So, let me get this right. Anderson recommends:1) not letting Boise
score a lot2) try and get turnovers3) run the ball
well. That's some great insight! I'm sure KW never thought about
that.Plus, why does Anderson care about "poking the
giant." Not really "conference foes" anymore.
Some blueprint plan. This coming from a coach who has been run over by a team
two years in a row. "Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the
play." We are all waiting to hear how the utes defeated BSU in the bowl
game to see if those wonderful plans worked out. Let's see how a team that is
going to the "Conference of Champions" can handle a little 'ol team
that is a MWC wantabe. The very conference that the utes are smearing at every
chance. Go play with the big boys now....uhhh maybe not.
I'm not a dreamer but I love cheering for the little guy, the underdog, and this
will be no different. I say don't count the Utes out yet. I know, I'm a Cougar
fan to the core, but I would love to see Utah upset the Broncos. Why? well
frankly, because it will make BYU look good too! If the Broncos blow away the
Utes in a lopsided win, how does that make BYU look? Utah being
exposed/humiliated on national tv by Boise will do nothing to enhanced BYU's
image, especially after we lost to them (Utah) in the regular season. So, go
Utes!!! Yep, my motives are somewhat selfish but so what? Go get 'em, Utes!!!
You can do it!!!
Maybe Utah should try getting the BSU kicker to miss two chipshots in the final
seconds. Think of how close Boise was to playing in the BCS. To be honest,
they should have been playing there even with that loss.
Forget about how this makes BYU look (a very strange reason to cheer for your
rival when you consider we've recruited vs. one another for years). This isn't
about BYU anyway...Let's get to the heart of it: BSU is better
all-around on all sides of the ball, better coached and super hyped up for this
game after narrowly missing a BCS opp.BSU by at least 30 points.
Rock reports: "The other half, of course, is talent. In that area, Andersen
said the teams are 'very close.'"Hah! I'll take heart and
consistency over all the talent in the world every time.Even at
that, I'd say it's a major stretch on Anderson's part to assert that Utah is
"very close" on the talent scale, as talent has much more to do with
implementing it than possessing it.Just watch: BSU in the fifties. U
of U in the teens.
The vegas spread was only 17 last I checked. I beleive it should be closer to
25, but whatever the spread, the Utes have a chance in this one and they have to
execute their game plan. The coaches will need to make changes at the
half to stay in the game and it could go down to the wire. And if we
need lady luck on our side to pull it out, I wouldn´t turn her out.Utes by 2 in a nail-biter.
"Andersen is careful not to take sides. No reason to offend a conference
colleague."This just in, Rock. Boise and USU will be in
different conferences next year -- unless you know something we don't.
I'll take BSU minus the 17 points any day. Utes will get slaughtered. It's
gonna be embarrassing....Results of the game aside, the author and
interviewee missed the most important key for anyone playing BSU. TCU. UO
(Oregon, not OK) or Auburn this year: You have to control time of possession and
keeep their offenses off the field. Only by long sustained SCORING drives could
Utah or anyone hope to beat these elites. Sorry, Utes, streak ends now.
Utes should save their blackout gear to wear on Thursday. Actually they should
get some camo gear as they will want to hide after the beating they receive from
the blueprint to stopping boise comes from their loss to nevada. true, the
kicker missed 2 easy field goals, but the nevada D held off boise's attack long
enough to get them back in the game and get them a win. if it wasn't for that
break in coverage at the end of the game then the kicker doesn't even get a shot
at those field goals. if nevada's defense can hold off boise state, then utah's
can too. establishing the run will be quite a tall order though. nevada ran
all over boise, but utah isn't as committed to the run as nevada is nor can they
run it as efficiently either, but they need to expose boise between the tackles.
Utah will compete hard and it should be a good game to watch. I doubt BSU
covers this large point spread.
The Utes are in for a long game I am affraid. However, I'd rather play Boise and
get whipped than play the worst team ever to make a bowl game (UTEP).
GO UTES!!! I'm a big time Cougar fan but I'm pulling for you guys to get it
done and make the state of Utah proud.
Gary Anderson has no idea how to stop or slow down the Broncos. He has been
blown out the past two years, if Utah wanted to know how to slow BSU ask Nevada.
