Okay... Maybe this will work..We'll see if Utah gets owned again by
POR...Portland is trying to get Chris Paul and they say Rudy
Fernandez is one of the pieces that would have to work out to trade, so maybe
having Wesley Matthews backing up B-Roy would work, it would make sense, but
other wise, Matthews will just be riding the bench if he comes to POR and Rudy
stays. POR needs a strong Back up to LA, the Oden Camby situation looks good
know. Imagine... Chris Paul, Roy, LA, Camny, Batum, Oden, Matthews
all on the same team... sweet!
I think the top priority for the Jazz would be to sign Matthews to a long
contract. We were able to see how well he fits in with the team and the passion
and love of the game he has. He's not afraid to hustle and play defense. He
was one of the bright spots on the team last year.
1280 reporting that Kyle Korver has not been contacted by the Jazz in any way.
These agents and their propaganda. I understand though, it is their job to
literally create a market for their player so that they get the most money. The reality is what did the Blazers get from wasting their time on
Millsap? Nothing. The Jazz have already said they want Matthews back
and plan to match any reasonable offer.Let a team waste their time
with their money tied up while the Jazz wait until the last possible minute to
let them know they wasted their time again.Of course teams are
interested but "interested" is alot different than actually making an offer.
Basically it is teams covering their bases as contingencies. Does anyone really
believe 3 teams besides the Jazz are going to make Matthews offers? He is a nice player but lets be realistic. Millsap got one offer and that
team wasted their time. If other teams want to waste their time I guess they
are entitled. The Jazz will only match if its a reasonable salary as
tweeners are a dime a dozen. Never overpay for a role player.Ask
New Orleans--they overpayed for Mo Pete--many here whined we should have. Jazz
right you were wrong.
bring him to Portland!!!
Tony Allen can replace Mathews if he gets unreasonable. He does a better job of
guarding Kobe. He shoots 3s. I hope Wes stays. POR does
not have enough cap space to get CP. It would have to be a trade and CP would
have to demand it to POR. If they did get CP they would only have the MLE to
work with. If I were Wes I would be more worried about signing with
POR and then getting traded to some junk team for a player POR actually needed.
SG is a minor position for the Jazz. In spite of their continuity
bias they can and will trade unreasonable players at SG. Look at Brewer now. POR does not even have a GM. Who is doing the deal making? It sounds
like smoke and maybe a little poker in hopes of harassing the Jazz into
re: Portland Trail Blazers"We'll see if Utah gets owned again by
POR..."Uh, in case you did not get the memo Portland did not get
Millsap. All they did was essentially wasted their time and effort. The price
the Jazz paid for Millsap, over the life of the contract, was about market
value.I am not sure how Portland losing/not getting a guy they
wanted means the Jazz got owned.I just read Portland lost out on
another deal trying to get CP3 last week. THAT IS NOW FAILED/DEAD!One strike, two strikes,...... Portland already had tweeners more
athletic than Matthews anyways. He is a nice player but a player his size and
skill set is replaceable...lets not forget he was not even drafted. He
flourishes in large part because of the system he is in here in Utah. History
has proven that.
Please let go of Boozer. That's the top priority. Bring back Ronnie
Brewer if possible. Now that Memphis is not holding him back, he may come much
cheaper than it would have cost should the Jazz extended his contract last year.
He may even come cheaper than Wes right now.As long as Jazz starts
Memo at center who cannot score around the rim but a good long range shooter,
Ronnie's ability to move so well off the ball and score in the paint fits very
well to the current system. Also, he was the best perimeter defender when he was
traded (after which Wes stepped up). He's been very durable until when he was
traded (immediately after which he injured). That being said, I hope
Jazz can retain Wes. He's in the best system he can ask for to play up to his
@ BugoffAre you saying Tony Allen shoots threes? Tony Allen is a
terrible shooter and would be essentially a smaller, more injury-prone Ronnie
Brewer in our system.
POR can use Matthews if POR loses Rudy , Przy, Miller, bayless to get CP3. If it want for POR, Utah wouldnt have such serious financial situations,
Maynor would still be in Utah same as Brewer. Oh good ol' Portland, owns Utah's
lazy GM. THere are currently 2 guys acting as GM in portland as of
now.If i were a Jazz fans I would want POR's old GM Prichard, to
replace lazy KOC.
Portland's system is best for Wesley. And the fans in Portland would appreciated
him more in Portland than they do down in SLC. Actually Portland's
system with McMillan, along with Miller, Roy would be better for him. Wesley
could become a true 6th man and not have to have a team, like Utah will, that
will expect him to be a starter and put points up. With Portland he
can come off the bench and be part of a 2nd unit with Oden, Bayless,Babbitt that
would be very strong.
@Ben Thanks for the correction. You are right. I got the wrong stat line.
@ Portland Trail BlazersDidn't the Blazers get swept by the Jazz?Nuff' Said!!!
@Portland Trail Beezer. You talk about Oden, just what has he done for your team
and what will the future hold? Probaly not much! Just like the year you passed
on MJ, what did you get that year besides a chronic injury plagued piece of
junk. I guarantee if you play the same game as last year and want to over pay
Mathews you "JUST" might get your wish and get him. We will be fine without an
overpaid player, because unlike PORTLAND we will find another "diamond in the
rough to replace Mathews, it's just the Jazz MO to do this year after year. What
finds has your loser management found?
