Speak for yourself...I actually admire and appreciate the management of an
organization that has the ability and the money to bring in the talent necessary
to win a championship. Now, that is something Jazz fans will never experience.
And, somewhat sadly, Jazz fans can only marvel at the way those guys in
green repeatedly find a way to get things done in the postseason, a place where
Utah's hopes continually end in frustration.oh please what does
this have to do with your article? the Jazz fans have to marvel at how Boston
buys 3 superstars and cannot win every year.Boston has 3 superstars,
Lakers have 3 superstarsJazz have/had 2...do the math, who wins?Orlando may soon join the coaching carousel as they have a bunch for really
good players and like Cavs may need a new coach to get them really going.
I lived in MA for 17 years, and all I can say is, Go for it, Celtics!
As a Celtics fan, all I can say is "how sweet it is." While living in Utah I
always felt bad for Jazz fans, the Jazz are a tough team to follow. They were
bound to lose a lot recently when their best big man was a horrible defender.
Any way for BOTH teams to lose? Love to see it. Lakers v Celtics...
BORING!!!!!! Hope it ends in a low scoring series of ties and the TV ratings the
worst ever... maybe David "love the rich" Stern and his rich get richer NBA make
it so someday it's a Memphis v. Atlanta, or Orlando v. Utah, or ANY Final that
doesn't have the Lakers, Celtics or Bulls in it.BORING!!! TO THE
Apparently theres no moral victories in sports, but you have to admire how the
suns played, at least they gave it their best, which is more than I think you
can say about the jazz. The suns have a proven leader in nash, and his
performance agaisnt the lakers will solidify that. dwill has a way to go before
he can command that kind of respect, but I think he's on his way. The suns
remind me of the jazz doing damage with stock and malone. The problem with the
jazz is they are trying to replicate the stockton to malone, but they don't have
a player like amare who can pull it off. But, they also don't have the kind of
pride that the celtics do, or players willing to sacrfice their bodies on
defense. I pray to god the jazz let korver walk, his ballet move under the
basket against the nuggets in a playoff game with jr smith is burned in my mind,
there's no pride in that from a fans perspective, okur is one of the worst
defenders in the league, turkolugus defense has made canada want to export him,
I'm not tired of this matchup, it oozes with history. I also always want to see
the Dodgers and Yankees in the world series and the Cowboys and the Steelers in
Yeah, speak for yourself, anyone who loves the game of basketball loves this
matchup, it's the dream matchup! Go Celtics
Not that it is impossible for a small market team, but the article does show
that larger markets can pay for titles. The Jazz could not pay the 90 million
plus the 20 million in luxuray tax that the Lakers spend this year and stay in
business. It is just not a financial possibility. I would like to see the
luxary tax even more punitive at $2 per dollar over or scaled so that at you pay
$2 on salary 10% over and $3 on salaray that is 20% over or something like that.
That being said--the Jazz did not deserve to make it further than they did.
JazzCop is right that DWill could learn from Nash and the team as a whole could
compete harder. For the most part, it seems the more talented players have the
least competitive drive (Okur, Booze, Miles, Fes) and the guys with the burn to
win (Milsap, Matthews, Price) are working with less natural talent. It can be
frustrating as a fan. Go Jazz (and Celtics)!
get rid of David Stern!
UT can fix it's problems and compete if they decide they are going to do the
things that are necessary compete. Would UT fans feel any better if it were BOS
vs SA? If Boozer is signed and traded there are ample resources to
put together a great team. Get a defense like BOS or LA and you can
whine about being small market. It is not the big name expensive
stars who win the championships. It is the defense, rebounding, ability to hit
3s and overall talent level of the team. Since the playoffs are match up
basketball it is also the lack of exploitable weaknesses and the ability to
exploit weaknesses. How many big expensive overpaid names does ORL
and CLE have? PHO was not even supposed to make the playoffs this year. Give the Jazz credit for beating DEN and playing hard, the best they
could. Then go get the talent and fix the weaknesses and stop whining about
living in UT.
When UT stops insisting on it's loser continuity formula of weak defense, weak
rebounding, under utilization of the 3, under sized PFs, plodding C, wings who
can't shoot, over reliance on the PF position, SFs who do not rebound, under
utilization of the SG for scoring, insisting on going inside for TOs, inability
to break a paint pack and running plays that are known to the opponents and
older than James Naismith then they might compete? How many
exploitable weaknesses are listed above? Do you really think you can win with a
team that is that poorly designed? The UT management is BAD. If you
are going to try to get a championship on the cheap at least fix some of the key
I'm a big fan of rivalries and a big of David Stern. I hate the lakers, and I am
confident they will lose to the Celtics. Of course I wish the Jazz were at this
level, but I (and apparently everybody else too) have no idea how to get them to
that level when stars do not want to come here. Look how teams like SA,
Cleveland and Orlando got where they are--the number 1 pick in the draft. How
did miami win their championship--Shaq wanted to go there. the lakers and
celtics have traded for superstars somehow... I just wish the Jazz could luck
into one of these stars sometime soon
From 1946 to today there has only been 15 different champions.5 teams with only
1.so that means only 5 teams have won more than once.so there are reasons y
there have been 5 teams winning more than 2 times.large markets,a trade to large
markets,and before 1958 there were 8-10 teams.from 1970 on it's been
la,boston, chicago, detroit, spurs.the spurs are the exception.they are in a small
market but have won 4,thanks to Duncan.and it's easy to say that winning it
all,takes little luck,skill,and it's basically,darn hard to do..look at the
Knicks,they only won twice,since 73.since 1946..15 teams who haven't.the Jazz
have been competitive since 84.the Suns haven't won either.@ no other team in
the league can say they have had 1 season below 500 in the last 26 years.
