No wonder there is so much of "star gazing", parties, restaurants,
bars, gift bags, skiing, shopping, and paparazzi associated with Sundance Film
Festival----anything to avoid actually having to watch the films.
What did you expect Lee? This is from Hollywood? There aren't many things of
value that come from the town.
JNA - Actually, most of these movies don't come from Hollywood. A lot of them
are independent productions that were filmed outside of Hollywood and that are
quite different stylistically from most Hollywood productions. Of course, that
doesn't make them good, as we can see here. A good portion of stuff showing at
Sundance is somewhere between bad and awful, but there's also wonderful stuff
like "The Future" and "Meek's Cutoff." In fact,
most of the best films being made (and there is a lot of incredible stuff still
being produced) aren't coming from Hollywood.
It's nice to have a film review done by somebody who isn't an industry insider.
I'll bet the critics will go nuts over, and throw awards at, the lame movies you
mentioned, whereas normal people like you and I will think they're lame and a
waste of time. I do use the critics evals to guide my movie choices though; I
avoid the ones they like and look for they ones they don't like.
