Wow. First to comment on this pitiful game. First off the Jazz came out as flat
as I have ever seen them. No emotion from the start. Ak looked absolutely
terrible, as did miles. I would like to see how the CJ lover on here reacts to
this. Big Al didnt impress one bit. This wasnt completely
unexpected, though. The Jazz are very young with lots of players still learning
the Sloan system. It will take a couple weeks for them to get fully adjusted.
Here is to a hopeful big win against Phoenix tmrw night..
Ugly game, looked terrrible, didn't even resemble the team that played in the
preseason. CJ stunk, Big Al looked lost, no energy or fire. The only
positive to take from this game was the play of the two rookies.
The starters came out as though they had already won the nortwestern division.
That pretty much sums this game up.
Kirlenko and Jefferson both underperformed and yes they did come out flat.
After doing so well in preseason I thought they'd have no problem with Denver.
It may have been that the Nuggets had a big emotional lift with George Carl
coaching again so I'm hoping this is a fluke. The Jazz will regroup tommorow
night against Phoenix at home. They did well against them in preseason so at
least they know what to expect and how they match up.
Amidst all the turnovers, miscues, and sluggish pace of the game, there were
glimpses of hope. Jeremy Evans continued to impress, and Hayward showed some
toughness and huslte once the glare from Melo's luminescence faded from his doey
eyes.I hate to admit it, but I just took a step of the AK bandwagon
- perhaps permanently. He may have a plethora of talent dispersed about the
court, but his play tonight was simply weak. His break away dish to the front
row seats instead of making a poster out of some hapless Nugs shows me that he
is more suited for sitting in some Euro cafe sipping cappuccino while discussing
classical literature with his hair stylist. The time may soon come
when he needs to take his talents and penchant for timid - er - unselfish play
back to Europe.Sorry AK, but I think the patience of your fan-base
is shrinking, at least by one, at least for a night.
Little to add that has not been said. This was a team loss in every sense of
the word, DWIL included.Sloan tried 12 players in the first half
which stunned me, but was trying I guess to find combos. Jefferson looked
awful, Denver defense had a lot to do with it early setting the tone. However,
it looked like the rims are tighter this year in Denver. Neither team shot
great, and I do not think Denver it was they were great, as much as we stunk. If you are down by 20 at half, and get little from Melo and JR,
that means others stepped up.Candace Parker's hubby Sheldon Williams
looked like all world tonight. Yes he had fouls but playing volleyball off
glass and played good defense. A journeyman folks with a career night...Nene bothered AJ.What shows you do not believe preseason. I
will not overreact one game, hope tomorrow on TV we get back the mojo. However are concerns, the Jazz did not get back on defense after misses.AJ was struggling vs NENE defense or anyone else/Sloan and
Jefferson need to continue to make adjustments because we need his impact
Kirilenko lovers:Looked like the recent last few years mostly
Kirilenko to me...The 18 million dollar albatrossCannot
hit a shot seemingly or make a pass, he was short as often as someone sooting a
77 in a round of golf..The guy "you all love"
I was at the game, talk about a disappointment. The only bright spot was
watching Evans and Hayward both play with fire. Hayward got posterized by Melo
the first matchup, but he kept fighting and showed a lot of hustle. I was not
at all impressed by Raja Bell, AK, AJ, or Miles ... none of them showed up.
well i knew this would happen...since there are a lot of new players...i think
we will have a very rough first part of the season...but at least there are
positives...i got Hayward on my fantasy team 16 teams h2h league....got 9 pts 5
rebs out of him....nice....hope he gets more minutes...and probably finish the
season with averages of 10pts 5 rebs 4 ast....
Inwas expecting a better team this year but I got the same ol' Jazz. We looked
horriable. No defense or inside game. So another 50ish season?? Hopefully we
can win at home and .500 on the road.
Pathetic! The starters were a joke. Defense?Nonexistent.I wonder if Booz will come back? The
veterans ought to be pretty ashamed after an effort like that.
Where is the CJ Miles bro?? whats your excuse for him CJ now?? he played like he
has alwayysss played. not good.
Whoa ... was that an ugly game! I almost stopped watching it. Only two
semi-bright points, Hayward and Evans.******Don't worry
Toddfromsantaana, if AK keeps playing like that he'll be gone by the trade
deadline.******As for CJ ...What can I say?It was just another ... shoot ... clank!shoot ... clank!shoot ... clank!Game.I still have hope though, that
the Jazz will put it all together in a few weeks.
