Sloan has done a really good job of mixing and matching combinations this year.
If Memo can get back to 100% that will give Sloan some flexibility
and it could open up the inside which would improve both Millsap's and AJ's
rebounding and AJ's shooting percentage. This team seems less ego
driven and willing to help the team by being less concerned about starting and
more concerned about winning by letting Sloan play the right combo's. I am not hearing any "I'm a starter nonsense (in spite of the fact it
may hurt the team). If some of the players get a little rest (by
Okur adding quality minutes) there may be more overall energy across several
games and more wins. The fans appreciate "how you play when you
are in". They do not care if you are a "starter". They care that
you are playing well and helping the team to win. Most fans
understand that match ups are important and that it takes players who are
willing to give up a little ego to max out the teams ability to win as many
games as possible.
Inserting AK into the starting lineup last January really helped the Jazz out.
Maybe a switch up could change things this year too. I say start
Okur, bring Millsap off the bench (but Okur needs to get into better shape
before he can start)
I think the Jazz will make a breakthrough soon and get out of this first-half
funk they've been in. Millsap deserves to start, but it's cool to know he'll
play whatever role will help the team, which may involve shaking up the starting
5 (whether that affects him or not). It may only take minor tweaks to the
rotation to get things to click more consistently. Go Jazz!
I love Coach Sloan and I believe he will lead this franchise to a Championship.
One thing that stuck out to me in this article was the fact that coach said some
guys dont do well coming off the bench"."It's a crap shoot", that
should not be the case with any pro. I think he was refering to AK? If you have
guys on the team that slow you down one way or the other, its time to let those
player or players move on. I think Bell hurts this starting line up with his
lack of defense and shooting. Making a change to the starting line up or roster
wont be a "Crap shoot", it will be a "No brainer"! We need a
shooting guard! Last night Otheus Jeffers scored 27 pts and had 17 rebounds for
Iowa. I know it is the D-League, but I would rather have OJ than Bell right now,
he has so much energy and wants to be in the NBA so bad, he has so much drive
and Bell is at the end of his NBA career. Any thoughts?
You have a bunch of starters outside of Dwill who are not consistent scorers.
AJ is a slow starter. AK is not a shooter. Bell is not a scorer. Millsap is
hot and cold during the game and is a slow starter like AJ. During the course
of the game, they all get their points but too unknown from the scoring side
with the starters. If you are going to start those five, expect inconsistency
in scoring in the first quarter. On the other hand, Memo and CJ are
instant offense. Moving Memo back into the starting lineup could help and
playing Bell only 6 minutes in the first quarter before bringing in CJ would
Jazz-Nation: I really like Raja, and his veteran presence and toughness is a
good thing to have around, but I see your point. I think he might be better
suited to come off the bench. He's not as good a shooter as he used to be, but
teams should feel they need to respect his range and guard him. I like CJ but
dang, I wish he were more consistent. He can do some really great things...I
just wish he'd do it all the time. I don't know what the answer is, but it
seems a lineup/rotation change would help. Keeping Jeffers may have been
helpful, but certainly no guarantees of what he could to at a higher level.
don't know why you would bench sap? don't think he is the propblem so benching
him won't solve the problem. most games he is the only one doing any scoring in
the first quater. need to look were there is no production when you look at
benching a player. as in the 17 mil dollar man doing nothing. bell for cj just
brings someone who shoots everytime he touches the ball. half the games he hits
half he makes nothing. i don't see much on the bench to help the starting line
up. maby earl then the bench ain't much. should go after rip.
CJ Miles you are right. We need more offense from those guys. I think Deron is
having a hard time figuring out a balance between needing to score and wanting
to assist. Knowing he'll get consistent shooting from the other 4 guys would
help. But I do think that if the starting 5 would be more active on the
defensive end with swats, deflections, steals, etc. that could spark the offense
they need from people like AK, who is great on a fast break, or even Raja who
could drive & score before the opposition has a chance to get set.
This is why I am glad we have Sloan as a coach.Fans worry about the
starts and the coach worries about the finishes.Yoo-hoo!Most of the first 3 quarters are for fans entertainment. If you examine the
top teams they know how to execute in the 4th quarter both offensively and
defensively.Considering the fact that basically every single player
in our starting lineup, except Deron, was either not even on the team or not a
starter last season we are doing better than ANYONE dreamed we would or thought
we could. No doubt things could be better but when couldn' they
be?This team still has alot of progress to be made but people act
like all these new pieces should be playing together like the same group we had
for years. That is pure fantasy. It takes a while to get the
chemistry needed to do that. Give them some time to gel. I is also pure
fantasy to think that this many new players could be a championship caliber team
their first year together. It will take time to get everyone more
comfortable with each other and their new roles.