NONE..Here's a fact.if the Jazz haven't been doing this for 26 years,they
probably be in Anaheim, tampa bay,Pittsburgh,or Louisville.so having an egg in
the basket's = basketball-in S.L.C.
The only thing that will ever change things like this, (same with
baseball)is a HARD cap.As long as you have Big
City teams that can throw around BIG money, this will continue to
happen.unless you can get lucky in the draft and get a TIm
Duncan who will stay with small market team. The Jazz drafting
mediocre players is NOT the answer.unless all you are interested in
is maintaining good regular seasons., good for business, NOT
good for winning championships.
Most sport is this way. Look at who dominates the soccer scene in Europe year
in and year out.
y do the Jazz draft in the 20's all the time.Wining to much.Take the Hawks, they
haven't won since they were in St.Louis.And this year there two or three best
coach they have had, gets fired for improving to 53 wins this year, and stumbles
against a good Orlando team.HE'S Gone..u here if u keep ur maintenance on your
car,u get more miles, years for u to keep it.Frank Layden is the blame.Keeping
the game plan in the front office @ patience, with steady observation of
growth,of players.question.how can a team have 3 top 10 draft picks in 31
years,do so well??Sticking with a game plan..stray from it,@ your out of
business, and having the joy of watching a team grow.from 79 to now has been all
that. Thanks Frank,Larry, Sam Basttistone,Jerry.Ive never heard wining is not
what fans,teams want. Ask the
warriors,clips,nets,bulls,knicks,76ers,kings,t-wolfs,see if there media would
think.they would drool to be in the win column, every year..
DET did win one championship with mostly blue collar no names. After they won
they were big names. On most teams some of the big names are way
over paid. They may score but they are not efficient or they don't play defense.
Everybody focuses on their fancy shots.Sloan has the right
philosophy on maximizing the efficiency. At UT it need some modification in
practice. UT has 17 mill tied up in AK and 12 mill in Boozer. AK is
a good player but not worth the max. Boozer is redundant with Millsap who costs
about 6 mill a year now. If you redeploy the 29 million tied up in
AK and Boozer into fixing the problems with effective cheap Vets and younger
players who will become all stars you can compete. You probably will not be
able to hold the team together after you win but you can at least win one.You are never going to amass more "stars" than LA. You beat LA by
functioning better than LA. Get the quality and fix the weaknesses. You do not
have to have Bosh/James/Wade etc. You do need an effective PF/C/SF.
After reviewing the defensive ratings of some of the FAs, if the Jazz were to
add Ty Thomas at SF and Hayward at C it would go a long ways toward beating LA.
Millsap is good enough at PF with Thomas/AK backing up. CJ can back
up Mathews. Fes/Koufos can back up Hayward as they develop. Thomas
and Hayward also have good WP48 scores and do not cost a mint. They rebound,
score at a reasonable rate and defend. That replaces Boozer and does
not count on Okur. There would be some contribution from the draft
pick Udoh, Whitesides or whoever.
his name is haywood, if you call him hayward people are going to think you are
saying the jazz should draft that sf and play him at center, haywood isn't the
answer against the lakers, he'd probably do less damage than boozer did, and we
see what boozer did, actually, fes should get some minutes, he just wears
people down, i was wondering if bynums injury has anything to do with fesenko,
RE: Bugoff | 11:29 p.m.I disagree about blue collar types they've
had very good players. they 've had very skilled very good
defensive people in the big men positions, and they had great
shooters and scorers in the other positions. in '80s they had help
when magic got aids, kareem other veterans retired and LA had to rebuild, bird got a bad back...I do agree with you about
the jazz management, they have spent too much money trying hold on
to thier talent, most of which was medicore or average at best, or limited
like a boozer (no defense, no length) Without talent that is
complete on both ends, filling your front and back courts, you will never have any hope winnning a championship. The
jazz have always been limited and short on talent, and as a result, the
results have always been limited.
It sounds like Matt Barnes is opting out and looking for a long term contract.
