That would also include the special interest groups who gave vastly more sums of
money to Matheson than to Philpot, no?And, in other states, to Reid,
Boxer, Frank, et al?Just checking, for consistency's sake. The person who doesn't understand that BOTH of our parties are corrupted by
special interest money - from private corporations to public sector unions to
extremists ideological organizations on both the left and right - is truly an
If money is the deciding factor in campaigns why didn't Meg Whitman and Carly
Fiorina win in California? They both outspent their competitors.
Why is it that candidates, Republican or Democrat, think that they are more
important than principles? Utah is a conservative state. The people are
conservative. The people have high expectations of themselves and of their
leaders. Promising a chicken in every pot and a new car in every
garage is political pandering; yet, that is exactly what many of the candidates
try to do. They tell us that they, and government, can solve all of our
problems, if we will just elect them to office. They tell us that only the
"rich guy" will have to pay for those services, that the good, hard working,
average Joe should get what he is not willing to pay for at the expense of those
who were willing to work harder. It is no wonder that Utahns have
rejected candidates who sing that song. It is contrary to the ethics and the
principles of the people of Utah. Foolish people think that glib words can
replace principles. Foolish people think that putting a pretty face on
governmental control of our lives will make loss of liberty acceptable. The people of Utah will not be fooled by false ideas.
It didn't help that the Citizens United ruling by the supreme court allowed
corporations/unions and private groups to basically donate whatever they wanted,
leading to lots of groups working in the shadows where upwards of 90% of their
money came from a few billionaires or their records are completely secret as to
who is even backing them.
Where did Philpot get all his money? Couldn't have been 2nd district.
