Sounds like Dick is just trying to save Face(r).

After their 8-0 cupcake fest, the Utes finished with three humiliating losses and barely avoided losing all six of their final games:

AFA 28-23 five Falcon turnovers gave Utah the game
    TCU 7-47 blowout
    ND 3-28 blowout
SDSU 38-34 trailed most of the game
BYU 17-16 trailed most of the game
BSU 3-26 blowout of a team that "knows how to win bowls"

Back to the future for Utah:

    -no more bowl winning streaks
    -no more winning big games
    -no more conference championships
    -no more BCS bowls

    Utah 1980 meet Utah 2011.

i was hoping that utah had just a little more to give to at least make the game respectable but unfortunately this team is not the past several teams that utah has fielded. i hope this is not a picture of what is to come, good luck utah.

Moving to PAC12 should also mean a better offensive staff! Our RBs only had 11 carries???? That is not a spread offense, that is the 80's BYU offense! Get rid of those former cougars on offense and get someone that knows how to use the UTES strength. Freaking ridiculous...

    Wow! Do you see that!

It just keeps going up and up and up.

Never seen anything like that! Amazing!

Is there no topping out for that skyrocket?

    It just keeps going!

So this is what PAC 12 means to us!

So when the ticket prices do top out do you think we can still afford tickets to these games?

Oh well, we can stay home and watch ESPN.

SLCWatch said, "Oh well, we can stay home and watch ESPN." Yes sir, that is where the mighty Cougars will be playing. And you are welcome to tune in.

Utah's final football game as a representative of the Mountain West Conference didn't end so well.

Well that was the understatement of the year!!!!

SLCwatch - good luck watching the Utah games on ESPN, they will be airing the teams that are winning, i.e. Oregon, USC, Stanford, and you do not play two of those three teams next year, as Chris B. so aptly pointed out in another post.

The slide into obscurity began last night and will continue as long as the U is in the PAC-whatever. Conference of Chimps and so on.

I honestly don't think Utah will perform as bad in the PAC as many of my fellow cougars are enjoying predicting.

It does however appear there may be a breaking in phase that might even humble some of the most arrogant posters on these stories. I just don't want to be one of them (the arrogant) anymore.

Good luck, Utah! I think it will turn out well for you somewhat sooner than later.

    redfeather/SportsFan/Bugoff/Veritas whatever,

All of you anti-Ute fans (pro-BYU fans) have got to accept the fact that Utah is now moving on to bigger and better things. We know you're hurt because you didn't get invited, and Utah did. But your continual posts wreak with just one thing: sour grapes.

to all of you bYu fans at least the Utes have a conference to play in, And a good one at that.

  • wardu Fallon, NV
    Dec. 23, 2010 10:23 a.m.

WestCoast1, You're right, it was disappointing that BYU did not get invited to a BCS conference, so they just went out and did what was best for BYU. Now that the season is over and looking back, both schools did the right thing for themselves.

But sour grapes? I think not! Our continual posting is just because Utefan(not all, but most) refuses to admit, like Coach Whitt did, that that moving on is not like moving up. Like the good coach said, "the bar has been raised" and U are straining your collective necks looking up at said bar!

    What say you?

    @ CarabaoU
Those former cougars are the ones that took you to the Fiesta and Sugar bowls with 2 undefeated seasons. They aren't the ones who were holding when you scored td's and they didn't drop the ball either.

Perhaps your blame should reside eleswhere.

    Shaky dropped another pass...

Notthegame, that was a memorable retort, did you spend a sleepless night working on that one? And that clever little way of spelling BYU, that was not original.

Y grad / Y dad, I always enjoy reading your posts, you have a maturity and wisdom that I am still lacking. You are taking the high road, but I am disinclined to do so.

At sometime in the future I may not dip myself in the mire that this board lowers itself to many times, but today is a day for PILING ON. Still it is not even close to how the Y haters were at BYU's 1-4 mark. karma.

My only question is - after a performance like that, should yewties be more concerned about the severe lack of English or football skills?

2004 Fiesta team did not have any current Offensive coashes on that staff. (Brian Johnson was a player). The 2008 Sugar Bowl team only had Roderick as WR coach and Schramm as RB coach. Andy Ludwig was the OC.

