Not matching Mathews' offer from Portland sure sticks out as a dumb move now
doesn't it? Now we have too many new players at the same time that don't know
the system that are ok to good but no one that is very good to great. We now see
were going cheap will get you. Chess anyone?
I'm no professional, but here's my wish list.1) Interior defense. AJ
doesn't have to play Center 30 minutes a game. Get Fes in there--without him,
we have little interior defense.2) Rebounding. Having some interior
defense will help with rebounding. Is there another way to improve
rebounding?3) Perimeter defense. Having a Fes in the middle will help our
perimeter not have to sag so much. We sure leave a lot of guys open outside.4) Improve consistency for role players, especially offense. Bell, Miles,
AK--we need you every night, not just once in awhile.5) More Evans and
less Hayward/Bell/Miles.6) A little more enthusiasm from Sloan will go a
long way with such a young team.
I'm sick of this Matthews comments. Even he stayed at Utah he never will be
player right now. Portland is SG team. Utah is PF team . Of course Matt shoot
some trees some defense that's all, Sloan won't allow freelance like in
Portland. Matt doesn't pass almost catch and shoot guy become.OhYea if it
was your money you'll understand. Yo thinking yo only smart one huh...
I'm frustrated with CJ's inconsistency shooting but I'm even more frustrated
with his nonchalant, lackluster energy level on both offense and especially
defense. His body language is terrible more than half the time.Fes does
need to play more, I can't believe Sloan can't realize how much of a positive
impact Fes's presence in the paint has on the games.I've said this many
times before, Sloan needs to play Fes like he did Eaton, he needs to not worry
about Fes on the offensive end and just let him impact the game on the defensive
end.Good defense energizes everyone and leads to fast break and early
Captain it is on dead ears. Fes will be gone after the season being released or
not resigned because Jerry will never warm to him.People want to
blow these losses off still a majority. What we are missing ia a
perspective. The Jazz had great offense couple times and got by on
defense. However this is not just a slump. The Jazz have lost 9
out of 12 and frankly showed signs of this before the streak started.
What's wrong with the Jazz?Big Al holds the ball too long and takes
too many long jumpers. He messes up the offense too often.DWill is
still making too many turnovers. He needs to push the ball up the court more
quickly but then he must not gamble as much as he has been doing ever since he
joined the team. There is no need to make fancy passes. Just throwing a hard
pass doesn't make it good. Too many Jazz players are settling for
jumpers rather than driving to the hoop. Going to the basket gets others in
foul trouble, which lightens the load. One of the best ways to cool down hot
shooting opponents is to make them play defense and get them in foul trouble.
The Jazz are not doing that enough. The Oklahoma City loss did not
trouble me as much as some of the others because they were hot as pistols from
the outside. When the Jazz were really good, the only way to beat them was to
shoot a high percentage from outside. If you can keep the opponent shooting
outside, you'll win most of your games.
Looks like another first or second round exit coming for the Jazz. The question
has to be will the retain D. Will when his contract is up? My bet right now is
no. That will mean a complete rebuild. Some think he'll stay if after the new
agreement is done, the Jazz can pay him the most money. I don't think that is
the case. D. Will wants a championship and I don't think the Jazz are doing
enough to move towards one.
I'm tired of hearing these Al Jefferson needs to adjust to the offense excuses
because that's all they are. He's a professional athlete no reason for him to
not learn the offense by now. Besides the Jazz have changed the offense to cater
to him anyways. Anyone else notice the pick and roll or complete absence of it
in the offense this year? Has Jerry Sloan gone crazy? The Jazz need to drop the
excuses and start cracking skulls already.
Win a game or 2.. That is about it, What else you expact them to win?