Turnovers are not going to happen. Kellen Moore is the most accurate Quarterback
in NCAAF. he has a touchdown to interception ration of 33:5, and in many games
didn't even play the 4th and a lot of the third quarter. BSU is a more rounded
team, and i believe they should still be going to a BCS bowl. Look how Terrence
Cain did against BYU's secondary. he was 2/7 8 yards and 2 interceptions. Boise
State has a much better secondary than BYU so Utah will have to rely on their
running game, oh and by the way Boise state has the sixth best rush defense in
Hey eastcostcoug, Didn't Utah St. beat Byu by double digits? When is the last
time Utah lost to Utah St. do some research.
The game will be decided on the field by athletes, not the Uncle Rico's of the
world on the Des News comment boards.
If Uncle Rico were playing, Utah would win... The case is he is not, so this is
what will probably happen.BSU 55Utah 10
I love the picture at the top of these comments. Coach peterson has a big
confident smile, but Kwitt looks like he does not really want to be there at
all. His aura says overmatched and what will I tell the team after we get our
third tail-whipping of the year. We all know Boise is still steamed about that
loss to Nevada, and are going to take it out on the Utes. I predict this
is the last time we we see the U of U in a bowl game for some time. Any Ute fan
that thinks they are just going to go into any PAC-X+ii (little i's for the
little guys, Colorado and Utah) stadium and win consistantly is up in the night.
The Utes are going to have to rethink their team goals, starting with HOPING to
be bowl eligible each year from now on.It will be fitting to have a big
loss to start the Utes new theme "HOPE not to be an also-ran" in the
new PAC-X+iiBoise St 52 Utah 24
This is the last guy I would listen to on how to get an upset over Boise State.
Anderson would hold more weight if this article was written before the Utah v
BYU game. Considering USU put the beat down on Cougars.
We have more BYU fans on this Utah board than showed up in New Mexico for the
bowl game. I didn't think that things could get any slower in Provo ? Just got the news that with the 2,500 no shows out of 5,000 BYU is paying out
$.83 to the other teams in the MWC, for their share of the prophets. Utah
by 5 Utah 3 All Americans BYU 0
I don't have a dog in this hunt so I can just sit back and watch the show and
not really care about the outcome. But if I were to make a bet it would be on
BSU. They have a very good team. And Utah is a paper tiger this year.
the football game and basketball game point spread will be exactly the same Utes
thebigsamoan: Really? Since when does Utah care about BYU looking good, how
about never! They are desperate because they can't make themselves look good.
I admire how BSU plays, exciting play calls and great execution. However, I am
not counting out Utah. If the Utes can get focused on their game plan (got to
pressure the QB), it could be a competitive game. . . . . Could! Won't bother
me much if Utah wins, sincere congrats, if that happens, but I think BSU will
get the win. BSU 34-21.
The best thing the Utes have going for them is...The Broncos don't want to
be in this game! They were two-blocked FGs from the BCS Final. There
is no way even Coach Petersen can get his kids minds around that.
This was code for good luck Utah you're going to need it!
"This, then, is the Utes' key to an upset: Limit Boise's scoring flurries,
respect the defense, capitalize on turnovers and establish a run game."Can I just add one more key?Utah needs to score more points
than BSU, and they will win. There, we have just covered all of the
obvious keys to the game. What an enlightening story for anyone who
has never watched a football game...
I disagree with most of the post here as well as Rock's angle. You are going to
Anderson for an article on BSU and your Yewts? What is this? There isn't even a
story or a unique angle or anything worth the reader's time."BSU doesn't want to be there." errrrr, yes they do."I would rather get blown out by BSU than play UTEP and win."
That's like saying I would rather get b-slapped by a hottie, than have a NCMO
with a cutie."BYU fans have nothing to do but comment on a Yewt
article." Not at all, we have soooooo much to do. Personally, I need to
head on over to the BYU sports section of the D-News and catch up on all the
comments Yewt posters.
The Utes better hope the Broncos spend a whole lot of time in the casinos (which
they won't), because if they don't, one string will end and another will
increase. BSU in the 50s; UofU in the teens.
I'm a big time cougar fan who will be hoping for Utah to win. Good luck Utes.
It will be good for about a quarter and a half then there will be turnovers for
Utah. I suspect about 5 for the game. It will get ugly in the second half.
