz to have a great inside game in the near future.Big Al,finally some help is
arriving. Great game by Big Al,by the way.i still believe in this team and their
chances of jelling together to get a low seed playoff spot.
I though AK & Bell's return was supposed to help, they're our best
defenders! They wouldn't have won this game with MJ, never mind
DWill. This is going to be painful, but necessary. DW was good enough to keep
us a fringe 6-8 seed, which is the worst thing you can be. We're
worse today than yesterday, tho closer to a title, albeit still light-years to
go. Only Isiah has won titles in the modern era as a pure PG who also lead his
team in scoring. This had to happen, but it hurts. Imagine a
backcourt of DW, Matthews & Maynor.KOC needs to hit homers with
these upcoming picks, he's been erratic at best at drafting. Might be time to
cut bait on Hayward too.
I can't believe CJ, Hayward and Bell could shoot so poorly, when they just had a
whole week to get in the gym and practice. Unbelievable. I hope some more
trades are in the works, I guess we won't have too long to wait to see.Rumors are Minn. is interested in Bell, I for one would love to see him moved.
Elington (NC product) would be a good pick up, he can shoot, I don't know how
the rest of his game is though.
Ok,so the Nets definitely get the better of the deal in the short term, but as
far as pure potential, the Jazz get the better of the deal. With two players who
could jell fairly quick and with two high draft choices, the Jazz could come out
smelling like a rose with this trade. With D-Will most likely leaving anyway, the
Jazz did good. I like the fact that Favors should help this team inside
immediately. This JAZZ Team has been way too soft inside, and we needed a
bruiser/rebounder really bad.
Miles: You need to have a talk with your boy CJ and tell him he needs to step up
and realize he needs to take more of a leadership role on this team.
Houdini.....16 points in 25 minutes.....Better than your boys Hayward, Bell and
Watson could muster in 75 minutes.......CJ 12 free throws....Wasn't
it you Houdini who commented that CJ doesn't go to the basket? Strange that he
would shoot 12 free throws while being fouled at half court!!
First of all I LOVE the trade. WIlliams was inevitably leaving and we got the
most out of it and avoided what Lebron did AND what the Nuggets went through.Question for you all. I think Derrick Favors is VERY promising. I know
potential can be a scary word, but hes 19 hes 6 10' 260 and he is as athletic as
stoudemire. He hasn't had stellar numbers this year, but he hasn't had many
minutes either. My question is, if you were Derrick Favors, and this
was your first year, and as early as September of your first year in the league
there were already talks of trading you, don't you think that would affect your
play?Just saying, don't you think that now he knows he has a home
and he wont be dumped immediately he can get a bit more commited. Maybe im way
off. tell me your thoughts
I was frustrated with the way Corbin coached tonight, Miles is right, it may as
well have been Sloan on the bench the way he used his players. I hope that
doesnt' continue, he needs to make changes and do some things a little
different. I don't know why he doesn't start CJ at the 2, that is where he is
Like they were winning before this trade happened anyways. Come back to reality.
You think with Deron they would have beat the Mavs? Kind of insulting to a great
Dallas team. The Mav's are so well balanced. Finally after all the years of
trades Dallas is looking dang tough. I will stop baggin on Williams.
It is the past.
No Brewer, no Boozer, no Korver, no Matthews, no DWill, NO CHANCE!!Nice going, Jazz. All Deron wanted was for management to put together a team
that could be competetive with the Lakers, Spurs, Celtics. All he wanted was to
bring a championship to the Jazz. The Jazz responded with bringing in Bell and
Elson and using a Lottery Pick on Hayward. They kept AK,Fes, Okur and Price. The
Jazz has no bench and the coach acted like a child and quit! Harris
and Favors haven't managed more than 17 wins this year, yet people are happy to
see DWill, the heart and soul of the team, go.Nice blowout loss
tonight. Get used to it.