Al holds the ball until he is double/triple teamed. He is better going to the
right with one defendent than two. Even then, what is his shooting percentage
when he does that? Here is my stats per minute of Jazz players301
Millsap295 Jefferson245 Elson192 Watson183 Kirilenko157 Williams98 Hayward79 Price56 Bell7 MilesThis was 1/27/11 stats. It drives me nuts watching Williams walk down
the floor and see the rest of the team stand around waiting for everyone to be
in place. If that is Sloan's offense, that's the #1 reason he has never been
coach of the year.Seems like the top three are the only ones earning their
keep. The rest have the potential to produce. Those not listed don't have
enough minutes to work up a sweat.
All you Fes lovers are hilarious....Fes was a free agent over the summer, could
have been had for the Minimum...but 30 teams didn't want him!....and you blame
Sloan for no playing him...he is lucky to be in the league...he is exactly what
he is...a 5 to 10 min a night stop gap..anything more and gets completely
lost...Al is a low post, back to the basket guy, the same type of player you
experts have been saying for years we need. Yes the offense stop when he gets
the ball, is that his fault???? Nobody is coming to his side of the court for
inside out play or getting themselves in position to recieve the ball...next
game watch, Al holds the ball looking for a cutter, a spot up guy or someone to
work repositon with....NOBODY moves...
RE Stats,"Shorty Millsap" at the top,no surprize, but the great and
wonderous miles at the bottom ? what`s up wit dat?
We are the only team in the league that has only one shooting guard. Having guys
play out of position to help fill the void left by mathews, Brewer and Korver
just is not working. Price is not the answer, Hayward cant play the 2 he is to
big at 6'9, we are stacked at the 3, I expect the Jazz to make a move before
trade deadline to either shed salary or improve the teams depth. last year the
Jazz surprised everyone by trading Maynor and Brewer. I cant see the Jazz
sitting tight with this group, no way we can beat any elite team in the West
with this roster in a seven game series. Looking forward to the next month, no
question some changes will be made.
CJ is terrible in Jerry's system. He needs to go. Please trade him by the
deadline. I can't stand watching him play in Utah where there are no screens
set to get him open, no plays ran for him. Yet Jerry runs some plays for AK who
can't even shoot. Sorry but in today's game, running an offense for
two players while the other 3 stand around is not going to win many games.
Teams that are winning are doing it with more than two guys offensively. Time
for CJ to go or for Jerry to go. The Jazz waste talent....See MatthewsJerry you have lost 9 of the last 12, don't you think it's time for a change?
Any other coach with the talent you have would have been fired by now!
miles is as much a 2 as a 3,really not much difference,it`s more a match-up
thing, when miles is in with AK,Millsap and Jeff, miles is at the 2 spot,on most
nights there is little or no difference between a sg and sf
miles,we finally agree on something, and the sooner cj goes the better, especially
for my Jazz,he`s worthless, lazy, out of shape and has taken 6 years to develope
into a below average, borderline role player, lets give Fes 6 years to develope
I think Fesenko has been the answer since he came here. He should be starting,
then let the chips fall where they may. Okur is too slow and I thought Elson
would be better. I guess management will never be held accountable or even
queried about this hoops mess by the SLC media. We may not make the
playoffs....If that happens Wiiliams bolts and hopefully Sloan walks away..
What's wrong with the Jazz? They don't have the right players in the right
system. Pretty simple really. Identify their strenghts and try to take
advantage of it. either the coaches aren't able to identify those strengths and
take advantage of them, the players aren't as good as players on other teams, or
the coaches are trying to run a specific system with the wrong players. The Jazz will continue to be good, but not great, because they aren't willing
to change. That inability is webbed throughout the organization.
I'm frustrated with CJ and because he doesn't play with fire, emotion, and
energy, sometime I think it would be good to trade him, BUT that depends on who
they can get for him, CJ does have alot of talent and so it would depend on who
KOC could get in a trade that would make trading him a good move.I know
I'm not alone in seeing Fes's talents, Sloan has had a problem with Fes ever
since he got here, Fes's goof ball, jokester attitude has rubbed Sloan wrong and
he won't give Fes the Playing time he needs to develop. Fes's offense is far
from polished but it could develop if he was coached right. If the Jazz have no
intention of resigning Fes they need to trade him and get something for him.Elson isn't the answer and neither is Big Al or Memo, so KOC needs to make
some trades and bring in some players that can compete.
