    This demonstrates being independent isn't dead and that football not only pays the bills but will make more money and pay more in the future.

    This would be a huge support in going Independent. Having an annual meeting with Texas could be a pivotal move to get BYU to an Independent Status, or even into the Big 12 eventually. Lets get this ball rolling.

    Good. Texas will get a chance to beat them really bad three times and not just once. Texas just got the number 1 running back in the nation and he will run all over BYU next season. Cant wait for the game in 2011.

    "Having an annual meeting with Texas"

    Hold up there, Sparky! It isn't an "annual" meeting with Texas. It is three games. There aren't that many "annual" series outside of conferences, except in-state rivalries, service academies and Notre Dame with a few schools.

    This is what BYU would want to do if they are going to try and leave the conference. I think they should go independent and that Utah should walk a way from the rivalry game. Woot to the PAC 12!

    Texas is always looking for the tune up game befoe it starts its real season against BCS programs. I've also heard Texas is close to signing up to a series against SW Missouri St.

    @warthog - That is what Oklahoma thought last year.

    @Hedgehog-Hey I'm a Utah fan too, but you gotta admit that we're just a tune up for Pitt. BYU is certainly just a tune up for Texas, but it won't be pretty opening up with Pitt.

    I am an Orangeblood, and very much look forward to the game next September. I think the last time these two teams met was in late 80s, if I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me. It would be a huge win for the BYU program, but I doubt it will happen. But then, I never thought BYU would beat OU. And I was at a UT game when the announcement came in, that OU lost. Longhorn fans very much appreciate anyone who beats OU, and when your fans come to Austin next year, you can have soem free sodas as a thank you for beating OU. We will be enjoying cold long necks. Hooke em Horns, it will be some great games.

    I'm suprised that Texas would want a series with a team that maybe dropping to the WCC.

    BYU in the WCC.... only in my wildest dreams could I have dreamed this...

    Oh, it's soooo goood to be a Ute!!!!

    I like it, BYU need to continue to schedule games against the likes of Texas and Oklahoma. If BYU can start drawing series with big 12 schools, this could propel a move to the big 12 eventually. If not at worst we are independent and dont have to worry about sharing revenue with a conference if we bust into the BCS. One thing is for sure, BYU isnt afraid to schedule or play anyone and I like that kind of mentality.

    Texas supporters are promoting this as an opportunity to get international exposure on BYU TV, something that they have been trying to copy for the past several months. Only the Texas Longhorns are smart enough to see that BYU has seized on the wave of the future with a proprietary tv channel. If their league decides to go back to a conference title game, look for BYU to join them.

    hedge, being a troll must make life interesting.

    Texas is COMING to Provo to play BYU if this announcement is correct. That means something. Notre Dame has played in Provo. Miami has too back when they were a top program. BYU has been able to schedule big name schools to play in Provo in the past, and will be able to in the future.

    While I was excited for the Utes to schedule ND, the fact that they couldn't get a game in RES in return was troubling. When Utah can bring in big non-conference games, then you may have something to stand on. For the time being, be happy the Utes got into a reasonable league.

    Why does it seem the same pathetic Utah fans make comments about BYU? Go find your own articles!

    Isn't it interesting to see a comment of class from a Texas fan, and a welcome to their field, and the comparison with Ute fans (Hog and Rock, et.al.). Texas has class. BYU has class. It would be great to establish some home and home series with some of the great teams across the country.

    Maybe BYU will lose a few, but BYU will also beat a few like OU, Miami, Washington, UCLA, and the list goes on. What a great time to be a Cougar fan!!

    Hey U fans. Let's give BYU a break. No second rate program gets a home game vs. Texas.

    Hey Coug fans. This isn't the same Texas the Y played in the 80's.

    Q: does anyone think BYU will someday be in the big 12?

  • CaliforniaCougar
    Aug. 19, 2010 10:59 p.m.

