I think that this award in 5A was Havey Langi's all year (and Langi was possibly
en route to Mr. Football). But you have a "situation" and that kind
of tarnishes your reputation. I think the DN did a good job in giving these
awards to Kuresa, Cantwell, and Fakahafua. I don't follow 1A-3A so I won't
I could not agree more with the previous comment. While Langi's achievements are
impressive, his off-field actions tarnished his image in the eyes of the DN and
public, and those chosen (as far as we know it) are extremely deserving.Congratulations...to Kuresa... you are the most amazing overall
athlete I have had the priviliege of watching in MANY Years;to Cantwell...
you WILL get a football offer--I GUARANTEE it;to Fakahafua... you have
truly proven your worth as a football player and team mate;to Cassita... a
true football stud who would have been a STAR at ANY level;to Shumway...
you continued a masterful tradition at San Juan that will be hard to
duplicate;to Marett... you have been an true pleasure to watch and we all
have been inspired by your work ethic. To all of you: Treasure these
moments and keep up the great work, and the opportunities will abound in sports,
education, career and LIFE!
Congratulations to all these young men, and to the teams who supported them.
They exemplify what can happen when people step up and accept leadership
positions; as they progress, they pull their team with them while at the same
time, the team helps push the leader to his best, too.And behind all of
them is the person who manages year after year to pull more out of young men
than the young men thought they were capable of- the coach. To those who hold
the most thankless job of all, thank you for what you do.Congratulations
to all these athletes for striving to be the best they can. Our world is in
great need of men (and women) of character, and I know you'll all find success
as you develop your talents in the future. Special thanks to Coach Peck-
glad to see you enjoy this with your boys. Your instincts were correct, and I'm
glad you stuck to your decisions. You did it right. Congratulations.
Congrats Taylor Cassita! You had a heck of a year at LB. You deserve the MVP,
keep up the good work! I'm sure many of the players you "lite" up
agree you should be the MVP as well. Great hits out there!
Congrtulations boys! All that hard work has paid off.
Black & White and EMer had it spot on. HS Athletics have the purpose to
build character, to help young men and women develop into mature adults. When
an athlete doesn't demonstrate what he has learned on a football field as a
young adult among friends he shouldn't be rewarded.Hope Mr. Cantwell
hasn't played his last football game, and I don't mean a all-star game in June.
It's been long enough after the 4A championship game to analyze a little. So
here's the question: Why did Fakahufua not get jammed when he was coming off
the line each time. That would slow him up and throw off or delay the pass
play. And it is not illegal. But it looked to me, the defenders were always 5
yards off, and sometimes 10. They were making it easy for the qback to throw to
him. What am I missing?
i really think Tipa Vaisigano should have gotten 5A MVP cuz he lead West to a
winning record in which they havent had in about 10 also he was the states top
sherlock holmes..i wouldn't want to jam a guy who can bench 4 plates. he would
just throw me to the ground.Good Job Nate goodluck at the U
2-12whs:5A MVP went to the most deserving kid in the state. The
unquestioned leader of the best team this year. While Tipa and West did have a
good year, they did not make much noise in the postseason. That is where MVPs
really shine. Cantwell played exceptionally well in the playoffs and had a great
year overall. Tipa is a fine running back but this year belonged to Bingham
well if Tipa aint 5A MVP well atleast he should have made first team ha! but oh
well.. this was a pretty exciting year! hopin next year WEST makes an impact
bacause the 2012 west sophomore team had a record of 8-2 and the 2013 was 6-4 so
im pretty excited to see wat they can do as varsity players