The Jazz are in a very similar situation to the year they traded for Jeff
Hornacek; they were winning but missing an outside scoring threat. I wish they
could get the Clipper's Eric Gordon--what a dynamic backcourt that would be.
Until they find another SG that rebounds, plays defense & can score 15+
points a game (like Matthews), other teams are just going to crowd the middle
& make it tough for Jefferson & Millsap to score. Unfortunately we
might have to wait until next year before that happens. On a side
note: I'll be stunned if Okur makes it back to game shape & has the long
career he talks about having. The Jazz almost need to plan around ever getting
a 100% Memo back in the lineup. He was slow before, now he's immobile too.
Great shooter though.
Get Granger from Indy! The only way the Jazz have a chance this year or next
(keeping Williams) is if KOC pulls something off. If not, bye bye Williams! WilliamsBell(for defense)GrangerMillsapHibbertHate to say it but big Al does not do well in this system,
he can't finish around the rim. Trade AK and Hayward. Indy will have 26 mil free
next year with AK and Dunleavy off the books...
Granger is out of reach and demands the ball way too often...this is why Darren
Collison's numbers went down...you dont need another high profile player...what
you need are some solid players that would do the job...we already have the star
players...all we need are some support...or a Ray Allen type of player...good
defense and a solid outside threat...@CJ Milesreally? CJ
Miles? instant offense?...maybe...on some occasions...if he becomes
consistent...he will be...but this season...he is nothing close to it...if you
really think CJ is instant offense...then he should be someone like Manu
Ginobili...now that is instant offense off the bench...dont fool yourself
anymore...5 years worth of nothing that is CJ Miles...he has the talent...but
never works hard enough to get consistency...if he really has that much
upside...he would have been consistent at most in his 3rd year...and would've
been starting this year...and being a major option in the offense...while D-Will
could take the load off...
AK for Iggy and Kopono - ESPN trade machine says it works (and KOC play well
with Philly - ie Harpring & Korver :)
its funny because raja's 3 point % is as good or better than most of the guys
you are talking about so i don't think he is the problem and as was stated
earlier he is tough. would i rather still have matthews definitely yes. he is
as high energy as it gets. the thing we need is to rebound the basketball. i
think that is why we miss matthews. he was a good rebounder along with all the
other intangibles. memo would definitely help in this area. rebound rebound
thats what this jazz team doesn't do very well at.
Kakashi if you really understood basketball you would better understand CJ's
value to the Jazz. There is a reason he plays and dominates at times. Do you
see Bell or AK taking over a game? But I am sure they are 10 times the player
CJ is in your eyes. And we need a Ray Allen type of player? Oh I
forgot there are tons of Ray Allen types in the league (rolling eyes). The problem with fans like you is you think that every player wants to sign
with Utah and every player on bad teams would be a star in Utah.
I have been on Jazz FB and Chuck Nunn sites discusing this. I have said for
weeks CJ Miles should replace Raja Bell in the starting lineup. CJ has been
pulled from the Memphis game and was in the doghouse for one game. I trust he
is mature enough and seems smarter now to realize he will not hoist 15-18 shots
unless he is making them. The fact is he is mixing up his game better but still
reverts to bad habits. The Knicks tonight looked great against a Portland team
that was doing well. Landry Fields the rookie started, used his length against
Wes Matthews and held him to non factor 2-13 and scored 8 points. Ronny Turiaf
started for a rare time to match up Aldridge and held him down, scoring 19 with
10 boards himself, making 8-9. Stoudemaire was solid, and Ray Felton had a lot
of great assists leading to dunks and drilling shots also.We will
have a tough game. A slow start tomorrow will be fatal. I do not agree it is
not important, such energy is needed to come back even if you win.Takes toll as games mount
@Kakashi,good luck trying to get miles to understsnd,I`ve said for years that cj
is lazy, out of shape, worthless and way overpaid,he could`nt even carry Ray
Allens atheletic protector
@CJ Mileswell...i didnt say nor expect that any player would sign
with us...that is stupid...i already mentioned it before...the jazz is a small
to mid market team...that's why there is a trade...its forced...the guy who got
traded to us wouldnt realized it till it was done...also there arent any more
ray allen's in the league because kids these days wants flair in their game but
sad to say that is the type of player in my opinion that we need...and CJ Miles
doesnt dominate...he gets a good game...never dominates...Michael Jordan
dominates games..Kobe Bryant dominates games...Shaq in his prime dominates
games...CJ Miles...gets a fluke and you call it dominating a game...the problem
with fans like you...is you are a fan of a player...but not a team...you are to
engrossed to look at your sports hero's weakness...CJ Miles can help the
team...on his good day...destroy it on his bad day...why? coz he shoots 1-11 and
keep hoisting up a lot of useless threes and ill-advised shots...
