Glad to see Okur back. I do not expect great things until maybe the play offs.
Okur is a team player. He also has the respect of the team and fans
and does not have Boozer messing with his rebounding, shooting and defense. He should gradually improve. However, the team should not expect him to
be at his best this year. He will need time to adapt. Even if Okur
can hit 3s he will not be able to replace the 3 point shooting that should be
coming from the wings. The Jazz need to make an in season move and
get at least one consistent 3 point shooter who can also defend. They have trade
exemptions. It is a similar situation to the year Korver was
acquired except the Jazz have a much better overall team this year. Sloan is apposed to 3 point misses as that starts the fast break against the
out of position Jazz. Give him consistent 3 point makers and he will
use them. KOC/Miller have to go get at least 1 perimeter wing who
can consistently hit from the outside. That will make the Jazz
The Jazz brain trust are betting the season on 3 risky propositions. 1. That AK will stay healthy all season especially at playoff time. 2. That Hayward will emerge this year and turn into a great outside
shooter/defender. 3. Okur will return to better than ever in both
shooting and rebounding. The 2 glaring weaknesses in this team are
perimeter shooting and rebounding. For the Jazz to contend they have
to have better perimeter shooting. Bell is good for short amounts of
time but can't be run into the ground with too many minutes. Hayward
has yet to blossom. CJ is erratic as usual. AK is pretty consistent
but never was a great outside shot. Further, at this stage he should not be run
into the ground with minutes. Okur can help but he is not a
replacement for Korver. The Jazz HAVE to have Wings Who Can Shoot. If the wings can't shoot it negates the whole Sloan system. Sloan
hates wings who miss but refuses to get Wings Who Can Shoot. KOC/Miller need to save the Jazz and Sloan from the Sloan biases. Give us a Zone Breaker.
Korver had the best season shooting percentage from three in NBA history,
Matthews had a nice three stroke...Jazz kept cj instead!
"That's the only way you get a chance to get better" said Jerry
(above) of playing time.Jerry, we all wish you would apply this
principle to Fes and the two rookies.
A few years ago Okur said he its a goal of his to get him jersey in the rafters
of the ESA. I sure hope he makes it. He obviously hasn't earned it yet and
last year was a rough one for him, but I still believe in Okur. @Iowa. Sloan gives Fesenko minutes and he can't handle them. He's huffn and
puffn after 10 minutes on the floor. Whats a coach to do?