Oh my goodness....Tony Allen???? He's a horrible, HORRIBLE shooter!!! Stupid Portland. Their goal is to stick it to the Jazz, plain and simple,
just like with Millsap. Hope we can keep him and maybe get Morrow or
Watson from GS to replace Korver.
Please keep Matthews. I really think this team is headed in the right direction
with some really good young talent.Re sign AK next for about 6-8 mil/yr. And
hopefully Gortat from the Boozer deal and I think Hayward will really turn into
a great pick. Not like Wall Cousins Monroe or Henry from this draft but still a
really good pick. As long as D-Will stays and continues to improve like he has
been, the Jazz will continue to be a playoff team. I really have no idea how
they can get up to a championship level but I gave up on that a long time ago...
I would`nt doubt it one bit if 3 teams called about Matthews ,I bet before this
is all done there will be a bunch more interested in him. He`s a real
ballplayer, hope we keep him,but some moron team like the jailblazers might
re: Portland Trail BlazersYou seem delusional. Babbitt? Bayless?
Oden? Yeah, what a special second unit. The Jazz will still own them. Roy,
yes. Miller, yes. The rest of your team, yuck. BTW, why do you waste our time
as Jazz fans with your Blazer yacking. We really don't care.
@ Portland Trail BlazersThanks for the laugh! You really need to
get a life. A Blazer fan that stalks the Jazz articles all day long? LOL!"If it want for POR, Utah wouldnt have such serious financial
situations"You may want to learn proper grammar too. You really
think the Millsap contract put us in "serious financial situations"? We were
going to sign him for 8 million a year despite what Portland did. LOL! His
contract sure isn't a problem. You're quite delirious if you think
Portland even has a chance at Chris Paul. Why would the Hornets take a bunch of
nobodies to give away their best player? Have fun obsessing over
the Jazz day-after-day! See you later!
Back end load a good contract for Matthews and forget Portland. Matthews doesn't
want to sit on the bech while Brandon Roy is the star.
Jail Blazers? Um... i think that saying died out about, um, 10 years
The Max Wes can get is Mid Level at 5.5 mill per year thanks to collective
bargaining agreement. The Jazz will match any offer, or they should match
because Wes is a young D wade in the making! I hate Portland!
Ronnie Brewers contract did not get picked up by Memphis. If we lose Korver I
think we can get Ronnie B back for like 2 or 3 Million per year easy. Plus we
still have Memphis first round pick too. Thanks to collective bargaining
agreement the max money that Wes Mathews can make is 5.5 Million or mid level,
No question the Jazz will match for sure. GO JAZZ!
It would be a surprise if Oden plays about 40 game. He's plagued with injuries,
especially with the knee. Those injuries are very hard to recover from.
Portland's fans would appreciate Matthews more than Utah fans...hehehe. Portland put Utah in a serious financial situation? Actually, that
front loaded deal is really helping us out this year. We're only on the hook
for about 6 mil for PM this year. Thanks, try again.
So what ever happened to Maynor and Brewer, they left not cuz of money? hehe
wow, POR hurt utah financially, end of story. Matthews will back up Roy and Rudy
will back up Batum. So matthews will get playing time in POR.
Magic , Pls quickly sign boozer. I hope you do it. You will be my second
favorite team if you sign Boozer.
Unless it's unreasonable, the Jazz will resign Matthews. Like many have said,
mid-level is the max he can make, so i'm confident that he'll be back. He's an
important player because his defense, toughness and attitude rubs off on the
other players. I don't know that he is a mid-level player at this point in his
career but it would be far from a bad contract compared to Gay for 80+ million
or Johnson for 120. Bringing him back would be a good move, but we still need
another wing player. My preference is someone who can play d, handle the ball
well, shoot well and most importantly score some points. I don't know if such a
player exists for the money the Jazz can pay. I've heard rumors of a possible
sign and trade deal involving Booz and Orlando. If we could walk away from such
a deal with Gortat and Reddick, I say jump on it. Gortat would add a tough
interior presence while Reddick will replace Korvers shooting, while being a
better overall player as well. I doubt something like this happens
Matthews is not a player who is easy to replace. He plays very tough defense and
even did a good job on Kobe. I doubt there are 30 players in the league who
play defense as well as Matthews does on small forwards and big guards. His
offense is gravy. Matthews is a quintessential Jazz/Sloan player. The Jazz will
not give him up unless they can replace him with somebody who can hustle and
give good D. A lot of NBA players are overrated by writers and fans because
they shoot a lot and, therefore, make a lot of points. The Jazz don't need
players like that.
Why would the Jazz bring Brewer back? Is it that you feel sorry for Kobe and
you don't want him to have to guard anyone outside the key?I am
betting there is more significant interest in teams other than Portland in
Matthews. There are teams desperate for someone to fill that spot whereas
Portland is not needy in that position.
Actually Portland could use him. POR is using Rudy Fernandez as trade food, so
if they can land Matthews, he will become a solid backup to Brandon Roy! Go
Re: Portland Trail BlazersThe Blazers have Roy, Aldridge and a fragile
center named Oden....beyond that they don't have much to look forward to. It's
going to be a long season in Portland....