Let me guess Sloany baby. They lacked enthusiasm and you dont know
why. Its not your job to motivate them and if they cant do it themselves they
shouldn't be in the league.Boring! Another mediocre season
I would be a jazz fan even if we lost most all the games. We are lucky to have a
major team in little ole utah, which i think is the best state. cheer up guys we
will win a championship someday as lakers are getting old and fisher the boss of
kobe is about shot and about to be a has been.
That was a BYU headline. "so much for a perfect season".All's lost now, I
guess if you don't win them all it isn't worth playing.
Are you kidding me? So what the heck happened from the pre-season to now? Come
If I were CJ, Raja Bell, Dwill, Ak, and Milsap or Big Al--I would donate last
nights pay to some worthy charity. They simply did not come to play. PS-The next
time I hear anyone talk about how great the Jazz are in the preseason, I'm going
to puke on their shoes.
Get used to the losing Spazz fans, what a game last night,I loved all the way to
Boozer beat Birdman and Kenyon Martin as well as the rest of the Nuggets in the
playoffs last year. He may not be as polite as Al Jefferson but man he could
take it to Denver.I was disappointed in many but Fesenko had some
good moments against Denver in the playoffs but last night was void of ability
to help the team.Hayward was open to cut many times on the weakside
last night but no cut and no pass to him. That should get cleared up in the
game review by the coaches.AK and CJ were the go to men last night
and so when they didn't show the wheels came off. CJ was out of breath last
night and maybe came back too soon from his injury. When AK shaves
each morning he has to stare at a weird hairdo and now his game is reflecting
that.Good thing was, it was nice to have Harpring as an announcer,
finally a semblance of knowledge from the television booth.Jazz can
only improve, otherwise suit up Jerry and he can show those guys what needs to
The ols saying is that if you can't say something good shut up, so I will. I
quit watching mid-3rd quarter, enough is enough.
Wow! What a terrible game. Games like this you just want to put on the shelf and
forget. Singling out one player on the team, for this performance is ridicules.
The player that SHOULD take this the hardest from an offensive stand point is
DWill, he just wasn't with it. He could not get the ball to anyone in a place
where they didn't have to create for themselves, in fact all the pg's were
equally bad. Let's hope they watch the tape and create better angles for
themselves.Where was the defense? I really hope we are not as slow as it
looked last night. Every(and I mean every) Denver player was able to get a step
on whomever was guarding them. Is all 13 of our guys THAT slow?Guess we
will find out tonight....here's hoping last night was the exception not the
Looks like Jefferson is the real deal. It's going to be a great season. Good
pickup in the off-season. I'm excited to see more scoring outbursts by this
remarkable specimen of an athlete. Early frontrunner for scoring title
contender. It was a great pleasure watching him tickle the twine, pouring in
the baskets. He is an offensive juggernaut. One of the best in the league, for
sure. The Jazz got a real steal with him. Let me be the first to say it: Utah
Jazz, 2011 NBA champs.
To the team...We often hear about players or entire teams having an "off
games" with no energy, focus, execution, etc.Consider this, If a surgeon
has an "off game", the patient may suffer serious harm or even death! If
one of our service men or women have an "off day" on the battle field, they
might not come home, worse yet maybe several of his comrades won't come home
either! If an airplane mechanic has an "off game" it could be an
un-speakable catastrophy!If a mixed martial artist isn't in condition,
isn't dedication to his strength training, etc. and has an "off game", his loss
is going to be REAL painful!!! You guys were OK'ed! I guess we have to be happy
you didn't Tap Out.
Correction on my post...The second to the last sentence should have read
"You guys were TKO'ed". At least I discovered my mistake and fixed it. Now you
guys do the same, please.
what is their record now?
First off, the leader of the team, Dwill did nothing to lead the team. He
looked average at best. No energy and when you could see the wheels coming off
early he didn't even try to score.Second, Price should never be on
the court. He runs around like a chicken with his head cut off. His shot looks
like a second graders. Watson didn't offer much more.Third, AK and
CJ didn't play in the first half due to cheap cheap calls guarding Melo. On top
of that, they both stunk.Fourth, Jefferson was below average on both
defense and offense. However I was impressed with Fes (at times) and
Hayward can't shoot but he can play. He impressed me more than anyone on the
team. Evans didn't look bad either. But the problem was with the second team,
there is no offense when Watson, Price, Hayward, Fes and Evans were on the
floor. At the end of the day, Dwill has got to play 10 times better
period and Jefferson needs to score in the post and start moving his slow feet
Why are you people so shocked? How long have you been following the Jazz?
These games happen ALL THE TIME!About twice a month the Jazz will
have a game where they completely melt down. Just be happy it happened against
the Nuggets and not the T'Wolves (a game they should win.)Don't
panic, this is gonna take some time. If we are still struggling at the end of
November, well... we still have that Matt Harpring trade exception.