The MN rumor was Bell for Flynn. Further, most of the players who are being
traded did not play tonight so I suspect Bell is not going anywhere. There is a lot of trade interest in AJ, Millsap and Favors. That is the new
core of the team and I do not think the Jazz are going to trade any of them. KOC said he is not moving Favors. He did say he is discussing more
deals. I am not sure what the Miller financial situation is like but
it makes sense to try to mover under the lux tax.Harris and Watson
can't shoot so the Jazz REALLY need a wing who can shoot to go with them. If KOC
does not fix that problem by the deadline, this year is toast. If
Hayward is not going to shoot then they need to cross train him as a PG.I view this process as one that will take the rest of this year and
next. The Jazz could trade Harris for a shooting wing? Hayward would
have to cross train real fast. I do not think Harris is the answer
at PG or much better than Watson.
I'd like to see the Jazz trade with the Pacers and get Granger. They are in Indy
tommorow and I've heard Granger could be had.I had heard the rumor with
Minn. was with Flynn but I'm not interested in him and if Minn. was interested
in Bell, I thought we could go for some outside shooting. I wouldn't care who it
was if they could shoot.
Right now I'd love to see the Jazz get Jan Vesely, in the draft. 6'11, long,
athletic 3 man.
Corbin is like SLoan II. 58 percent field goals, 10 3s. 5 in the 2nd quarter
to turn the game around. I was laughed at wanting Peja, gee did not look too
bad tonight did he?You need shooters and athletic, long wings to
win. I will always be a Deron fan. However, for 3 years I have ripped O
Connor. At least he was proactive and made a move and get the #3 pick in the
country who will help else in an area lacking.21st century
basketball is long, defending, quick deers. Favors is a comer, he did average
7.5 points and 5.5 boards in just 19 minutes and he is 6-10.Harris
is good enough to win with, he is having a career year in assists. He lifetime
averages about 15 ppg. He would have been a World Champion if Dirk did not miss
those foul shots in the Nba finals vs Miami. He is not a great
shooter. He will not drill 3s and bail Utah out of possessions. It will mean
more touches for others. He is a good, sensitive kid and we need to welcome him
here. He will feel pressure
3q good basketball and poor game management in last Q. Why the world Millsap and
Al playing together. Hayward need D League experience he was running like
headless (bad comparison) chicken disrupting play. He gets points but with what
cost.Main reason Jazz loss is defense. Millsap got burned many times which is
something new... and so on . If it is post Sloan era so be it bring
something new mainly game time management.
One thing I haven't seen people mention much is the AWESOME inside presence
Favors will provide on defense. He is strong defender and rebounder. Lets hope
he continues developing that offensive game.
Starting CJ has merit. On the other hand CJ is not as good as Bell
on defense when Bell is healthy. Further, CJ is hot and cold on shooting. I think Corbin needs to play the SG spot by ear every night. He wanted to see if Bell was really back and left him in. CJ was not hot
tonight so why not leave Bell in. Bell tends to not shoot much unless he is
shooting well. The wings are a major problem for the Jazz. AK has it together and is playing well right now. If DWill had added 22 points
tonight it would have been a lot closer. Lets see how Harris plays.
He had one really good year with DAL. If he can get back to that form he is
almost as good as DWill. If not then his is above average.
KOC is still dealing. Lets see what tomorrow brings. The Jazz are
almost as unsettled as they were when Boozer, Korver and Mathews left. However, I really like the core of AJ, Millsap and Favors. Sort out the wings
and PG and the Jazz could be better than ever.
I espected Corbin to come back after the all star break and initiate some
changes and what he did was come back and look even more like Sloan. I hope that
is short lived.
I agree that we can not have AL and Paul starting together. I also agree that
Bell is not playing well enough to be starting. I don't think that CJ is fast
enough to be a 2 but he needs to be. The reason AK is still here is that he
helps the team and next year you only have to pay him 3 mil. I think People love
to use hind sight and call them selves experts. We need to look to the future
and trust that the Jazz are going to make it okay. Corbin has not had enough
time to fully use his system but he already has said he loves Jerry's style.
I don't want to jump on board the bandwagon and call Corbin a Jerry clone, but
this quote sounded familiar: "They came out and made some shots against us
and (it) seemed like we felt sorry for ourselves and dropped our head a little
bit". Problem is, the quote is true and has been of this team for a while.
I personally like the trade and welcome the change. Devin Harris
isn't the same type of PG, but some of his strengths are also Deron's
weaknesses. Like defense. Maybe this will help some of the pick and roll
defensive problems. They are now without a go to guy, which is kind of scary.
