Looking at the the Score you would not think that the Jazz had more points in
the paint than Atlanta. The Jazz did not lose this game because of effort,
Atlanta hot hand or the Jazz's defense needs work. They lost because they were
unwilling to shoot more 3 point shots. Every play the Jazz went to a
zone Atlanta took a 3 point shot. (all 5 of them - they went 4 of 5 from the
three) Every play that Atlanta went to a Zone (and there was a lot of them
sometimes very illegal) the Jazz tried to force it into the paint for a bad
shot. I much rather see the Jazz take open 3 point shots than contested layups.
We even shot the 3 point the three point shot well. Here is a
quick recapJazz ran 50 possessions going in to the basket (12 feet
and in) and they scored 44 point. The Jazz ran 37 possessions taking jump
shots 12 feet and out for a total of 43 points. The Jazz should
have taken 40 3 point shots this game. They win this game going away.
Blauch, I agree with your analysis. However, the point being you will not be
great offensively every night, then you win with defense. The Jazz are one of
the worst teams I have seen in one issue: Giving up corner 3s....
Todd - The Jazz shot 7 of 14 from 3. That is pretty outstanding. Had they taken
taken as many 3 points shots as Atlanta they are in this game. They make Atlanta
play man and we can go inside. There was about 6 turnover the Jazz forced the
ball inside a very tight zone. As far as the Jazz defense - they
are currently allowing only 29% of the opponents shots are going into the paint.
Compare that to last year 35% and you lose a lot of games. Against
the Clippers it worked they Jazz went Zone after being torched in the paint the
first quarter and the Clippers started taking long 3 point shots. Against Zone
Atlanta made 4 of 5 Against.
The biggest problem was our defenders not defending the 3 point line. I would
have liked to have seen more open 3's taken. Atlanta did a much better job
defending the 3pt line and not allowing us open 3pt shots which is why our
attempts were so much lower.
I hate to beat a dead horse, but Raja should be a bench player not a starter.
D-Will needs a 2 guard that will shoot the open shot, not pump fake, draw
defender and pass out. We need a shooting guard that likes to shoot, who can
shoot and defend the perimeter. Why not start CJ? The Jazz need to try
something. If nobody thinks starting CJ would improve the slow starts than we
need to make a trade. Our Bigs need to earn some respect, right now they are
getting handled. Take more charges, set hard picks, and start dunking on some
heads early and make a statement. Set the tone early. Even if you drive to the
hole and dunk on your defender and get called for a charge, who cares, at leaste
you are making a statement! Stop playing so soft, get the KILL AT WILL, SEEK AND
DESTROY, NO MERCY!! because the team you are playing wont show you any, I
promise you that. Show some heart Jazz, and dont get punked in your own house!
I say...let Fes and CJ start for the next 5 games...bring AL Jeff to the 4 and
millsap as a 6th man...the next 5 games will be evaluation of talent of some
sorts for both Fes and CJ...they need to make those 5 games count...or they need
to go...we need is consistency...we need to have guys consistently producing on
their roles within the team...if CJ still shoots clunkers even if he
started...trade him...we could get a better player for him...Reggie Williams?
Anthony Morrow?...heck i would even welcome a headcase like JR Smith...i think
Sloan thought CJ could be like JR smith...the one guy coming off the bench with
a lot of confidence...torching up threes...im getting tired of CJ and his 5 yr
development...it would take another 2-4 years for that kid to mature and play
smart...i think the reason why Sloan usually not defend the three its because he
thinks its a low percentage shot...we are not in the 80's or 90's anymore..kid's
practice 3 pointers more than FTs
the Hawks are just hot beyond the arc, its just unfortunate that they feel it
against Utah, unless Utah will try to feel it too! Utah is not a three point
shooting team, because no one can drill it! we rely too much inside the paint,
we have to make some three point shots
