The tilt of this story is so ridiculous. As reported in that other newspaper, I
was, a year and a half ago, sitting in front of an apartment that I had lived in
for years talking on a cell phone at about 10 in the morning in the Avenues. I
was doing nothing suspicious. Just sitting in the car talking on the side of
the road, like everyone in the legislature tells you you should be doing every
time they think about making it illegal to drive and talk by mobile.A Salt Lake City policeman pulls up behind me. He comes to my door. What's
the first thing he does? He asks me what I'm doing. I give him the only
possible answer. I'm talking on my cell phone. What's his next
request? Papers please, of course. I knew he had no reasonable suspicion that
I was committing a crime, so I pushed back and asked what his basis for asking
for my license was since I wasn't driving, and since I was obviously not
committing a crime. Funny. The SLC Police chief didn't get investigated for
violating my civil rights. Why?
The Arizona law, regardless of its original intent or the powers that exist in
Arizona, really isn't about Arizona any longer. It's about a broken federal
system. In that respect, even before coming into effect, it has been an enormous
success in pointing out the impotence of Homeland Security's Immigration nod.
@ridgway,Whats your point? The AZ law mirrors the federal law and its
against the law to just ask for papers or identificaton with out a crime being
committed.I like this Sherrif Arpaio, and I wonder who is behind the
federal investigation. I'm sure its Eric Holder and the ACLU.
Officers are taught to lie in the academy and perfect it after leaving. They
will not investigate theft, they will not investigate themselves, but they will
investigate somebody who is a little different and who might make points for
their year end bonus if they can be arrested. My wife, a hispanic, has been
stopped twice for violating no law or ordinance and they officer was extremely
rude each time.
I remember reading in text that in the late 1930s to 1945 something similar to
this was happening, are our horns starting to show again there must be a better
Well now,Looks like Arizona can now round up the rest of the illegals,Go
Arizona, America wants our country back.Your finly making it happen.THAN YOU....
Still Jim's comment is quite astute. 40 years ago Law enforcement truly served
our communities. Remember "if you ever need help you can always trust a police
officer". TODAY, Law Enforcement is totally tilted to find something wrong with
even the most innocent social interaction, and prosecute it with multiple
charges to the fullest extent so that the DA can plea bargain for a conviction.
The entire attitude is to create a problem even if one does not exist. The US
is rapidly becoming a military state, ruled by groups of bullies and thugs,
interlinking groups of SS. Law enforcement is out of control and I am not sure
it can be stopped.
When will you people understand that this is not your country. And therein lies
most of the problems for white America, especially the white MALE living in
America.Time's about up so I understand you don't want to give up the ship but,
shall we fight, surrender, or go down ship and all???And while they're
"rounding up the rest of the illegals", better get in line, Dustyredcliffs,
'cause if you check you'll find that you can trace your line back to being an
illegal immigrant yourself!!! Everyone needs to grow up, learn, and develop
12:20 p.m., thank you. All this talk of 'illegal immigrants'... and most forget they are decended from people who immigrated to this
Why are Mexicans give special treatment over all the other races and
nationalities, when the federal government conspires to break their own laws in
favor of one group of people over another?
"Joanne Lin, legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union, said it
is alarming that one Arizona county is responsible for a disproportionate share
of deportations."Well there are two ways to fix that. Arizona: Stop
what you are doing! Or "Everyone else: Get on the ball!"What will
happen is some Al Qaeda types will pay some Mexican coyotes to get into Arizona.
They will get pulled over by a police officer for speeding or something. He
will think that they are here illegally but he will have to let them go after he
gives them a speeding ticket. They'll go and blow something up.Then everyone will go, "There needs to be better communication and
coordination between different law enforcement agencies!"Basically,
we are codifying a system for different law agencies to not communicate about a
problem that could potentially involve terrorists attacking the US.Tekakaromatagi
Hey Pagan, what part of illegal do you not understand? I am so tired of reading
your comments. Hey guess what? My ancestors immigrated to the U.S.A. about 200
years ago. They came here for a better life. They came here to escape tyranny.
They came here to enjoy freedom. You know what the best part of this
story is? They became LEGAL CITIZENS of the United States.Get the
illegals out of our country!
Migration is not a crime, if we take a look at what a church Elder had to
say:“The church’s view of someone in undocumented status
is akin, in a way, to a civil trespass,” said Elder Marlin K. Jensen of
the Seventy, relating it to coming onto someone’s property uninvited.
“There is nothing inherent or wrong about that status.”
