If Kewgs think this might be a kink in the WU offensive armor your sadly mistaken. WU might just be the most explosive team come this fall. EXPECT an epic beat down to start the season. 6 wins is all you should expect. Don’t believe it? Check out the Vegas odds on BYU winning 7 games.

Cougar Kryptonite = mobile QB's. See Jake Locker. Losing a knucklehead like this is not going to hurt the Purple & Gold.

The only person I'm worried about on the UW team is Locker. That kid is a pure athlete and will give our defense heck. There are a lot of unknowns for BYU coming into this season, but that doesn't mean that UW will come into LES and win. It's going to be a fun game to start off the season. We will see a much improved UW team compared to the last few seasons, though.

    Hey Hedgehog-

Do you, and your other loser BYU hater friends, just sit around all day with the Des News web site up and wait for ANY article remotely about BYU Football to come on line? And then be the first to comment and spew your rancid pewk all over?

Really! GET A LIFE!!! You can hardly spell ("pewk" was spelled that way for effect). Your grammar is usually horrible. And your facts are pretty much non-existent.

And just from a gut feel, the nation will be quite surprised at BYU Football this year.

  • Cougar Claws
    July 21, 2010 7:22 p.m.

That "cougar kryptonite" as you like to refer to Jake Locker as took the entire 4 quarters of the game to put up 28 points against the worst BYU defense in the Bronco Mendenhall era IN SEATTLE. I know that Jake Locker is athletic, but come on. . .Washington went 5-7 last year and they have not won a road game since 2007. If this game were in Seattle, I might give the edge to Washington, but not in LES. Provo is a tough place to win games.

There are a lot of unknowns for both teams, and based on last year's numbers, BYU should still have the advantage in this game. Am I saying that Washington will loose? I think both teams have plenty of obstacles and variables that will level out the playing field and it's very possible for both teams to win this game. But I still give the edge to BYU in this game.

I can understand why people think BYU will only win 7 games this year, but the thing I love most about this season is that BYU is getting no pre-season hype and I really think they could surprise.

Thanks hedgehog, your now a Washington fan? or wait I get it, your a fan of Utah and whoever plays BYU. You'd think your insecurities about the TDS would go away, guess you'll always feel picked on. it wont matter, Riley or Jake, we still beat Utah! Where you at Chris B? when are you going to enlighten us?

    @ MAFU, et al;

No, WE don't think losing one offensive tool, who had already been passed up on the depth chart, THEN went out and violated a team rule (which I am pretty certain is harder to do at the UW than it is at BYU) and got himself kicked off the team, will make a difference in the outcome of the game...

    But...

When BYU surpises U by winning this game, I am pretty confident that SOMEONE from the U will blame it on the loss of this player before the first snap.

AND will say that since it was an infraction of team rules, that it was somehow BYU's fault.

Mark it down, here and now.

@ claws - Please don't say Provo is a tough place to win games (see TCU and FSU last year)

Locker is a stud and will be a top 5 pick in the draft, if not #1. That being said, UW has a lot of holes as well. BYU should be able to move the ball against the UW defense...it's our defense that we need to worry about.

hedgehog is so up on his college sports that he doesn't know if it's WU, or UW. Go back to watching nascar hedgy.

Hey Hedgehog: You and your ilk are continuously ragging on BYU fans for doing the same thing you are doing here. You are the first to comment and you say something negative about BYU. Your comments are getting old and want to make us throw up. Why not wait and comment after the season is over - then your comments might be relevant. Until then, get lost, buddy. However, I do enjoy your comments on the Utah Jazz, most of the time. I am a BYU and Utah Jazz fan - and also Utah, unless they are playing BYU. So I try to be open minded. Not you. Your hate for BYU is very evident.

"its about time to read about some BYU Football. even if it is only about the other team."

    wayne,

I agree with you. The only thing that makes BYU football even marginally interesting is when you get the occasional “pity game” against a BCS program. Admit it, the one or two real games you play each year is why you follow the kewgs.

Can you just imagine how exciting it would be if you actually played (week in and week out) BCS competition?

By the way, did the Big 12 call today?

  • dakuwaqa
    July 22, 2010 1:15 p.m.

    Week in and week out...hmmm
    Washington State:1-11
    ASU: 4-8
    UW: 5-7
    UCLA: 7-6

Top competition week-in n week-out there. Even though UNM only won 1 game, they scored. WSU scored 24 points total in its final 4 games. Keep touting the tough pacx. It's not that tough.

If the U doesn't win at least 6 games in the new PacX it will be a real shame.

as my wyoming fan friends put it best:

after riding BYU's coat-tails for 30 years, utah has 2 good seasons of football in the last 6 years and jumps ship.

Looking forward to every MWC team targeting utah this year and see which team is the most likely to only win 7 games.

& yes, Locker is probably a top-5 pick, but Bradford was a #1 pick (and that was essentially a road-game last year).

    hedgehog- some trivia for you:

only 2 schools in the country have been ranked in the final polls in football and sent their bball teams to March Madness the last 4 years in a row. Who are they?

Only 5 teams in college football have won at least 43 games over the last 4 seasons- which teams?

Hint- neither answer includes utah, but both include BYU.

The first is BYU and Texas,
the second is BYU, BSU (your more that adequate replacement in the MWC, TX, Fl, and USC.

BYU has had a great recent history of beating teams that it has connections to. Bronco had ties with Oregon State and they slaughtered them. UCLA had ties with Norm Chow and they shut them out. Everyone was saying BYU would lose, yet they totally destroyed those teams. Now Steve is coaching up at UW (what fool does not know it's UW?) and everyone will say he will win. BYU has a history of doing damage to those with whom they've affiliated in the past. It won't change, even with a TE who could only catch for 300 yards last year out of the game.

    July 22, 2010 3:10 p.m.

Not even news worthy. 267 yards? Trying to mask the Unga debacle are we?

Good luck cougs, I hope you beat Washinton but pretty sure you will get spanked at home like FSU last year.

I think most BYU fans understand this is going to be a challenging game, and that BYU is not guaranteed a W. Personally I give the Cougars a 3pt advantage for the home team, but that's it. Jake Locker is a STUD! He could be a Heisman contender this year, and is projected to be a first round pick in the 2011 draft. The inexperienced Cougar defense will have all they can handle with his ability to run and break tackles, and his passing is much improved since the 2007 game. I will be going to the game with my friend from Seattle who is a huge Huskies fan. I will be wearing my blue and he will be wearing his purple and gold. Win or lose, it should be a great game!

"Check out the Vegas odds on BYU winning 7 games."

I remember the Utes weren't projected to do so well either last year, after losing Brian Johnson, Sakoda, Kruger, etc. Funny how Ute fans are always dismissing pre-season polls if they make BYU look good, but are quick to cite them if they make BYU look bad.

"The only thing that makes BYU football even marginally interesting is when you get the occasional “pity game” against a BCS program."

In the last decade BYU played home-and-home series with the likes of Notre Dame, Stanford, USC, UCLA, Cal, Arizona, Washington, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Florida St and Miss St, to name just a few.

And I am pretty sure "pity" wasn't the reason BYU was invited to play Oklahoma in a nationally televised game of the first college football game played in the brand new billion dollar Cowboy Stadium.