My point is that with Matt Asiata and Eddie Wide both being 1,000 rushers before why this year, especially in November games, were they not running much? Unacceptable.

I'm glad Shaky is leaving. That dude fumbles more in games than most WRs and RBs fumble in their careers!

Did mr. "girsle state" even get in the game? I didn't see any stats for him. Maybe Whit sent him back home to retake his English 99R Final.

Wow, the Ute haters are in full force....

I'm assuming your hate is coming from the sour grape cocktail you've been forced to drink.

Not getting into the conference you've coveted for more than 4 decades must hurt - but having your big brother getting in must have left a mark - ouch!

To add insult the utes ripped your heart out (again) by blocking a game winning field goal.

    Happy Holidays!

    ===

Thank you, LeftCoast1, but I have not even commented on this story.

    Lefty and Hedgie...

Why if anyone does not predict Utes for NC2010, or a 50-5 blowout of BSU, you kids lump us in as Utah haters, and next BYU fans? Must everyone partake of the same koolaid you kids drink?

Can't you just deal with the fact that some of us hate the arrogance of the classless part of the Utah Fanbase.

Also, the University of Utah is paid for by my Tax Dollars, not yours. So if I feel the need to comment on how MY tax dollars are spent to represent MY state, I feel I can. And I don't really have to care about what you out-of-towner, carpetbagger, hang-er-on-er, wannabes think...

Some Utes showed alot of heart last night, and some were embarassing.

Shaky has nothing to feel bad for. Terrance Cain played his heart out. Blecher is a stud.

The thugs talking trash before the game did not represent the state well. Kyle's fault.

Sorry, Hedgehog, but, as usual, you've completely misjudged BYU fan reaction to BYU's upset loss to Utah.

It's a tossup for BYU fans whether they were more frustrated with the conservative playing calling at the end that gave the game away or the lucky breaks and questionable calls that gave the Utes a chance to win a game they didn't deserve to win.

Next year Anae will be gone and Doman will be calling the plays. If you're curious about what to expect with Doman in charge and Heaps at QB, see LaVell's final game against Utah.

    Happy Holidays to you!

I'm excited for the Utes to play in the PAC-12. Next year will be very interesting.

But I have to admit, the hatred on this board is getting old.

Ted H.: Tweets. Full of battered English, smack talk and poor spelling. Kind of like all these posts by folks who insist "yewtie" is a real word.

Veritas: I generally enjoy your comments, but hang-er-on-er wannabes? That hurts, man. Having paid tuition to the U, and as an alum who still contributes, this "carpet-bagger" is curious: how much of your tax dollars you think are actually going to the U's football team?

I agree, the arrogance from fans can be sickening. But ask most folks from MWC schools who has the most arrogant, self-righteous, and pompous fans---and the answer may not be what you think.

Jealous U: Perhaps you should go back and watch Lavell's last game against Utah. A questionable call (no, actually it was a MISSED call on a fumble by a Y player---which had they had replay then, would have been caught) help propel BYU to a late game victory. Nice. Karma can be a pain.

Do Cougar fans realize that wishing Utah does poorly in the Pac-12 hurts the Cougar program?

They probably don't understand yet that there is no "independent conference" title to win. They have to hope that their opponents have good seasons.

Other than one week in September, all of Provo should be cheering "Go Utes!"

  • Big J Bountiful, UT
    Dec. 24, 2010 1:43 p.m.

Some of these comments are very funny.

Utah finished 10-3. A very fine season! They lost to two top 10 teams. I was at the bowl game; if our receivers would have caught a few early balls the outcome may have been different. That said, BSU and TCU, are better teams this year.

To those posters whos teams have more than 3 losses, youre teams are not as good as Utah. Period! All that matters is wins and losses.

Utah moves to the Pac-12 next year. This is the envy of both BSU and BYU. BYU did not improve their lot by going independent. They have no conference championship; Will loses 3 to 4 games every year, even with the 7-8 cupcakes on the schedule. Further, they have relegated all other sports to obscurity. Moronic move at best.

Utah may have "growing pains" in the Pac-12, but will work their way to the top. Its great to be a Ute!

To all you doubter WHY? fans! who think we will be bottom dwellers. Your are only saying that out of jealousy of our invitation. Utah will do great in the PAC 12! i'm excited to see some storied programs come to Salt Lake every year.