Houdini.....I didn't say that CJ was lazy and an underacheiver. I said as long
as Jerry runs his old, disconnected system, CJ is terrible in Utah. I want him
traded to a team that will use his talents and run him off screens.Jerry could do so by running the high pick and roll while bell and he
interchange on the wing with Millsap setting a back screen away from the ball.
Why have three buys standing around when they could be screening each other?
Makes no sense to me
Dwill will be gone in a few years, CJ, AK, Okur and Elson need to go! we need
some "a list" players. This Utah franchise needs to go up
on the list, for year has been the same mediocre team, NOT GOOD OR BAD. just in
the middle and we still paying for the tickets. In regular life, if
we don't work and meet job requirements we are out, for the Jazz they are not
playing good, what about firing them! no money!
Name a better player than CJ that the Jazz can sign for under 4 million?
The Jazz system works best when cutters are a-cuttin,it`s not designed for a
ball-hoggin gloryhog like a colby...or a cj miles
Psychologically, the Jazz are an interesting group. With them success breeds
success, if they hit their first few inside shots that gives them the confidence
to hit their outside shots. So ... how do the Jazz fix their
problems.1. Push the ball up court.2. The first 3 shots
need to be taken in or near the paint.3. Whenever a shot goes up
someone needs to make a hard cut to the basket.4. Screen, screen,
screen for your teammates.5. On offense move, move, move; don't just
stand around and watch your teammate shoot.6. The Jazz also need a
consistent Dead Eyed shooter at the 3 point line. The Jazz win far
more games when CJ is hitting his outside shots but lose whenever he goes into a
slump and disappears. When that happens, opposing teams know that all they have
to do is clog the paint and they'll more than likely win the game. This year, the Jazz are in real danger of not making the playoffs.
Right now, the Jazz are just not very good and other teams have figured it out.
D-Will is very good but he is always running a "Chinese Fire Drill".
You can't teach height and Fesenko has it. You coach him and see what you can
do with him. You don't "ball him out" with every small mistake. If
he can't hack it, then you "can" him. He is a "puppy" who
needs a little patience. Kirilenko is "over the hill". Okur is
"damaged goods". D-Will is "already packin'". So, what is
Sloan will right the ship as far as losing more than half the games is
concerned. Jazz will go to the playoffs.Question is will he start
using the Uki, quit this using Williams as a shooting guard, bench Miles until
he starts playing consistently, go back to using 2 teams as he did early in the
season, when all the talk about the second unit was going on?This is
required to win all the marbles.
we fans want to win but complained about boozer who is a great player. i know he
was hurt alot. i don't think big al is the problem. we don't have the chemistry
or something. we need shooters. lets see korver led the nba in 3 pt % last year.
did we even try to keep him? i think we started down hill when we let brewer go.
good defender good finisher, strong, young. we had some chemistry. then last
year we imploded. it looked bright at the first of the year, now we could be
headed to the lottery. its painful for me to watch
We need some help, we need some athletes, we need some defense, we need some
rebounding, we need a lot of things to get over the hump. The Jazz have assets
to make some moves, I hope they do, we NEED to improve this roster.
right now...the jazz is a mediocre team...they really need a C...and a SG...the
pick and roll...seems to be gone with Al Jeff...Al Jeff is a typical back to the
basket guy..who would rather have the ball thrown to him...than have rotations
set him up for a clean jumper...ideally...on sloan's offensive rotations...the
player that comes to mind that can abuse it...is Dirk...he has range...and could
finish...though not much of a defender...but still whenever he touches the
ball...he'll produce...ideally...the SG that best fits us...would be ray allen,
manu ginobili or Rip Hamilton...guys that could go off the screen and shoot
it...guys who make moving without the ball a trademark...i cant compare this
team...to the team we had with stockton and malone...they are of different
eras...but stockton never averaged 20 pts a game...they make up for it for
strong defensive play...and good court vision...finding the open man to
score...i respect sloan a lot...but its now time to change..not just the
coach...a little over everywhere...
