Suggestion for finding 3 guys who move their feet and usually stay between their
guy and the basket...Fesenko, Hayward, and Evans. It is time to play them more,
and play two of them together at the same time whenever possible.
A 500 team is a 500 team. That is--a team that is capable of losing to
absolutely anyone and who doesn't guard their home court with passion and
swagger. This is a team full of great guys, but until they establish some
identity on defense and truly take pride in their ability to shut opponents
down, that is all they will be. I think it's amazing they have the record they
do at this point, but, lets face it--they are 500 over their last twelve games
and in those twelve games, they have lost to really BAD teams and also have let
fairly weak teams push them around at home. In about half of the games, the 2nd
unit comes out and lights things up for awhile and it's fun to watch. In the
other half of those games, the bench is a non factor. The remark you hear
from a lot of the Jazz players (especially their talented Captain) is--give the
other team credit, they played great. Wrong! They LOOKED great because you
didn't play defense. The Jazz look good against defenseless teams as well. It
works that way.
If the veterans are not going to play with effort and desire Jerry, why not lose
giving your younger players some experience. I'm talking Fess, Hayward and
Evans. Whats the difference a loss is a loss. No wonder players don't want to
come here and play under this coach! Either clean house Millers and I mean at
the coaching level or sell this team and get them out of here, this same old
story is worn out.
This happens every January; give us a 40 game NBA season-----too many injuries
and lack of effort and lack of energy-- a December to April season is
enough---cut all salaries in half. Coaching staff should make around 50K a
year--that is their value to society.
Put me down for being in favor of Fes, Hayward and Evans getting more playing
time. We need defense and these guys play it. The vetrans are not right now.
When we were playing good basketball earlier in the season these 3 guy's were
getting meaningful minutes and were making contributions especially on the
defensive end. Evans goes after the rebounds which is a rarity amoung the slow
starting vetrans on this team. Play the guys who want to rebound, defend and
execute the plays. Play Fesenko, Hayward and Evans. Maybe if the vetrans watch
them play from the bench they can see how it is done. I don't mind losing a few
games as long as we see some effort.
One more vote on the wisdom of Evans and Fesenko, maybe not Hayward...He could
wind up as the Darko Milicic of the Jazz.
Coach Sloan, you are the man who accepts the responsibility for how the team
plays...these stories make it appear that D-Will is doing that. We now need the
Coach to step up and make the Defense happen, as that is also his specialty.
I would love to see a 40 game season. Also I would love to see the first two
rounds of the playoffs be 5 game series. The season is way too long
and it really takes away from the game. Too many are boring with the players
looking like they don't want to be there. That's no excuse for
players who are making many millions to play basketball, but I think it would
make it a lot more exciting. Football should go back to 12 games,
the world series should be in October not November, and the NBA season should be
I trust the Jazz staff and KOC to put a winning product on the floor. I think
for the most part they have tried to do just that, BUT,Raja Bell was brought in
to fill the void left by Mathews, Brewer and Korver and CJ Miles was going to
help pick up some of that burden. I think CJ has responded well, and the idea of
bringing in Bell made sense at the time, he knew the system, he burned us when
he was a free agent for an extra 5ook to play with Phoenix and he was being
courted by Koby to ride pine in LA. so he decided to take the money and sign a
multi year deal w/ Utah. I don't blame Raja, it's business, but Raja Bell is not
a starting caliber 2 guard or a leader! He is a veteran in the league but not a
leader on the court. He is a defensive liability and does not look to score or
assist or rebound. Obviously Bell can hit an open jump shot occasionally, But it
is no wonder D-Will is frustrated with the starters, the 2 is weak!
BELL gives this team something they have lacked since Fisher rode out of town on
his silver horse--leadership & tuffness..Bell needs to start getting in
players face during practice & light a fire in their pants. Sloan really
should be doing this, but sloan doesn't have the passion or drive anymore..Both
him & phil sit on the bench & mumble to each other as the TV camers
shows. When these 2 nice guys retire, you will see a totally new club that will
have passion playing for a much younger coach who will scream in their face if
needed...What happened to that coach who use to get in "00" Ostertags
face many times ??? These players still need a wake-up call every so often.....
And they're down by 16 with 2:43 left in the 1st quarter to Boston, gotta play
an improved Philly tomorrow...and then there's LA & SA to look forward to.
Gonna be some major changes coming.Looking at the schedule, the
problems really started when Memo came back. Having the starters, and then
using Price-Earl-CJ-Fes-Elson as a change of pace really seemed effective, but I
guees it's too gimmicky for Sloan, despite the wins.