Now if Corbin is going to be a Jerry clone, i'm hoping for the type
of team effort they showed the year Stock retired. One more thought,
this is the perfect time to take Karl Malone up on that offer to help out the
organization. Favors could be a monster. Rumor has it that he has a strong work
ethic, lets get Karl in to hone that work ethic.
Utah is not MN. You can clearly see a plan. The Jazz now have a formidable front
court. AJ busted out and Millsap did his usual 18/8. Favors is a
welcome addition. Next they will work on the wings. AK played well
tonight and should do better since DWill tended to not get him the ball. AK can
also play point forward and help Harris.CJ is pretty much the player
he is going to be but worth 3.7 mill. Hayward needs to shoot and
that might develop over the summer. He deserves another year. Bell
may get back on track. A shooting SG is the biggest priority
followed by improved defense. With AK and Okur salary reductions next
year, the Jazz can afford a much better bench. An extra 15 mill or
so buys a lot of bench.
The Jazz aren't a good team with or without D-Will. The last 25 games have been
disaster and the trend shows no sign of changing. They had no hope to
beat Dallas tonight. None.Remember Carlos Boozer? With Booze, the
team had a chance to beat any team. Not now.Weird that details about
the first round picks being protected or not were not made public. The real question for Jazz fans: Will NJ be much better with DWill? Those
lottery picks better pan out big time and even if they do, it will be four years
away. So, is favors special? Hope so.
I think Harris and Favors are great addition to the team despite losing D-Will,
for now we can still compete and finish at least the 6th seed..Favors can help
the frontline which the team is having a problem because Memo has been in and
out coz of injuries..Harris is not a bad point guard, he is a pesky defender and
can defend more compare to D-Will..now that our frontline is much stronger than
before, no offense to Bell but he has to score but up to now he is
struggling, big time!..if we can get another shooting guard that can help the
team spread the floor, the Jazz will be complete when that happens, right now
that is a big hole in the team roster
I hope the NJ lottery pick isnt protected...we could deal harris for a
wing...and grab Kyrie Irving at the draft as the starting PG...why not trade
Harris and CJ for Tony Allen and OJ Mayo and probably a second round pick or
two....Tony Allen gives you a good solid defender...if it went well...we could
have a starting lineup of...Ante Tomic Al Jeff AK Mayo Irving...backed up by
Favors Millsap Hayward Bell Watson...looks pretty solid to me...if we couldnt
deal harris...we may have a shot at harrison barnes...as long as we the pick is
not protected and is in the top 5...the trade would be a steal...
This is a D League team. What I would say at this point is that over the years,
other than Stockton and Malone who basically started and finished their play
with the Jazz, is that this franchise has been nothing but a training camp for
players, and really, none of these players going through the revolving door in
Utah have been premier players, integral to any other team's championship. And
in the case of Deron, I guarantee you, he will never be a part of any
championship unless he goes to a Miami, Los Angeles, or a Boston. The rest of
these teams are just practice and foiles to what this league is all about....the
major markets, i.e. New York, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Unless the
oweners get some major concessions from the NBA Players Association, this
practice will continue...have gun will travel.
Kakashi,Tomic is unproven in NBA,Irving is a good prospect, but by the time those
two produced,AK would be 35 and done,I like your enthusiasm though,I still think
we have a good core group, just need to add a dependable player at the 2
spot, don`t need an all-star,a Wes Matthews type
3 starting power forwards is silly. Having AJ playing out of position everynight
hasn't helped. Milsap should have been the 6th man all season...AJ would have
developed the picknroll offense just like boozer, he has a more consistant
jumper then the booz and more range on his jump hook..the only thing boozer did
better is finsih with his left hand, but AJ finishes much stronger and it's nice
not to have to watch weak layups getting swatted 10 times a game...Bringing in
Favors is a great move..but someone has to go...we can't stunt his development
by burying him on the bench...sorry milsap but you are the odd man out...CJ and
Milsap for Mathews!
No surprise Williams left. If he stayed he would always be blamed for forcing
Sloan out, true or not. No suprise the Jazz loss to the Mavs. Dallas is
undefeated against the top teams in the league (minus Chicago) when they are
healthy.I think it's time the Jazz finally change their mascot name. The
only reason they kept it "Jazz" was because the owners did not think
the team would last vey long in Utah. Well they have, and it's time to change to
something that actually makes sense to the state of Utah.