What about 3 point shots. Someone mentioned having one player that can make
them. The Jazz got Korver who was a mess. I haven't studied the losses, but I
have the feeling that like OK, the Jazz lost on 3's. It showed on the reaction
of our players when at least three OK players were hitting 3's the Jazz hung
their heads. We need more than one who can get 40%+ 3's. THEN have Sloan let
them shoot. Finally, the Jazz have a problem about getting paint on their
shoes. When they play a game with only a dozen fouls, the problem is lack of
CJ is shooting 41%,only Price is worse, even Hayward and Bell are higher. Here`s
the thing,to get to that 41,CJ will shoot 2/11 one night then 6/9 the next. The
6/9 night proves he CAN shoot, but he isn`t willing to put in the extra effort
and practice time to become consistent.Maybe he would do better for a Mike
D`Antoni team or Hawks team.Don`t say it`s about screens...he misses tons of
wide open looks
@The Great Houdinii agree with you...Miles is a volume shooter in my
opinion...he needs to jack up 20-30 shots a night just to score 20-25 pts...and
i really think the guy doesnt put effort...i mean...5 years and he is still that
mediocre?...its going to be a rough year this year...im thinking the Jazz would
barely make the playoffs..im still hoping for a miracle trade...it would be a
waste if they dont use the TPEs...
Houdini.....When CJ is on the floor with Watson, Hayward,Fes and Price who do
you want shooting the ball? Shooters need to get in a rhythem. Try doing that
in Jerry's system or with AJ being a black hole. You forget, Malone and Boozer
were good passers. Jefferson terrible passer. You are correct that
CJ would shoot the ball much better on a running team instead of a half court
offense. He may get wide open looks but that does not mean he is
getting the ball in some kind of flow.Once again....For under 4
million, who is better that the Jazz can sign?
we need to go get omri caspi , garcia and thompson from the kings .. give them
anything they want besides our big three...
Koc why dont you start bringing in some 10 days .. come on show us you have some
gm skilzzz my man... i can turn the jazz around in 3 years worth of draft picks
and FA signings...free advice .. look at the team we dont have a
heigh/size/athleticism advantage at any position ever... other than jermey evans
.. who you will overpay in FA bc due to the fact that he is the only true
athlete on the team and is able to overachieve and appear to be a better player
then he truly is due to the lack of any other athletic player on the team.. he
is a difference maker and he's not even very good (get it) .. so just immagine
what a skilled player with his athleticism could do for us...why havent you been
aquireing more players of that type for the last 10 years .. then maybe some of
them would be polished by now .. and not just a 1 trick pony like
evans..post/spin off man/catch oop...
i love ya cj .. you take too much crudd from jazz fans... they act like you make
9 million per year.. and expect you to carry our team.. no player making under 4
milion is expected to carry their team... i agree CJ MILES for the money he is a
good player to have ... i have noticed that he seems to play better depending on
who the other 4 on the court are.. i think he just is one of those guys who
needs the other 4 guys to know what they are doing and be involved in running an
offense..he playes better when he is playing with better players ... potentially
a truly great role player who makes the other team pay when you forget about him
and he gets hot... just not a number 1 or 2 option...and not a really dynamic
player either...just solid..so stop blaming him for all our problems jazz fans..
its not his fault koc cant build a team..
@ i-am-i.... You're going to keep hearing about Big Al needing to learn the
system because HE DOES need to learn the system. Sure, he's a professional
athlete, but in numerous interviews, I've heard players and coaches say that he
just isn't that intelligent. Have you seen him in an interview??? He's like our
generations Moses Malone. I don't mean any of this as a knock on him, but rather
as a reason to give him a bit of time to develop in the system. He's got a ton
of talent. He can score and rebound, as he showed for years in Minnesota and as
he's showed us in spurts here. Whether he's worth the wait, I don't know, but
that is the reason people keep saying he needs to learn the system, for what
