    LOL

As if getting slaughtered by Texas, Ole Miss, Utah, South Florida, and Oregon State weren't enough?

    You add TCU?

We look forward to a 1-5 start, if you find a way to beat South Florida.

    Looking forward to it!

I have always loved Jerry Jones and this gives me even more reason. I am glad Jerry loves the cougars as well. maybe he is only using them to sell out his stadium though....

I am so relieved I have Heaps to fill the hole in my heart after Jimmer leaves.

More college football is always a good thing!

Despite the departure of Andy Dalton and a handful of other players, TCU will still likely be Top-25 team next year. This would greatly help BYU's SOS as their current 2011 schedule only has three teams which had winning records this year. Make it happen Holmoe!

Considering the last three games played against TCU, I might not be too excited about the matchup but considering the maturation of Heaps we observed over the second half of last season, plus the fact that Andy Dalton will be graduated, I like our chances.

Good to see Chris B's prediction however. Considering his track record with BYU Bball games this year, chalk up a possible TCU game next year as a win for BYU! Woo Hoo!!!

Cougars aren't afraid to play ANYONE, unlike our friends up north.

If I had my way this game with TCU would replace the Utah game - on an annual basis.

At least it points out Patterson saying he would not be playing BYU- at the time he seemed pretty smug about it- I guess things change- wonder if $$$$ had anything to do with his change of heart?

    Re: XelaDave

Don't really think it has much to do with money. Patterson just doesn't want to go to Provo. BYU will be able to schedule good road games, but if they want anyone good to come, they'll have to do a 2 for 1 (2 road games for BYU and 1 home game), see Texas and ND

  • Cougar Claws Lindon, UT
    Jan. 27, 2011 2:37 p.m.

Really though, with the departure of Andy Dalton, Jeremy Kerley, and others on their team, and not to mention how tough they were played this past season the first half with our all-freshman team, I really like our chances against the Frogs if the Cougs play them next season. I actually had BYU as the favorite of they would have come to Provo in 2011 as an in-conference matchup. We'll see what happens though. I thought that BYU had their 2011 schedule figured out. Would perhaps the Idaho St. game get dropped? What ever happened to "TCU never wants to schedule BYU again?"

  • TRUTH Salt Lake City, UT

Did he actually say ...Slaughter by Utah? what was it 16-15 on a botched ref call? and who won the last two years before that....? Oh thats Right!! It was BYU!!

This is a great matchup and I am glad to see it happen...TCU is a class org and it will only help BYU with recruiting in Texas......

Can't wait to celebrate the Days of 47 again when Utah comes to BYU next month...Go Jimmer!

Gary Patterson is just a blowhard saying he wouldn't play BYU again after they announced they were leaving the MWC. Then Patterson and his thugs announce they are going to the Big East (Big Thug) conference. His main man Dalton is gone with some other key components of his all-thug team. I hope BYU doesn't play them again. The horny toads will find out what it's like playing east of the Mississippi. I hope they go 0-12 in 2011 their last MWC year. I have no respect for them and their attitude. They are as bad as Wyoming was back in the 60's and 70's when BYU was maligned about so-called racism at the Y.

See that word "may" in the title? It's an auxilary verb used to express possibility, opportunity or contingency. It doesn't convey anything definitive so, yeah, the author got it right. I disagree with everyone that wants christina and wedgie banned. Frankly they are a huge part of the fun of this. Yes they are both barely litterate buffoons but they are perfect examples of a large segment of utah "fans". They expose themselves daily. The truth is they really do represent a large portion of so called ute "fans".

They are the ones swearing in front of kids at the stadium. They are the ones throwing drinks on fans of opposing teams. They are the ones behaving in base and classless ways. They are the ones exposing the bigotry of many ute "fans". They represent all that is low in utedom.

Now don't misundertand me, they do not represent all utah fans. But sadly most of those other utah fans are either to scared to publicly object to these clowns behavior or else they tolerate it because they know the utah fanbase is really quite tenuous. They feel they need their numbers to portray a large fanbase so they are willing to tolerate individuals like them to try and perpetuate the myth of utah having a large number of fans.

Slice and dice it anyway you like, but the only way the yewts will ever get anybody of significance to come to RES is at the point of a conference commissioner's gun.

