"A shutdown could send our fragile economy back into a recession, and mean
no Social Security checks for seniors, less funding for border security and no
paychecks for our troops," Reid said.In fact, Social Security
checks for current beneficiaries would go out as scheduled. Troop pay would be
unaffected, as would a host of other government operations, like border
protection, law enforcement, air traffic control and food inspection. So Reid lied for political gain. AgainReid doesn't want any cuts,
he doesn't want to address the fiscal crisis, he just wants to score politcial
points. What a small man.
If Reid truly wants to avoid a showdown perhaps he should quit grandstanding and
work out an agreement with the Republicans. Our country is free
falling into bankruptcy and its time the Republicans take a stand and stick with
it.The Democrats are out of touch with the voters and more of them
are going down in the next election.
I would think a smart move for a bill to avert shutdown would also have reduced
spending limit. Then again what would it hurt if government did shut down for a
short term as the budget is debated? That's the whole reason for the budget