I can only say, I pointed out to you folks that the Jazz are a run of the mill
team that will be holding on to the possibility of eeking out a #8 Western
Conference playoff spot again. That is if they can stay healthy. If they can't
then all bets are off. All you fair weather overly optimistic people who think
the Jazz have a shot at anything resembling a championship are delusional just
like the democrats in the upcoming election. Before the season exhibition games
are meaningless as to how teams will perform in the regular season and the
playoffs. When I saw that 144-106 Colorado (Denver) Arizona (Phoenix) blowout
by the Newguts (Nuggets) last week, a game in which the Newguts did not play any
of their starters, I knew the Jazz were in deep trouble. Again, the Jazz
absolutely do not match up with Colorado in any way. They are a work in
progress. All you had to do was take note of the glum faces of the players on
the sidelines to convince you of their lack of enthusiasm and hope of ever being
competitive in that game. No road hope this year.
2 words: buzz killeveryone needs to quit panicking, it was their
first game, haha! sky always falls with a loss eh?
This was to be expected. You can't lose half your lineup and bring new guys in
and expect them to get it in the first competitive game. It did not help either
like they acted like they had won the west either. Expect this team to
lose many game like this until Sloan can figure out a lineup that gels and the
new guys understand what they need to do and where they need to be offensively
and defensively. That being said expect this team to finish in the high forties
with wins because taking a month to get on the same page is a lot of games to
AK needs to come off the bench and play the 4! Start Hayward at the 3. Last
night was terrible!Clank!Clank! Whistle. Clank, clank, Whistle. I had much higher expectations for game one.Figure it out
Jazz. It is a long season, but it will seem even longer if you keep playing like
you did last night.GO JAZZ!!
I predict Evans will be a starter by the end of the season. He is far longer
and more athletic than AK or Miles. His outside shot can't be much worse than
theirs and he offers better defense. Sign this guy to a multi year now so we do
not lose him like we did Matthews. 11 pts in 11 min! And he was playin against
Melo for most of the 4th. Melo came out with 6 minutes left in the game.
Re CJMiles: Congratulations, very good realistic analysis of the game and the
players, (compared to your usual unrealistic comments), I agree with most of
what you said.I do believe Hayward will end up being a good shooter, CJ
struggled and was inconsistent for several years. CJ is showing signs of being
more consistent but still needs to prove consistency.Re Anonymous
Infinity: I'm as disappointed as anyone about last nights game but there is no
reason to be as negative or down on how well the Jazz will do this year, this
team has a lot of talent and just needs to put things together. With the
play of the rookies, the improved play of Fes, with Bell's steadiness and
leadership, Big Al is a proven scorer and rebounder and will come around, Watson
is calm and runs a team well, AK will be a force, to me he is the X factor, CJ
needs to come out with energy and focus and he should be fine. All in all
this team is very talented, has a nice mix of experience and youth and should
finish in the top 4 or 5 in the west.
I realize that it is a little late, but......Did anyone tell the Jazz that they
had a game last night?Hopefully they will find out before the next game,
when and where the game is, that way maybe they can show up.
No one on here has mentioned that the first half took 1 hour and 20 minutes, 44
fouls called, several Techincals, 4 replays to watch....I feel one
of the reasons that they Jazz did so poorly was the fact that they had no clue
that the officials would call the game so tight.. you know the beebee theory
right?Wow what a officiating crew. Yes the Jazz played
with no zeal or energy, the shot selection was bad, the defense was left in Salt
Lake City. But the officials killed any type of momentum...
This week the Lakers celebrated as NBA champions by hoisting another banner in
the rafters and passing out rings. We celebrated by being undefeated NBA
Pre-Season champions and treating ourselves to an A&W and an undeserving pat on
the back. Last night was one of the worst games I can remember since last
season. Our road mentality woes continues at the expense of the luxury tax.
Defense was non existent. There are more negatives in the box score than a
government budget report. All the hype led up to a 22 point drubbing.
First off Deseret News, only being able to post twice on a story has taken all
the fun out of being on here. Which by the way, makes no sense. You make money
on this site by Advertising dollars and the more hits the site receives the more
you can charge for advertising. You have taken away Todd's rambling on and on
about Sloan. Or being able to have a good debate about what went wrong last
night. Last year there would have been over 100 posts by now on this game. You
haven't even reached 50 by noon. Please allow unlimited comments. Bring back
the old Jazz.Tonight we will see if this team has pride or not.
