its going to be a long season for the jazz...if in decemeber they still arent in
the groove...we'll just hope for the best...at least next year we get Tomic...
Last year the Jazz got off to a rough start and a lot of people wrote them off.
I'm not about to give up on this team this early in the season. They've played
two of the top teams in the west and have been outplayed. Warrick just killed
the Jazz by blocking their shots, rebounding, and scoring. Deron didn't shoot
the ball well and was out of rhythm going to the free throw line a lot. Milsap
and Jefferson did well and they did put Robin Lopez in foul trouble. Their
guard players outplayed ours tonight. CJ was blocked by Warrick several times.
We've got to somehow get around shotblockers.
What a great game, I just loved and I could of had tickets, but I passed them
up, bad on my part but it was just awesome seeing the Spazz lose at home on
opening night, keep it up spazz and I may just love you more ... But good job
PHO, You gotta love it BABY!!!
atta boys CJ and AK. way to pull through for us again.
Maybe they should have taken Diaw for AK. Now AK will stink it up all season and
have zero trade value. CJ belongs in the D-league or overseas. One dimensional
players don't cut it in the NBA. Look at Almond. That's where CJ is headed.
Bell is showing his age. The Jazz will be stuck with his contract for three
years. Here's hoping Hayward and Evans blossom.
Disinterested, only word I can think of.Denver and the Suns are not the best of
the west. It`s early yes but so far so bad.Bench...no shows,Oak City next,YIKES
Catch a BIG wake up gentlemen. If I performed so badly in my job, I would have
received a formal warning by now!
Ugh. Confused, timid and indecisive are the three words that come to mind. I'll
cut them some slack offensively as the new players get acclimated. What I can't
abide is all those first-half layups they gave up. Richardson's dunk right
before halftime was inexcusable. My high school coach's head would have exploded
and we'd have been running lines at halftime.
The problem is the bench. We're really missing Korver's and Okur's ability to
stretch the floor. Hayward shoots a terrible percentage from the field. Watson
has been horrible. A combo of Watson, Hayward, CJ, and Fes on the floor at the
same time really blows. I say start Fes and bring Millsap off the bench. Hate
to do it to Paul, but we need something in that second unit.
It's all about chemistry...it will take some time like it or not...Go jAZZ!
If the Jazz refuse to trade AK, and get value while they still can, than bring
him off the bench to play the 4. I would start Hayward. CJ is just horrible. I
wish the Jazz would trade AK. Even if AK puts up good numbers, his expiring
contract could bring in a draft pick or perimeter defensive player.
It will take some time for these guys to get used to playing together. Replacing
key players in a JS offense and then seeing a flawless product will take a month
or more. Just hope they can win a few along the way. What I dont like
is when Deron goes 0 for 5 with 3 points and 1 assist in the first half and then
yells at his teammates when they make a mistake. Deron needs to
chill. Not everybody is going to run the plays to perfection at this point in
the season. What Deron SHOULD be doing is leading by example instead of leading
by "do as I say, not as I do." I think they will get it together
eventually but during this process of learning for multiple players, Deron needs
to be a little more patient.
It's only two games, no need to get to upset. I will say watching D-Will go
after Hayward late in the game was a little disturbing, no need to publicly
embarrass a rookie in a game where no player had a great game.
Stubborness and Denial...Sloan and his "sloanaholics" not one time
mention, the usual problem..Giving up "3s'. It is clear to me that the Jazz
looked like a tired team from the night before. I am not saying anyone dogged
it. But if you are not getting back on defense, and are leadfooted like our
front court looked, then bench or put in Evans. For all of you that
say it is "early", hogwash. After 10 games, we should be further ahead in terms
of chemistry, Paul saying that I would not have admitted to the media.Have to remember, Ok city, Portland and Denver makes this a vicious division.
If the Jazz cannot do better than (5-5) after 10 games, we will be playing heavy
catchup (beyond 2 game deficit) all season."Jer and the Holics" also
have to realize he needs to cut rotation and define roles.DWIL
should call out the vets not so much a rook who tries and made innocent
mistake.AK numbers are meaningless. He hits one shot
for 3, he still cannot finish. That is one reason he scored 19 points with all
the free throws.
hey but they were undefeated in preseason.