Notre Dame, Texas, Miami, Florida State, USC, Penn State, and many, many other big name programs have already visited LES in the past, most of the them one for one, and you can expect even more of them in the future now that BYU's schedule isn't restricted by conference tie-ins.

Utah is none for one with Notre Dame; none for two with Michigan. Name me ONE elite program that has ever visited RES.

Perhaps this game would present a viewership opportunity for the Big 12 (er, 10) to consider...not that I care. I am fine with going indy - serving up fresh, new meat for the boys in blue has no downside...

Speaking of meat, as in rancid, the mighty Utes are once again on top. They placed numero uno in the bottom half of the ESPN PAC12 really, really preseason ranking. Personally I don't see how they beat out OSU, it probably will not last for long - mark it down!

  • The Deuce Livermore, CA

This is another one of those decisions, like going independent, that seems to baffle all of us. What is BYU thinking, or better yet, what are they drinking. Again, if this is for the money then go ahead and say it. If you are thinking your program is at this level, stay home until you grow up. The Cougar football program is still not headed in the right direction. Clean house on this coaching staff and let's get some solid recruiting going and then in a about 3 years start scheduling these types of games. Until you can walk the walk, no one is listening.

Why should we think your prediction of BYU's first 5 FB games next year would be any more valid than your prediction of last night's game. Why not go get a job or do something else useful besides making yourself look silly. Peace brother.

  • Duckhunter American Fork, UT
    Jan. 27, 2011 5:37 p.m.

uh wedgie...BYU has gone 1 for 1 with Texas (BYU won both games) 1 for 1 with USC, 1 for 1 with Penn State, 1 for 1 with Florida State, 1 for 1 with Texas A&M, 1 for 1 with Washington multiple times, 1 for 1 with UCLA multiple times, 1 for 1 with almost all of the pac 10 multiple times. The only school I can think of that they haven't done that with is ND. Even the current deal with Texas is 1 for 1. The 1st with Texas next year was set up on its own previous to the current set up.

But that said utah has never had an elite grogram (other than BYU) come to its stadium for any reason at all. Never.

Dear Cougar Claws. They have only 12 games scheduled. Because they have Hawaii on the schedule they can play 13 games. This game with TCU is now the 13th game. This gives them 6 home games and 6 away games,

Chris B. Must feel good to have a zero credibility on your BYU predictions.

Hedgehog is in the same category as Chris B. No credibility.

Remember TDS means Touchdown School. Right on you naysayers.

    hedgy

Utah has had half a century to schedule a home game with an elite program 1 for 1, 1 for 2, 1 for 3, doesn't matter, and it's NEVER happened.

It's only been 6 months since BYU declared Independence, so you'll just have to be a little patient on future scheduling.

Recently, however, BYU played USC(2003/2004) and Florida State(2009/2010) home-and-home.

That's two elite programs that have visited Provo in the last six years.

    Now, U show me yours!

An actual elite program that voluntarily chose to visit RES without being forced to by a conference commissioner.

Well for Starters Gary Patterson may have a small amount of input into scheduling but he certainly doesn't have the final say. That's the A.D.'s Job. And even MWC commissioner Craig Thompson will have his own input...which will certaily be interesting to see what comes out of his office. If any body can mess this up... he's the man. Obviously someone is showing someone the Money. ESPN will certainly be waving some of that around. Hope that BYU does get the 13th game...it will greatly improve the breakout year SOS for sure.

To you bitter and jealous trolls...

As mid-major fans who's team lost its bowl game, suffered 3 humiliating losses and (the list goes on) it must be hard to see all the attention going to a rival school with a 7-6 team full of optimism which also has a nationally ranked top 10 basketball team with a Jimmer weapon.

We all look forward to next football season. Some more than others simply because of the way the season ended. Optimism and momentum belong to BYU.

I guess starting from scratch allows you Ute fans something to work from. Somehow the PAC-10.2 option just does not look so 'rosie' as it did before the Utes showed their true color. Red as in embarrassment.

    Hedgehog:

You DO realize WHY we are called tds, right? After dominating Utah in football for years and years, the name "BYU" loomed large on your team's mind. Coach Meyer realized that he had to change that. Being an incredibly astute man, he started refusing to call us by name. And it worked. There was no longer that belief barrier for your players about beating BYU in football.

