This was against LAC,NJ,SAC etc. I did not see SA, LAL, OKC, NO, MIA, ORL or
ATL on the list. Utah is still very weak in shot blocking. Fes and
Elson should be better at it. AJ is an improvement over Boozer. However, the overall defense is much better than last year. AJ was not
supposed to be a good defender but with Boozer and Okur out of the line up at
the same time the Jazz have really improved. It will be interesting
to see if Okur's defense is better when he comes back. Utah has a
chance at going deep in the play offs mainly because they have a defense this
year. Also they should get better over the year on both offense and defense. They should win most of their games in Dec. It is heartening
to see this team win on the road and in back to backs. The personality of this
team has changed night and day. It may not be fair to blame all of
the difference on Boozer but that has to be a major factor. Sloan is
not dependent on kissing up to Boozer and it shows.
Having Jefferson and Elson is much better than Memo and Booz in the paint! This
is fun!Watson is also a great addition...AK 47 is playing like like
a man that wants a contract.
Earl Watson swatted Earl Boykins and saved the ball into
bounds.......also......6 boards, 7 assists, 1 block, 2 steals & 12 points
with +20 on the +/-. Earl Watson is really having a nice effect on the Utah
Jazz right now and is likely the best backup point guard since Ricky Green and
John Stockton were playing together.Elson is also a very nice peice.
He is contributing and competing very nicely. He can rebound, defend and put
the ball inside of the hoop.Jefferson is just as good as Booz on O
but much much better on D and he will play with pain. He will not be out 4-6
weeks here and there throughout the year...he wants to be on the floor.
You have to give credit where credit is due and a lot of it goes to Kevin
O'Connor. He did a great job of assembling this team. From refusing
to overpay Fes and signing Elson and Watson to trading for AJ he did an amazing
job this past summer. I'm still not sold on Hayward but Evans looks great and
we'll see in a couple years about those two.The Jazz defense is 10X
what it was last year. Bugoff nailed it on the head with that one, Okur and
Boozer at the same time was a disaster. AJ and Millsap are much better. AJ is
improving his defense as well as his rebounding and I expect him to continue to
get better.Elson plays great defense off the bench. He shut down
Griffin in the second half the other day and he can actually contribute on
offense unlike Fes. Even Fes can come in and alter some shots. It nevers hurts
to have another big body with 6 fouls come playoff time.I really
like this teams chances to advance in the playoffs. I think winning on the road
is a sign of good things.
AK had a 4 x 4 game. Makes me nostalgic for the early years of his career when
he was producing 5 x 5's. Just keep it up, Andrei . . . . This is the kind of
diverse performance we will need in the playoffs!
Nice comments gentlemen.Bugoff, it's good to hear from you again. I
have always enjoyed your rational and agree the defense is greatly improved.
Apparently the guys who call the shots didn't the the Boozer, Okur combo
defending the paint either, since most of the moves during the off season have
been about improving defensively.Doctor J, yes this Watson is
showing us some pretty good stuff here latetly. I thought the block and the
diving save to tip it back inbounds to D Will is one of the best defensive plays
I've seen in awhile.Iowa Jazz Fan 2, A K is reacting to the ball
again, he's really going after it. If this keeps up we could maybe see a 5x5
again. Wouldn't that be sweet.Jefferson is a very large improvement
over what's his name. It's like a breath of fresh air for all of us, especially
the team I am sure.
Was Brandon Burton in on the block party?
When the Jazz move the Ball on offense, good things happen. When guys play hard
and go after loose balls and rebound and play hard nose defense, we win. This
Jazz team is getting better every game and starting to look like a team that
should make a deep playoff run. Right now D-Will is playing like an MVP and
Sloan is coaching like Coach of the year.KEEP WORKING HARD!GO JAZZ!!
i agree with all of you, could not stand watching last years team play defense.
RE: Kyle loves BYU/Jazz | 9:26 a.mCan we also give oconnor credit
for his drafting, only 2 fiyst rounders still with team in last
decade, and three if you go back twelve years: dwill
ak, and haywardsnd basically the same for second round, for all the
talk,cj, milsap and fez, yeah he should get credit for
that too.while all the past championship teams have starting lineups
and then some of fist round picks.WHile we are giving credit to
oconnner, can we give him credit for getting NOTHING for mo
williams, sasha pavolvic, deshawn stevenson, anderson, brewer, humphries,
humphrey, snyder, borchardt, scott padgett, quincy lewis, raul lopez, nazr
mohammed, vaughn, collins, almonds, maynor...and the season isn't
over, and the jazz haven't won anything yet.
re: JazzsmackSo you think O'Connor didn't do a good job huh? I get
the feeling you're a real negative person, but thats your right. How
many of the Jazz picks have been lottery picks?? Who did you want him to draft?
Durrant? Oh wait the highest draft pick we've had was DWill and they definitely
made the right pick there. They traded up to get him and that was the right
move.It seems like you want to bash the Jazz for finding talent late
in the draft, but I'm perfectly happy with players like Millsap. If you only
like players who came into the NBA with a lot of hype I guess thats your right
too. Every GM makes bad decisions, even Sam Presti and RC Buford.
AK's game improved mostly because he doesn't need to cover 2 matadors defensive
miss. When you protecting somebody's behind all the time it's frustrating and
tend to loose intense of the game. When team needed him Ak always showed up. If
team have large lead he could disappear. GO AK
Bugoff, likewise it is great to see your words again, I have asked about you,
Jazzsmack and I usually agree. However, what happened in the past negative or
not is over, and cannot be changed. As a result, it is to focus on this
exciting 2010-2011 Jazz version...I do not care who is responsible for these
acquisitions, even though Kevin is. However, Watson and Elson small moves have
proven exceptional. The Jazz have improved the backup point position, even
better than ever and I thought we had the best points last year composite.Backup Center-Elson has given quality minutes, tomorrow will be a big
challenge because the Pacers who won again tonight are very tall. 4 guys are
6'8 and taller in the Starting Lineup, Dunleavy can be a great 3 point shooter
but has struggled at 34 percent. Granger is a quiet superstar where in a big
market would be hyped like a Carmello or Bosh.Rush and Granger and
Collison can nail 3s. I am concerned the last 2 games on our 3 point defense.
This will be a tough one but looking forward to the challenge and we have to run
This team is incredible! I can't wait to see what happens against Indiana - I
see Al Jefferson dominating against Hibbard. Fransisco should match up well
against him as well. I just hope the Jazz don't get overconfident. Danny
Granger can be a leathel shooter - I'd love to see him get shut down. Go Jazz!