    BYU needs to go forward with its Independent objectives to open up more opportunities to play more schools like Texas. This joke about Nevada and Fresno State not being available to play is a blessing in disguise. Why would BYU fans want to continue watching BYU play those schools? Really. Here is a sample schedule for BYU ...

    Sept Utah (just play this game right out of the gate every year)
    Sept Pac 12 opponent
    Sept Pac 12 opponent
    Sept BCS opponent (SEC, Big Ten, Big Twelve, ACC, Big East)
    Oct Utah State (General Conference)
    Oct BCS opponent (SEC, Big Ten, Big Twelve, ACC, Big East)
    Oct BCS opponent (SEC, Big Ten, Big Twelve, ACC, Big East)
    Oct MWC opponent
    Nov MWC opponent
    Nov Notre Dame
    Nov Navy
    Nov Army
    Dec Hawaii (make it an annual game in Honolulu every year; very popular game there; excellent for Church exposure in the Pacific)

    ESPN can generate many of the games above and BYUTV can take care of the rest.

    "BYU in the WCC.... only in my wildest dreams could I have dreamed this..."

    Dream this:

    BYU playing every week on national television

    while Utah only occassionally makes the cut to have one of their games televised when the Utes are playing one of PAC bigshots.

    Utah/Washington State, Utah/Arizona, Utah/Colorado will all be shunted to late Saturday night regional broadcasts, if they're televised at all.

    To see how often you can expect to see Utah games nationally televised, check out how many Washington State games are televised nationally in 2010.

    Just what do you remember about freedom of speech or freedom of the press ?
    If you don't like the Utes, stop reading their comments.
    This is an open public forum and if you just want to read about BYU then stick with "The Daily Universe".

    @utah10

    (yawn) that's okay because BYU just got the #1 QB in the land and will pass all over Texas next season. I can't wait for 2011!

    Meanwhile, hope you enjoy another typical 3rd place MWC finish.

  • bigdaddy
    Aug. 20, 2010 4:36 a.m.

    @Chris B

    I agree with you. Heaps will probably generate the majority of those 134 pts with TD passes to Chambers, Apo, and Jacobsen.

    Oklahoma was just the appetizer last year. In 2011 Texas will be the main course!

  • bigdaddy
    Aug. 20, 2010 4:42 a.m.

    @Wedgie

    We'll tune up Texas just like we tuned up Oklahoma and their Heisman trophy winning QB and all their first round NFL draft picks last year. Texas will provide us a great start to another 10+ win season in 2011.

    Meanwhile in the basement of the Pac 10, Washington St, Arizona and ASU will all make room for the conferences newest footstool. Be sure to schedule enough FBS teams so you can go 6-6.

  • Bigute
    Aug. 20, 2010 4:50 a.m.

    @UteFan24

    That's a good point. I'm worried about our cream cheese defense going up against a Heisman candidate like Dion Lewis.

    If our 4th string RB (a walk-on) is chunking out 120 yds in a scrimmage on our defense, Lewis will run for 300 yds without breaking a sweat.

    AFter looking through our tough schedule, we're going to be lucky to go 4-8. That's not how I want to finish our last season in the MWC with another 6th place finish. That certainly doesn't speak well about our prospects in a much tougher conference like the Pac 10.

    Awesome Post! Playing the Sooners was fun last year and a welcome change from some of the lamer games we usually get (Pac 10 opponents).

    We're looking forward to playing the Longhorns even more.

    Go Cougars!! Hook'em Horns!!

    GO independent and do this. See you can play TEXAS. What a game. Forget the little MWC and go big. Be in control of your future... not bowing to Craig Thompson and no-name MWC teams.

    GO FOR IT COUGARS!

    If the MWC wants to keep BYU and they do. they must give BYU some freedom to make money on out of league games. BYU is crying exposure but what they really mean is give me more money.

    we are willing to not go to lower tier bowl games to make more money during the season.

    Fire Holmoe for putting BYU in this mess.