BSU's loss to UNR showed that after-all, BSU is mortal and they have
vulnerabilities. I'm sure Kyle and the staff have gone over every second of
that game multiple times and have weeded out those vulnerabilities. I think
Cain is capable of playing inspired football. I've seen it. It is going to take
big games from him and other key players, and a subpar performance from BSU, but
an upset is definitely a possibility.
Why the ragging on Gary Andersen? A reporter asked his opinion, and he shared
his opinion.I suspect he has a lot more insight into this topic than
those of you who are criticizing him.
I heard the Utes picked a fight with the Broncos at the Hard Rock Cafe, busting
up a table and breaking a bunch of dishes in the process. It's just
like the Utes to instigate a pregame fight, just like they've tried to do the
last two years against BYU, coming all the way over to BYU's side of the field
to mouth off and start pushing and shoving to try to provoke a fight.
Thank you SportsFan from Orem for your meaningless opinion based on drivel! Keep
up the good work! I heard that BYU ALWAYS travels well to football games. What
"I would rather get blown out by BSU than play UTEP and win."So you'd trade Utah's 12-3 bowl record against mostly unranked teams for a
5-10 record against mostly ranked teams.Utah fans have been
belittling BYU's bowl record for years, even though BYU has played more ranked
bowl opponents than Utah has played bowls, but now that the tables have turned
and Utah is facing the real possibility of losing their bowl winning streak to a
ranked opponent, suddenly Utah fans are singing a different tune.Gotta love the hypocrisy.
Everyone is saying BSU over Utah by 2 1/2 TD's. Think I would have to take Utah.
Kyle seem to get his teams ready for the bowls. Go Utes!!!!
BYU fans usually travel well to bowl games, but even BYU fans have their
limits.Spending several thousand dollars on a bowl game that was
just a little more interesting than playing New Mexico in Albuquerque just
wasn't worth the time and expense. Besides, staying home gave BYU fans a chance
to watch a double-header of BYU football and BYU basketball.Feel
free to beat your chests, but BYU-Oregon State outdrew Utah-California by about
7000 fans last year and EVERY BYU home game for the past 30 years has outdrawn
the highest attendance in the history of RES.Utah wouldn't have had
500 fans show up for a 6-6 Utah team playing a 6-6 UTEP team in the New Mexico
Bowl. We'll see how well Utah fans travel by the percentage of Utah
fans in the stands versus Boise State fans.Guaranteed, if a 10-2 BYU
was playing an 11-1 Boise State team in Las Vegas, at least 60% of the fans
would be BYU fans.
Bottom line is, whether Utah wins or loses, Utah will be off to the Pac 12 while
BSU will be off to the Wac part II. Bye bye ESPN for BSU and say hello to the
Mtn Network. Go Utes!!
Evne though the teams are different, this does feel a lot like the Sugar Bowl
two years ago. Lot of people pounding the "BSU will crush Utah"
drum". I'm not so sure this will happen.A U win would only
give ammo to "fans" like Chris B, Uteology, Hedgehog, Willary and a
few others. Which I why I'd love to see BSU hand it to the U. No
one will really remember this game next year anyway, nor will it have any
bearing on standings in the early season as well. I wouldn't count the U out,
and I think uncle rico will have some tricks up his sleeve...but so will Cpete.
Wallbanger | 4:35 p.m. Dec. 20, 2010 Spanish Fork, UT Bottom line

Go Utes!! ===Actually, Utah will be off to the PAC part
three...I mean, who thinks that Utah will participate with the PAC
in basketball? And who thinks the Utes will compete against the PAC
in football, USC, UCLA, etc. with their tiny fild that was paid for with Olympic
money? What Utah Fan wants to get real in this discussion...???The Utah footprint is BYU's footprint. And BYU owns
that....The PAC would have drawn more viewers watching BYU football
than Utah football...And, really, Utah basketball? Give me a break.