Someone needs to hit a shot eventually. Jazz have absolutely no guard scoring
Elson could help but playing 5 minutes is meaningless. I would go to 10 man
rotation, and go with Price for now as DWIL backup....Maybe Earl is intimidated
of Sloan or not allowed much freedom. Earl is not playing the fierce driving,
ratty pest on defense he did with the Sonics. If he is not allowed to
play "his game" then there is no point for him to play.I wanted Earl
Watson for Earl Watson not Brevin Knight. The Jazz need to cut to 10
man rotation. It is not good Evans who has a better production in preseason and
Denver per minutes played, should not have come in. Fes should have come in
also, especially when Phoenix started to pull away after we cut down to 6.I am sick of no ones like Harrick like Williams the night before come in
and humiliate the Jazz with energy and outhustling our bigger guysHow many times are you not guarding the 3? Raja is the only player on this
roster that knows to close a gap and rotate...Why does Sloan leave
Frye open time after time, when he just sits in his favorite spot waiting?Holics?
Is this a story from last season or this season? I can't tell.
We are missing Memo's ability to spread out the defense.I'm tired of
CJ's and AK's inconsistency.
The Jazz are not moving with out the ball. They are not setting picks and
screens. They are not hitting easy baskets. They are hesitating and not playing
in any sort of rhythm. No chemistry at all. The loyalty the Jazz are showing
AK"Our highest paid and longest tendered player", is undeserving at this point.
CJ has been awful. This line up coach Sloan has going is awful. Trade AK for a
perimeter player! I think the 2 guard is a weak spot. If the Jazz trade AK, I
wont complain one bit.
Naysayers please settle down. Phoenix won with 3 pointers and they are very
good at shooting the three. Ever heard of live by the 3 die by the three.
Before seasons end the Jazz will have established themselves and the Suns will
be a 7-8 seed at best.Jazz look a bit confused still but they showed
some improvement. For those slamming AK give it up. Guy had 19pts, 4 assists,
2 steals, and a block and you want to slam him. D-will and the front court got
hammered by Nash and Dragic as they cut at will driving for layups and fouls.
The slam on Hayward was also unjustified as he was a hustler out there. 6pts, 6
rebounds, 3 blocks, and a steal in 19 minutes.Against Phoenix and
Denver (smaller faster, athletic lineups) the Jazz have always struggled. I
would have liked to see us match that intensity with some play time for
Evans. Finally we really need Okir back. We have no 3pt shooters.
Miles is streaky at best.Bottom line is the Jazz have faced two
small athletic teams motivated to prove a point. As the season goes on they
will be fine.
After watching two games this team has serious issues on both defense and
offense. Jerry really needs to look at who is starting and who is coming off
the bench. The shooting percentage the first two games is way below average.
Way below. Will that come around? It should. But the defense has got
to be better. Here is where I see the problem on Offense. Boozer and
Memo played a whole different offensive game than Jefferson/Millsap play. For
that reason, the whole flow of the offense for Dwill is different than it has
been for the past 5 years. It may be possible that Jefferson and Millsap can't
play well together. AK and Hayward don't have to guarded on the perimeter.
Thus causing more congestion in the middle. CJ stinks right now. But he will
work through that. The problem with him is his basketball IQ is poor and he
can't adjust to the new look and feel on offense. If AK, CJ, Bell and Hayward
would make an outside shot, most of the problems would be solved with spreading
great start to the season
New season, new players, same old Jazz!
Last year the Jazz started out slow and the season turned out OK. I still have
much hope for the Jazz this season.
Dwill never comes ready to start a season. He is either injured or not in
playing condition, or just not focused the first few games of a new and very
long season. This year it is more pronounced because of the new players and
lack of time playing together which has always been very important for the Jazz
offense to function efficiently. Should start to get better after the first 40
games, and then graduate to a playoff caliber team (7-8 seed) by the end of the
season. Given the team lost its primary offensive player and a quality backup
from last year, what more could fans realistically expect?
Does anybody have a link to the video of deron yelling at hayward? I missed the
I can't believe so many are ragging on AK, AK isn't a very good shooter
but the rest of his game is usually better than most. Against Denver he didn't
do much but last night he played OK, he attacked the basket, got to the line and
scored pretty good. What he brings to the game very few players bring, we don't
need to trade AK.CJ is playing terrible, I don't know what to think about
him, he needs to realize that playing relaxed, nonchalant won't cut it. He has
got to come out with tenacity and fire or he needs to sit. CJ's defense is lazy,
he is late moving, reacting and keeping in good position and that leads to
reaching fouls.Hayward is young and has a lot to learn but he is smart,
hustles, works hard & plays pretty good D for a young rookie. He sees and reacts
well and gets himself in good position and tries to keep good defensive
position. I thought there were times Evans would have been a good choice
to match up with Warrick.Team defense, 3's,transition, were terrible.
I only saw the first half, but I have to say I liked how Hayward looked in the
open court. I think people have him pegged as a jump shooter, but he seems very
comfortable finishing on the break. Maybe as he gets physically stronger he can
use some of that as a half-court slasher. It's very, VERY early for the team and
for him, but I see him being a real player. Here's hoping.