Phoenix is not a very good team. I do like the idea of Heyward starting and
bring Millsap off the bench. He seems lost with Jefferson on the floor.
Exactly what I expected....a Jazz Bashing session. Sure the game was hard to
watch, but it is GAME 1 of 82, on the road, against a team they kicked out of
last years playoffs. Yes they should have played better, but there's no need to
sell all your Jazz stuff and cancel your cable t.v.! Give the team a chance to
gel together. Pre-season means nothing!! What I am worried about is Pace being
replaced by PK on the pre & post games. I hope that Pace was just out of
@ CJ Miles, Tx. I agree on the 2 post limit. Kills all the fun and debate. The
paper is church owned, so that explains everything. time to jump ship to the
trib looks like! Plus, they don't like all CAPS! GO JAZZ!!
@CJ: I agree with you.I have posted on this but it didn't show up. Was
completley clean and nice too. DN is way too touchy.
Nothing new here. The Jazz are not going to look pretty this season and anyone
who thinks they are has their heads stuck in a cloud somewhere. This will most
likely by one of the worst seasons the Jazz have in a long time.
D Will could not get the ball to anyone because they were not there, period.
Laggards all. The two kids (Rookies) were our only bright spot. Beat Denver's
talent....not this team. Who would expect them to be able to handle their
superstars who are always up for every game. DismaL performance to say the least
except for the Rookies. And, what is it with FEZ? We keep thinking he can, if he
will, play ball. AK has lost interest in the game. Trade him please. CJ, who is
he. He is an on and off player...very inconsistent. We have no inside game and
that can not be solved overnight. Even Boozer would make this bunch look good
and he is not that great either.
DWill was getting double teams before he could even get into the offense. He
wasn't able to create because Denver just forced the ball out of his hands. The
Jazz should have had an advantage if they could have just moved the ball quicker
because the Nuggets were out of position forcing Deron to pass way early. The
ball would go to the corner and sit.... and sit... and sit! Then we forced an
outside jumper.I'm not going to claim the sky is falling after one game
though. The Jazz will learn from this and play better tonight. There's no way
we're going to get THAT bad of a game out of AK, Miles, Bell and Jefferson. P.S. The Gordon Hayward love fest has got to stop. He's a defensive
liability. He had 9 points but didn't shoot the ball that well if you look at
percentage. Yea he played hard but some people are acting like the dude had a
Re: CJ Miles"Hayward can't shoot"What? He doesnt have
3-point range yet but he can shoot for sure. However, I do agree
with you about Millsap with Al. But hopefully those two can build a chemistry
and rhythm like he and Booz had--with great passing in the paint.
Too all the ak fans : he's slow, can't play defense, can't hit the side of a
barn, shows NO emotion, never gets pumped up, is the worst passer in the whole
league and can't even go up strong & throw it down...Plus he STILL put on NO
muscle mass & has the worst hair cut west of the Mississppi..Too bad KOC didn't
get ANYTHING for this waste last off season..ak is sooooo bad, KOC will get
NOTHING in return if ak is traded at deadline.I can't see any other team giving
this guy a 2 year contract after this year............
agreed with the only allowing two comments on every blog. what is the reason? i
really dont understand.
I agree, the two comments thing is totally lame! I'm even wasting my 2nd
comment to say how lame it really is.The Jazz will win tonight, and then
we've got a lot of tough road games coming up. I expect the Jazz to start out
pretty slow and then finish the season strong. I'm gonna say 53 wins just like
Preseason was fool's gold. This team may struggle for awhile. Big Al needs to
step up. AK needs to go. Diaw would have been a great option at this point.
D-Will needs to prove he's a leader and get the team on the same page.
Matthews, Korver & Brewer were a combined 4/18 0/5 on treys and -24 +/- last
night, and of course Boozer was less than nothing, tho at least Wes' team
won.Hate to panic, but really need this win tonight against a
struggling Phoenix team with OKC on the road Saturday and the Florida trip
looming. We could be 2-7 before blinking.C'mon Al, you can do
it!LOL at thinking Hayward or anyone not named Artest won't struggle
mightily when posted up by that ingrate-cancer Melo.
you guys are funny...blowing ONE game...out of proportion...i mean come on...it
was bound to happen...majority of the guys playing are new to the system...The
Jazz will most certainly have a rough start...pre-season is nothing compared to
the regular season...so stop comparing the 8-0 pre-season record to the 0-1
start...all of them were lost...they'll get their groove come december...they'll
probably start with a losing record...and hope that it would be a wake up call
for them...on paper the jazz team is good...its up to the players to play...im
still optimistic for utah getting at least 5th spot in the west...a lot of funny
people here blowing things out of proportion