BUT, that was a decade ago. By continuing to have us be "the team that can't be named," you continue to show us that fear and respect we inspired. So, on behalf of myself and the other cougars, thank you!

I think it's funny that BYU is so optimistic about their football team next year. They went 7-6 last year and they believe that they finished the year very strong.

Let's see who they played to finish out the year. Wyoming, New Mexico, UTEP, Colorado State, and a loss to Utah.

Note to BYU fans, most college football teams would have finished "strong" easily with that schedule. The only good team in the last 5 games that BYU played was Utah. And Utah won that game.

So keep on being optimistic. I'll be realistic.

BYU currently has 7 scheduled home games and 5 roadies. A 13th game at Jerry's World would be a neutral game.

No kh you are not "realistic" you are simply a troll trying to provoke a reaction. I'll make a bet with you right now that BYU not only wins at least 9 games next year but also has a better record than utah who I predict will finish 5-7 and bowless.

Do you have the courage of your "convictions"? I doubt it.

    Here is the bet.

If you win I will post on these boards that kh is the greatest predictor in college football and I will wear a ute shirt to work which I will buy. If you want to know the time and place I will gladly give you that info so you can personally come and confirm I kept my part and paid my debt. I will also post on this board that your life partner christina b is the most beautiful gal in the world.

If I win then you will post on this board that you are no more than a troll, don't know anything about football and will call out wedgie, christina and howard s for every trollish comment they make for a week.

    Deal?

    RE: KH @ 12:42 PM

It's not who they played down the stretch, but how they played. Certainly you can appreciated that. You have a point that a lot of D-1 schools with that last 5 game to end the season schedule (6, including the bowl game) would've been able to win 5 out of those 6 as well, but would they in the impressive fashion that BYU did? And the Utah loss, you know and I know and everyone else knows that BYU was the better team that entire game--on the road no less--and Utah was VERY fortunate to come away with the scoreboard win. One terrible fumble call and some VERY fortunate bounces, otherwise BYU goes home victorious.

    Naked Truth,

looks like you found your "happy place". I'm smelling NC predictions no later than April again.

I guess that's you telling us that you will begin your NC talk in April this year. YOU were the one doing it last Fall before the TCU game....

I thought BYU was going independent to AVOID playing the FROGS? I guesss not...there must be million$ of other reasons???

This would be a nice Thanksgiving weekend game, and its good to see that the Cougs can still command a multi-million dollar payout for a neutral site game like this for their nationally respected audience of fans.

The Utes would/have never been invited to play in a game like this...

    fresonguy,

you know this is untrue. Telling a lie is an honor code no no. If you look back at my past post ( which I assume you keep) you would not read anything close to that.

I forgive you. We all make mistakes.

I like Swoop's observation of quality teams @ RES.

Does Oregon St.(2008) Qualify as a quality program in the recent past? (Not that I want to defend Hedgie).Thu. 10/02/08

"Does Oregon St.(2008) Qualify as a quality program in the recent past?"

Quality, yes. Elite, not even close.

Programs I would classify as elite programs:

    Ohio State
Michigan (even though they've been down lately)
    Penn State
    Notre Dame (see Michigan)
    Nebraska
    Oklahoma
    Texas
    Florida
    Florida State
    Miami
    Alabama
    LSU
    Georgia

Perennial Top 25 teams for the last 30 years and teams that have won at least one National Championship in the last 30 years.

Note: Childishly misspelling someone's blog handle (like fresnogirl) is like a grade-schooler sticking out his tongue when he doesn't have an intelligent response to an argument.

It's interesting how quickly the world of college sports changes, like this little blast from the past:

    "hedgehog | 12:18 p.m. Oct. 22, 2010
    Ann Arbor, MI

Ahh yes, 6-0 ranked #9 in the BCS... [BYU] is in shambles and the Utes will cherry pick the top LDS players going forward

Its GREAAAATTTT to be a Ute."

    Fast forward to today:

Ahh yes, 20-1, ranked #9 in the country with one of the top three national POY candidates... Utah is in shambles and the Cougars will be cherry picking any Utah recruit that the Cougars want going forward.

It's GREAAAAAATTTT to be a Cougar!

(Oh yeah, BYU played so well in their biggest game in Marriott Center history, that there were 1300 articles written about Jimmer and BYU the day after the game -- according to MSNBC.)
