Go Cougs! Take the week off!
There is always an up side to the game. Keep tight and mean defense the rest of
this season depends on your play, the qb is not ready for prime time, so you
guy's gotta be Da Man !
Big Hapa, I always enjoy your positive and supportive comments for the team. I
disagree with you about the quarterback however. Let me explain what I see and
I would enjoy your observations. 1)Leadership: Jake seems to have won over his
veteran players. He should be able to call to task for failures and here is
where I see he may still be hesitant to call to task peers. But I don't see the
practices and hear his comments in games so I don't know. 2)Poise: I have seen
few freshmen in 30 years with as much stay in the pocket, no happy feet, calm as
Jake has shown. 3)Accuracy: Best measured not just by completions but by what
has been dropped too. 10 of 18 was not "great" add the 5 drops by his receivers
and his accuracy is 15-18=83.3% Freshmen are dropping most of these.
4)Distance:no one has outrun his distance yet. 5)Vision: Much improved, checking
off 6)Confidence:still good. 7)Mobility: Very few sacks due to standing around.
Biggest problem: Jake needs receivers making catches!
We need to varry the offense. If Heaps isn't ready try Lark or someone else. I
never thought I would see the day when BYU was a one dementional running
team...The second comming must be looming.
I agree with SLC Watch. If the offense (recievers) can take the lead
from the defense, and Anae can add a little unpredictability to his playcalling,
the season can be salvaged, and there will be plenty to build on for next
year.I hope they take the bye week and finish off strong. It will be
interesting to see the conference standings going into the Utah game.
If it wasn't for a hold on his longest return of the game, Hoffman would have
had even more special teams yards. I am excited to see him play in the next few
years. BYU does have some good young talent, and I am excited for BYU football
in the coming years.
Hey! I"m a Hawaiian living here in Texas. It's been one of those years. The
Longhorns, Cowboys, and Cougars have struggled. The Longhorns losing to Iowa
State was like BYU losing to Utah State. I know all three teams will be back.
Did'nt Notre Dame start the year with a new quarterback?--and they loss to Navy
who loss to Air Force?---Can anybody beat TCU?
