This weekend begins a month and a half of heaven for bball fans! HS tourneys
through the first two weeks of the ncaa tournament...can't wait! This year,
I think 5A, 3A, and 2A are pretty solid locks. Lone Peak, Wasatch, and South
Sevier are all going to be heavy favorites. 4A is completely up in the air. My
team, Timpview, I've seen play numerous times and I still don't buy their #1
ranking, I think they could be in for some trouble. Highland, and Payson top the
list of teams that will knock off my Thunderbirds. The best tourney of all will
be 1A! Today I called to get a room in Richfield and they were all completely
booked. I have to stay in Salina now. One hotel said that a school booked their
entire hotel! Anyways, Wasatch Academy would be an easy favorite if it weren't
for the tough road they will have to go through. If teams were inserted right
now, they'd have to play Milford, Monticello, Bryce Valley, Liahona in that
order...that's a tough road no matter how good you are. It's gonna be fun!
Did I see where Bingham is ranked ahead of West Jordan. Like I've supposed all
along, there is Miner alumni creating these 'comment' collums.I can
say that if Bingham should win, they would be in the drivers seat to claim the
school's seventh straight Region III championship. With the likes of Riverton
and West Jordan lurking around, that is quite a feat. The last team
to win Region III, outside of Bingham, were the 03-04 Hunter Wolverines, who
eventually went on to claim the 5A title that same year.
Actually, Hunter was not in the same region as West Jordan and Bingham in 03-04.
I know I'm a homer but did you realize that the brand new high school, Herriman
High, has been playing with some of top teams in 5A? They barely lost to West
Jordan (4pts and 5pts), Riverton (final score was 10 but tied game with 3
minutes to go and FT's in the end), played with Bingham both times (11 pts and
14 pt loss although it was played closer).
After looking at the 1a bracket I've got Liahona playing Tabiona and Wasatch
Academy playing Monticello in the Semis. It's sad all the top region 20 teams
are fed right into the top three teams in the state (Liahona, WA, and
Monticello) so early. From there Liahona will cruise on while I think its a toss
up between WA and Monticello. Then anything can happen in the championship
especially with all the talent these two teams will have on the court. By then
its all about who steps up. The differences I could see are Liahona getting beat
by region 20 #1 in the quarters, and the crapshoot for the other spot in the top
half could go to either the region 19 #2, I bet whitehorse, ICS, or 16 #2, I
predicted Tabiona. Good luck to everyone I can't wait to see.
Hunter did lay waste to that whole Region 2 that year. They beat Bingham, West
Jordan and Brighton that year in the tourney!
Taby isnot that Good
smallballfan: south sevier is good, but you can't say they are the heavy
favorite. San juan proved they can be beat last week and South Summit is capable
of beating them too. This is 2A basketball any team can beat any
other team on any given night.South Sevier does have the easiest
road to the championship in my opinion.Number 2, 3, and 4 are all on
the same side of the bracket.
Oh and in the six games that S. Sevier has played against ranked teams (3-5),
they haven't played #2 South Summit, they have a score differential of 68 to 52.
Averaging 16 point wins against ranked teams even with the 12 point loss against
San Juan is pretty good I think. Not to mention they beat San Juan by more than
twenty earlier in the season. I understand that they haven't played South Summit
yet, but they won't play S. Summit unless they both go to the Championship. I'm
pretty sure its fair to say they are a heavy favorite. Its not like they are
saying that S. Sevier is going to win without question!
S.Summit should be the favorite coming into the tourney as they were coming into
the season. They are full of experienced seniors and are a very good team. S.
Sevier's work throughout the season has been a very pleasant surprise and earned
them the right to be a favorite. They to are a very good team. I hope it does
come down to those two teams in the final but you never know. S. Summit does
have to play and prove they can beat all the teams S.Sevier has already beaten
this year but I think they are very capable of doing that. Go Rams!!!
What about North Summit?
N. Summit is a scary team for S. Sevier to face if they can beat Kanab and N.
Summit beats Beaver. I haven't seen them but did notice they gave S. Summit all
they could handle there at home. Thay little guard you have can really light it
up! Again haven't seen just read.
ummm, North Summit lost to Maeser by 20...enough said
I would have said a week ago that S. Sevier is a heavy favorite but considering
they got beat double digits by San Juan and will have to play San Juan or play
someone that is able to beat San Juan (like the senior laden defending
champions), I would say they are a slight favorite to favorite.
Yeah, those senior laden defending champions lost to Gunnison, oh yeah, so did
San Juan. If you knew anything about that S. Sevier San Juan game I don't think
it would tip the scales on who your favorite is. South Summit hasn't had any 2A
competition this year. S. Sevier has played all of the other ranked teams
(excepting S. Summit) and in those six games S. Sevier has an average score
differential of 16 points, including the last San Juan game. S. Sevier is 20-1.
Any team is beatable any night, one game doesn't change how good a team is! They
are still the best in 2A, the schedule, stats and record shows that!
pingdew, congratulations on your non-blowout losses, sure sounds like Herriman
is a powerhouse in the making, perhaps in a few years they can expect to lose by
even less and maybe pick up a w.
Some teams just have the feel of destiny around them. The SS Rams are one of
those teams this year. They are a ragtag, scrappy group coached by the best
coach in the state. Bar None!
South Sevier is a team that normally has a lot confidence going into state BB
tournaments. There are some schools that just have the prowess to get things
done. San Juan and Millard are that way in football.San Juan has
recently had difficulty getting to the Great 8. I hope this year, a new coach
and a pretty good team, they will be able to get playing in the championship
bracket on Friday and Saturday. Go Broncos!!!
I think San Juan has a pretty good team this year, but they are also in the
midst of tough teams going in to the quarter finals, they are going to have to
be playing their A game to advance!
