Could Utah's Kyle Whittingham be his replacement?
Whit would be a natural pick and the best candidate available.I
think he'll be loyal and tell them no thanks though.
Peterson out of BSU may get a look.
Dan Mullen will be wearing the visor in Gainesville next year.
Where is Urban heading to? Where do you go after Florida, the SEC, and the
pinnacle of college football? He passed on Notre Dame once before, and they
just got a new guy.Is Urban going NFL?
My goodness. I hope Urban does not do a Michael Jordan or Brett Favre and keep
retiring only to come back......
Any 24/7 job will take its toll. ahhh, winning, winning, winning. At what
Urban can never go to the NFLway to dictatorial in his styleif he treated
professionals the way he treated the college playersthere would be insurrection
Maybe Utah can get Urban to come and coach their basketball team.
Dan Mullen (Mississippi State), Kyle Whittingham (Utah), Chris Petersen (Boise
State) would all be good choices, however, my bet's on Mullen for the job.For Florida, Dan is a known commodity and could step in to the position
and they wouldn't miss a beat. Bring anyone else in and Florida would likely
suffer another down year as the team adjusts to a new coach's offensive and
Florida should go after Cris B.
Yah, and Brett Favre announced his retirement again as well!! I'll believe this
when I see it. He seemed to do fine with his "heart ailment" &
"health issues" last this year after announcing his
"resignation". Too much time between now and the Outback Bowl. But,
IF, in fact, he is leaving, I'll put my money on Mullen!
Florida would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and Whittingham would be
foolish to turn it down if he's offered the job.$4 to $5 million per
year in a state with no personal income tax.The hang up with
Tennessee was Whit couldn't bring his own assistants with him.If
Florida allows him to choose his own staff, the decision would be a
no-brainer.Utah's football future may be hanging by a thread with no
starting QB and now possibly an entirely new coaching staff.
My guess is that we'll see him on ESPN. I think he's wise to step down while
he's still (relatively close to being) on top. The program in Florida has lost
some steam and I think his record would suffer further if he were to remain.
Props to him for focusing on his family. I don't know if Florida is
eying Coach Whit or not, but I've heard he may be in consideration for the Miami
position. My guess is that he'll stay with Utah for at least 1 or 2 more
seasons. After that, who knows?
Bronco Mendenhall is a lock for this job. And Maxie Pad will retire to become
the offensive coordinator. Mark my words, it'll happen.
The school President of Florida used to be the President of Utah. Kyle will get
the call or the coach from Mississippi State. Urban will wait one year before
headed back to Notre Dame. I believe that Kyle will remain loyal. Less stress,
better place to live, a million is a lot of cash already. Already heading to a
power conference and will eventually earn more cash. Utah is now a coveted
football coaching position.
Money in the bank...kick back and enjoy life. Why does someone always have to
take something better than the job they are leaving? I love Scott Mitchell at
Springville. We need more guys like that willing to coach at that level. Urban
would be a great high school coach!
I'm betting that Coach Whit stays at Utah. I read a story a few days back that
he turned down the Vanderbilt job.Urban should come back as the OC,
that would be legit. Hope he enjoys time with his family and remains free of any
major health concerns.
Good point doughnutboy.Maybe its game-over for Urban. Lots of folks
retire early after being workaholics or road warriors. Put in your 20 and get
out of the game.
Urban always takes care of Urban. A little R & R, sorting out options he has
been thinking about for awhile and then a jump to more $,prestige and control.
Its all about timing for him. He's at the center of the football world and it
revolves around him. My guess he ends up in the NFL somewhere with a killer deal
after some TV analyst time. Put $ on it!
I wish Urban well where ever he goes or whatever he does. Us Utah fans owe him
quite a bit of thanks for turning around our program.
Meyer has his head and heart in the right place. Obviously something is wrong -
health or family or both - and he is simply taking care of his priorities before
its too late.
Too bad, So sad. No Tim, No Win. Urban gone, Ernesto
done. Meyer Bye-Bye's, Pedraz Cries!
i don't think coach whittingham would take the florida job. going into that
program at this time is like someone throwing a briefcase of $5 million dollars
into a pack of hungry wolves and telling you to go get it. he's already turned
down big bucks in the SEC twice.
Coach Wittingham would be a perfect fit in Gainsville. I am sure the AD and
President have him at the top of their short list. I am not sure what Kyle's
personal/professional goals are but if getting the chance to take a top level
SEC program is in his career path, the Florida opportunity is perfect. The
monetary opportunity will be a huge increase not too mention great facilities,
great recruiting and the ability to coach and compete in the best conference on
football. If you get the chance Coach Wittingham, jump to the SEC.
When was the sec considered the best conference?
Whittingham isn't going anywhere because he will never be offered that job not
because he would turn it down. I fully expect him to release a statement in the
next couple of days that says he is "taking myself out of
consideration" which basicly means he has no chance to get the job and
wants to try to pre-emptively save face. And kamute utah IS NOT a
"coveted football coaching position" by anyone but small time coaches
looking for a stepping stone. That is what meyer was when he took it and that is
what whittingham was as well. No one is "coveting" that job LOL
"The season ended with an embarrassing 31-7 victory to Florida State,
Meyer's first loss to the rival Seminoles."FSU might be bad, but I
wouldn't think a 31-7 "victory" over them would be considered
If Florida invites Whittingham and he accepts, who will replace him? The
chances are that whover replaces him won't be as good, or won't do as good of a
job with that team.Whether or not Whit goes, I really don't know.
$5 million is a lot of money, and money speaks pretty loudly.
Whit's next job will be in the NFL. Mullen or Spurrier would be offered prior to
Whit. If by chance he does leave, Utah would look at Petersen,
Hoke, Gary Anbdersen or Mike Mccoy who is the OC for the Denver Broncos.
You all don't get it! :) The return of Steve Spurrier is eminent!
Thank you, Urban, for what you did for Utah football.Enjoy the time
with your family.
St. Urban the 1st walking away. Who would have thought?
I suspect we'll see Urban coaching again, but it will be in a situation where
the expectations aren't as sky high as the Florida job.
I Don't see coach Whit jumping. He's turned down jobs before and next year the
Utes will be in the PAC 12 with all the rights and privileges that come with
being in an AQ conference. He will do what's best for he and his
family though. It would be hard to handle as a Ute fan for sure if he was
offered and took the the job, but understandable.
I thought last time Urban left a job that he was going to go play catch with his
kid. Guessing that didn't happen.

Rodriguez is cannned in Ann Arbor that is where Urban coaches next.It was one of his 3 dream gigs.
Guaranteed he coaches for the Bronco's next year where his son Tebow is playing.
It's all about family he says....

Coach Whit won't leave. But Chris Hill may have to open the check again.
I just read the article about Joe Cravens. Urban Meyer needs to have a long
talk with him about what is really important in life.He might also
want to talk to Lavell Edwards and Bronco Mendenhall about keeping real balance
in his life. Truth be told, were it not for Coach Edwards' success at BYU in
elevating the WAC and his reputation on the national front, Urban Meyer would
never have taken the Utah job.
