That last photo looks like my storage unit. I moved from my home after raising
my kids. I only kept the "things" that meant a lot to me, and can be called a
part of our history. They are a part of my ancestors, parents and myself. It
could be a mini-museum of my own, someday. Thanks for the
encouragement to preserved our past, especially when it comes to sharing the
stories about these treasures for our posterity. One Halloween, I had
a party for my grandchildren. I had the insight given to me to bring out the
old clothes I had saved from my grandmother's treasures and her progenitors. I
had photos and stories of those ancestors and gave them a chance to dress up and
be those in the photos. I had someone come to take black and white
photos and those of my grandchildren are treasures of their own. The trivia
questions at the end reviewed what they learned they loved it and learned about
them. We had "heritage" food I had prepared of what my grands, and
greats had eaten. It was a fun, feast and memorable. A memory in itself.
I love old things and the memories they contain. This is a great article. It's
important to save things from our heritage.