Anonymous Infinity: You are always so negative, this team is better than you
give them credit for and they are putting some good pieces together. They will
end up OK.I hope some kind of trade goes down today and that we can pick
up some outside shooting, CJ, Bell and AK are so inconsistent it's
frustrating. In the draft I'd like to see us get Barnes, Jones (Kentucky)
or Vesely. I don't see the Jones at Baylor being available. There is going
to be an adjustment period and that may cause us to miss the playoffs. If that
happens we will have two lottery picks as we will keep our own,(it is lottery
This game was lost on inefficiency in the wing shooting, defense and a weak
bench. Those are the primary current weaknesses of the Jazz as a
team. They can only be fixed by more trades and a reallocation of salaries. I am not sure the Jazz have to have a max salary PG. They do have to
have a PG who can and will run the offense the way it has to run. I
am not convinced that is Harris. But we will see how he runs picks and the
team. They have to have wings who can shoot. That is Sloan's fault as
much as anyone's. The defense has to improve and that also is
somewhat a carry over problem. When the Jazz lost MO they got DWill.
Both could shoot. Now they are replacing DWill. That may take a couple of
years. The Jazz have not had a great D for years.
As Yahoo sport reported initially Nets called Jazz about AK. Jazz kept Ak and
deal Deron. After this season AK heads to Nets so NBA will have 2 Jazz
team in East Bulls (korver Brewer Boozer)and Nets (Deron Ak).
Glad to see Al Jefferson get a technical foul last night. It's about time he
showed an emotion other than whiney. Seriously, he showed some fire
last night. I love it.
Looks like people are back to Sloan bashing? You ran an All-Star point guard out
because he argued with the coach, who used to get bashed all the time on these
blogs? Now people are complaining that Corbin is just like Sloan in a bad way???
Question at 68 years old, how long did you thin Sloan was going to stay????
HA!!! This is just the beginning Jazz fans. Get used to losing - ALOT - just
like Cleveland. Utah has nothing now but at least sports fans can now spend more
time watching Spring college football games.
I'm copying & pasting this commernt from OHPLEASE:*****"No Brewer, no Boozer, no Korver, no Matthews, no DWill, NO CHANCE!!"Nice going, Jazz. All Deron wanted was for management to put
together a team that could be competetive with the Lakers, Spurs, Celtics. All
he wanted was to bring a championship to the Jazz. The Jazz responded with
bringing in Bell and Elson and using a Lottery Pick on Hayward. They kept
AK,Fes, Okur and Price. The Jazz has no bench and the coach acted like a child
and quit! "Harris and Favors haven't managed more than 17 wins
this year, yet people are happy to see DWill, the heart and soul of the team,
go."Nice blowout loss tonight. Get used to it."*****That's the best comment made all week. I'm printing it out and
putting it in my Jazzfan album, soon to be replacec by a new OKC fan album. Can
you imagine if OKC traded Kevin Durant because he might not sign? Crazy.
For all of you missing our former players, they were the same former players
toyed with and laughed at by the Lakers and Spurs in the playoffs. Nowhere near
good enough to win a title. Had to blow it up and start over. Should've done
more than they did.If Favors turns out to be 90-95% of Dwight Howard
like many project, it will be "DWill who, Jerry what" around here.
Patience. DWill will attract as many free agents to NJ as he did to Utah.
@Houdinii agree...they should have tried to trade AK + a player for
either Gerald Wallace and/or Stephen Jackson(salary wise it made sense) before
they traded deron...since MJ wanted to free up cap space...if they did
that...Deron might have stayed...because its definitely an improvement...from
what we have here...the problem is...we'll get tied with the contracts of Gerald
Wallace and or Stephen Jackson...we also need a C...since Al Jeff is effective
if he is at Power Forward...and Millsap...as good as he is...i think he should
have embraced the role of the 6th Starter...6th man with starter minutes...just
like Manu...and the coming of Ante Tomic(i know he isnt proven and would
certainly be a weak defender) we would get a C that could complement Al's
game...and we are set for next year...well...the trades are done now...all we
can do is be optimistic about it and hope...