Really, fans want to watch Boylen's JC transfers lose to Oral Roberts, and
SWBU?Henry Wallbanger, take another sip, Utah in the Pac is a joke,
and Larry Scott is your Don Rickles...It's purely based upon a
religon, and Utah will be the joke of the PAC...Tell me why I am
@ Sportsfan:Dust off the DVD of the New Mexico Bowl, it's on your
shelf right next to your home video of the Provo Airport celebration for the BYU
vs. U of O game, and you will see at least three examples of unsportsmanlike
conduct by your beloved cougars on the field during the game. From
what I heard the Utes & Broncos were just exchanging holiday greetings at
the Hard Rock yesterday. Broken dishes and tables are nothing new for the Hard
Rock Cafe management. Verbal sparring matches are time honored traditions at
Wasn't Gary the architect behind the defense that held Boise St to 36 pts at
Rice Eccles in 2006 (the game we lost 36-3)?Doesn't look like he's
figured anything out as the Aggie coach either. Why did you write this article
Brad? Are you going to do the next feature on Andy Ludwig and how he knows just
what to do offensively to upset the Bronco defense (he was the architect of our
3 pt scoring burst in the 2006 game)? Thanks for wasting my time
MAFUFrom what I've heard, the Utes were trying to act tough, but
when the Broncos started beating the tar out of them, Whit took the Utes back to
the hotel so they wouldn't get hurt anymore.Unfortunately for the
Utes, Whit won't be able to do that once the game starts.
@Veritas Aequitas Wow, jealous much? Typical zoob, upset that his team
didn't get invited to the big kids table.
@Wallbanger, keep banging your head against that wall, maybe it will knock some
sense into you. The Utes share of the big kids table money amounts to less than
scraps for my dog their first few years. Your just trying to keep a stiff upper
lip and take your lumps, while BYU gets the whole pie for themselves. What are
the plans for all that revenue you are not going to see for five years, add a
dozen more bleachers in the nosebleed section? Got to have room for the mob that
is going to watch USC and Oregon come to town and pick their teeth with you
bones. It is going to be ugly.
@ Hailstorm, it is good that you have never made any comments on a BYU article,
so you can cast the first stone.
You all have it wrong on the Hardrock fight, a Boise State player threw a plate
at Brandon Burton and he blocked it.
"the big kids table"?You misread the tea leaves
wallbanger. The Utes didn't get invited to the big kids table; they
got invited to dinner, but are still sitting at the rickety card table, with the
paper plate and plastic ware.Zip, nada, zilch in $$$ from the PAC
the first year. A grudging 50% the 2nd year. 75% the 3rd year. The Utes won't
get a big kids portion for four years. The Utes are simply fillers, a
warm body to give the PAC 12 teams so they can have a conference championship
game. The new Arizona of the PAC; 30 years in the PAC and still no conference
championship or Rose Bowl.

UC Aggie - I hope you don't do your own accounting, bounced any checks lately?
Those numbers don't add up for Utah, face the facts, adding Colorado and Utah
did nothing to help a new PAC 12 TV deal, and the pac has not been showing up in
bowls to well lately, except for the conf. winner. Good luck getting close to
those figures, and of course you low-balled the BYU numbers being the troll that
you are. After splitting the pie 12 ways, it won't look as ROSE-y as you are
hoping it will. Be ready for the liberal Cali. schools to demand that you change
you mascot to something that looks like a mouse and to call yourselves the
"rodents.". In truth that is how they look at you anyway.

school where the mascot (actually its the bands) is a tree, they have little
credibility. The Ute Tribe have given their consent so lets negate
that pipe dream. I wonder though how the PETA/Sierra Club crowd
feels about the mascots for UW, Ore St, Cal, UCLA, Oregon, Wazzu & UAz
mascots. Further, what about the religious right and Az St Mascot?
@ Wally, Wardu is sorry if he offended you about changing the mascot. He started
to rant at the end of the post, and he thinks you missed the point. He does not
want the Utes to change their name ever, and is flattered that you were willing
to quote him in your post. That was a first. He hopes you will avoid the the
urge in your future posts to gravitate to the obvious, unless you are willing to
change your display name to Captain O. Writing in the third person is really
Although a life-long Cougar, I will be rooting for the Utes to take care of
business against BSU. And I would never lay money against Coach Whitt-who always
seems to maximize his team's preparation and effort and just read where Utah
maxed out its pre-bowl practices while Boise only used about 2/3 of theirs. Also, a quick question of the editors: why did you crop the picture of
the coaches? The original pic contained pictures of four people total-two much
more beautiful than Whitt and Peterson. Yes, I know that this is a family
paper...Predict that Cain is truly prepared and the Utes win a
squeaker 44-42 and continue their amazing bowl winning streak. Enjoy Utah fans
as this will probably be your last bowl game for several years.
