What bothers me about cash buys is that too many stores unjustly won't accept
checks. The same security is available for checking accounts as there are for
debit and credit cards and its even cheaper for retailers to use yet there is a
lot of discrimination. Every other form of payment other than actual cash is in
the form of borrowing and lending fees for retailers and consumers.People trying to get out of debt have stopped using debit and credit cards
completely. At least a checking account is required for most job and federal or
state income direct deposits yet they get too much discrimination. Check verification is just as safe and efficient as credit and debit cards and
it is unfair we cannot get the same service. How I look at this discrimination
is it saves me money because I can't spend it, and I shop elsewhere. The real benefit of check spending is the paper trail it leaves and ease of
accounting for the consumers. Debit and credit card spending can take days to
register in a bank balance and too often it leads to excessive bank fees for
consumer errors in spending.
I'm writing this from the line in front of Best Buy. It's cold out here. I am
waiting to buy a Zune.Wait, Zunes are already available? Never
mind, I'm going home.