As a Suns fan 1st and Jazz fan 2nd, I was relieved to beat Utah. Because after
losing Stat in a trade to NY, we have lost our primary scorer. We looked
awful in the pre-season.I think both teams are headed for a VERY mediocre
year. Not at the very bottom but.......
Re CJMiles: Again, I appreciate your comments, they are pretty much right on,
what is surprising is your honesty about how CJ is playing now. I agree CJ
should pull out of this but his inconsistency is a worry. He took 3/4 of the
year last year to pull out of his funk.I like how Hayward plays, his
shooting is a worry, but he too has shown to be a good shooter and he should
improve and correct that problem.I agree that CJ's basketball IQ isn't
that good, watching them play, Hayward's BB IQ is much higher. I love how
Hayward sees things and reacts and moves to be where he needs to be. He will
only get better too.If Evans can gain some confidence in his outside shot,
he would be a valuable player to get on the floor, he too plays smart and sees &
reacts timely. The Jazz's energy, intensity & fire are terrible, leading to
poor defense and poorly run offense, force shots, terrible shooting percentage.
Correcting these problems could take some time.
Jazz after 2 games (kind of)No defense, No Offense, very slow Get
prepared. This is going to be a LONG season
I'm not sure why anyone would peg Hayward to be a jump shooter. Hopefully, the
Jazz management didn't. I'm not sure he shot 45% from the field in college. He
was a tough player, a slasher and to his credit is able to create his shot off
the dribble. He isn't the prototypical white guy that is a spot up three-point
artist that can't drive to the hoop or play defense. But with that
said, the Spazz are in for a long year.
Miles,is that really you, you`re almost rational anyway I agree no good shooters
period. As much as mostly everyone wanted Boozer and Korver gone, they were both a
threat from outside. We REALLY need someone to pick up the slack, was hoping it
would be your boy but I don`t know,he seems to be going back to his old ways and
I think Matthews really pushed him last year.Losing Matthews,Korver and Boozer
plus Memo being out and replacing them with Jefferson and Bell...we`ll see
This was a bad loss. The suns didn't even looked that good. This was a
glorified pillow-fight and the Jazz got smashed. Am I the only one feeling
buyers remorse with Jefferson?
They are gonna be alright. I'm gonna be patient and see where they are at at ten
games.Remember six new guys and two rookies getting minutes it won't
happen overnight.I am happy that D-will and Hayward had a nice bonding moment
though :)Patience, Patience and more Patience...along with Effort,
Effort and more effort.
Houdini and Captain.......The Jazz are not going to shoot any worse going
forward. Bell and CJ will start hitting shots but my bigger concern is Dwill
Millsap and Jefferson getting it together. And if Hayward is going to play, he
needs to be a scoring threat from at least 20 feet. We have too many
non-scoring threats on this team to be effective. Price, Watson and Evans equal
zero outside shooting. Then you throw Hayward in the mix and the Jazz are not
going to put up enough points to win.
I'm sure CJ will start hitting his shots. He's a streak shooter. The question
is, will he learn to take smarter shots, play smart defense and become a better
rebounder? If he doesn't, he'll find himself in the D-league or overseas once
his contract us up. Being a one trick pony will only take you so far.
@todd....how is it sloan's fault that the players don't rotate on defense?????
You've been blaming sloan for that for years. Do you think he tells the team to
leave guys wide open??? Players need to execute, I thought we did much better
when Bell and Hayward in, those guys really are staying focused on D, and
staying in touch with the man the are guarding, the rest of the team not so
Another laugher. For those who say the Jazz Started slow last year and then had
a great season think that this year will be the same has their heads stuck in
the sand. The Jazz are going nowhere this season. If they make the playoffs,
they will be one lucky team. I think they will have a losing season. I gav up on
them when they lost Karl and John. Old school is gone and so are the Jazz.
Defense and offense starts with your leader! Where are you D-Will? I love you
D-Will, but quite frankly your effort stinks at times, just play with 100% and
when your winded let a sub give you a breather. For you to play without 100%
effort is setting the wrong example. Turn it on, not on and off. The others need
to do the same, this isn't about players recieving more money for more minutes,
it's about effort from everyone and when a blow is needed we have reserves that
can get that job done. Just play ball and "shut up"!
And another performance on and off the court by the self-proclaimed, "Best Point
Guard." Send him to Miami.
Deron has proved what an incapable leader he is. This team doesn't believe in
themselves and he is probably the biggest reason why. Everyone blamed Boozer
last season but he clearly didn't have as much to do with it. If Deron can't
lead, we will just be playoff contenders. OKC believe in themselves and they
appear to have real leadership.