He would be nice at SF and solve a lot of problems. Gortat is
looking for a trade and ORL may do it as they need to rearrange salary and they
only play him a few minutes a game. He is an expensive but important insurance
player to ORL. He would solve the C position. The Harp exemption or
any exemption gotten from signing and trading Booz could be used to get Gortat
who would love to start. AKs expiring salary may be most valuable to
the Jazz if the new CBA contains a hard cap. Many over spending teams will have
to dump salary. They may need to keep AK for that reason and use various
exemptions to fix the problems. If the Jazz could add a couple
players like Gortat and Barnes and if they zoned LA like OKC and PHO they might
have a decent shot at LA. As I stated earlier Thomas and Haywood
would have the same effect.Pryzbilla may also be a viable option at
C. With Booz/AK and then Okur expiring the Jazz can retool.
RE Bugoff: 1:10 : It would be nice if the Jazz could go get Hayward and Thomas
and then try to develop Fes and KK. Hayward and Thomas together shouldn't be as
much as Booz with a max contract, going over the cap is something Greg has said
he is willing to do if he thinks it will be worth it. Those two players would
make things interesting. I don't want the Jazz to give up on Fes or KK but
signing Hayward for 2 or 3 yrs would be good. Thomas is young and has alot of
potential but would he be able to deal with Sloan and his disciplinarian
style?Hopefully the Jazz will be bringing in some players for workouts. I
have been routing for Udoh and Whiteside lately and they are still my favorites
but I'm kinda leaning towards Whiteside as a PF as my #1, he is
tall, long, athletic, shotblocker, and offensive minded. He feels he can be a
player like Garnett and I don't see why he can't. He is as tall or taller,
longer, mobile, as athletic and can shoot. I like how long he is.
Chuck Nunn : I'm hoping your going to be having an update on Ante Tomic soon. I
appreciate your keeping us informed on how he is doing. I haven't seen you
update your Mock Draft lately, what are your opinions (and do you have anything
to back them up) on some of the players.
Lakers vs. Celtics?No---Nothing to see here! Nothing to see here!
....says David Stern...nothing except a lopsided system that allows the tv
ratings favorites to mysteriously show up year after year int the Finals....with
a few exceptions every now and then to make it look legit.
the news on Ante Tomic,is he is progressing well for Spanish team,ave,14 pts 8
reb. he will be here next year!!should be fun to see what he dose when he gets
The problem with Boozer????? is Mehmet Okur.Boozer would be
tremendously coveted if he had a legit defensive Center to work with.Instead we have a Euro softy and Boozer is asked to play the Center position
on occasion which makes him look worse than he really is.Pair Boozer
with Lopez, Dwight Howard, Chris Kaman, Paul Gasol, Yao Ming...what would you be
saying him about him then?
Out of the past 30 NBA Championships, 6 teams have won 28 of them. Snooze. For
the record, in the same 30 years, the NFL has had 15 different teams win a Super
Bowl and MLB has had 18 World Series winners. About five years
ago, my friend's brother told me he stopped watching the NBA because it is fake.
(Actually, he used much stronger language). I looked at him and thought he was
crazy. Five years later, I 100% agree with him. The NBA is a multi-billion
dollar enterprise and, as any business, is concerned first with making money. I
doubt that Stern would leave certain things to chance.LeBron goes to
Cleveland...fixed. Kobe drafted by the Hornets but ends up in flashy
LA...suspect. Western Conference Finals 2002...shameful, horrid fix.NBA referees betting on games but the NBA sweeps allegations under the
rug...huh? Jordan pushes off but no call...hmmm. The list
could go on, but I hope people see the point.
Does anyone remember an official named Donahey? I wish that were an isolated
instance of fixing of the NBA games...With the dominance by two teams, the NBA
continues to look like glorified professional wrestling...Look at the number of
teams in MLB and the NFL and you can easily see why more of the mainstream
follows these other two sports. Any team or city has a chance to win NOT SO IN
THE NBA. The foul by Jordan on Malone and Russell really has given many fans a
bad taste in their mouth.
Rumor is that MN is scouting Tomic and may be willing to trade the 4 pick for
the 9 and Tomic. As he might fit the triangle. I would prefer to
keep the 9 and Tomic. You might get Favors at 4? He might be worth it. You might also be able to get Love for Tomic and something? I looked up
Love's defensive rating and was not impressed. Booz actually has a
better defensive rating than Bosh (Travis Heath of Hoopsworld). Yeah I know that
is a shock. What makes you think Whiteside could be an effective PF?
That is a really interesting idea. I am open to Whiteside but think he is a big
risk, but high potential pick. How good is Tomic? How does he compare
with current top 10 draft picks that the Jazz are likely to choose? How does he
compare with Koufos and Fes? Can he play PF? I am beginning to think
that SF may be the biggest weakness. PF can be covered by Millsap and AK. C may
or may not be covered by Fes/Koufos/Tomic.Mathews should be much
better next year. CJ can back him up.
