This is ridiculous. Use of E-Verify should be mandatory for ALL Utah
businesses. What is wrong with honor and decency? This would have leveled the
playing field for those businesses who have maintained their honor and integrity
and hired only citizens and those eligible to work here. It appears to me that
money and special interest groups run this state. I become more disillusioned
by the day. I was hoping that Herbert would show me why I should
vote for him but instead he has shown me why I should not.He has
lost my vote.
The Governor did the right thing with this one.
I suspect the legislation has no penalties because the legislature likes to
appear to take action while not actually doing anything that they themselves
might be guilty of violating. How many of the legislators who voted on the bill
are employers?Lacking penalties is not at all unprecedented in Utah
"law" - the entirety of Title 20A, the Utah Election Code, appears to prohibit
certain behaviors, but specifically states that there is no penalty for breaking
any of these "laws".
What a waste, another law on the books and no penalties to businesses, we can
put someone in jail for putting drugs in there body, but cant have any penalties
for businesses, complete favoritism towards business always.Penalties (per illegal employee)1st offence $5K Fine and 6mo Manditory
Jail Time2nd offence $10K Fine and 1yr Manditory Jail Time3rd
offence $50K Fine & 5yrs Manditory Jail Time4th offence Revoke business
license $500K Fine 25yrs Manditory Jail TimeWe will save the
billions on the Fence, ICE agents, Border Patrol, Immagration, JUST SAY NO TO
GOP BIG GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS.
Just when I thought this Gov. had a spine. He gives in to illegals just like
Huntsman did. I'm convinced these guys are all the same. SAD!
The people are watching this one very closely Governor. Theis is what the
people want. You must sign SB251 into law. Stop pandering to illegal aliens.
They are lawbreakers (felony) and you must follow the rule of law, if not we
will vote you out.
This stinks to high heaven. Governor, this bill is what the people want. You
need to lead the majority of Utahns and not cave-in to special interest groups.
I don't like illegals anymore than the next guy, but it's wrong to turn my
business into the US border control. Let me run my business and let the
government protect our borders. Herbert got it right. It sounds like Buttars is
trying to do the right thing too.
Herbert got it right | 9:47 p.m. March 31, 2010 Go ahead run your
business, just dont break any laws, like hiring an illegal, if you do the crime
serve the time. The Government will secure the borders, but they
shouldnt have to spend extra money looking for illegals, NO BUSINESS SHOULD HIRE
AN ILLEGAL, if we need to amend immigration laws to allow more workers thats
fine, legal immigrants are ok.
Unless E Verify is required and there are penalties for not using it, it will do
no good. The laws have been on the books since Reagan's days. When I was in
Human Resources I was required to verify the information of all new hires.
There was a fine if I did not do it. Business do not have to be the US Border
Control, but simply advise them of a possible problem.
Dishonest. Selling out the American worker to business interests that love the
illegal labor. For once Utah's legislature needs to do what's right.
Redeem yourselves and take back our state. Make E-verify mandatory, and give it
a fine. Herbert needs to go.
Health care, the budget, schools etc are not deserving of a special session, but
an attempt to destroy illegal immigration enforcement is?
The way this law is written will have little affect in screening and keeping
illegals out of jobs. Infact, it will make it easier for business to break
immigration laws and keep illegals harbored in this state. The
E-verify doesn't identify illegals, it identifies SSN as real or fake. The
ITIN's issued by the state does indentify illegals but gives protection to
illegals. So we have conflicting laws that cancel each other out and they still
allow illegals to pilfer and loot america and the poor. What would be
better than either of these laws is require employee and state workers and
education to ask for green cards or passports and citizenship status. If they
have neither, then its simple, they don't get a job or welfare or eduction. This
method worked for 150 years and there was no confusion about who got state aid,
jobs, or education.'Are you an american citizen', should be the
first question on any job, state service, and schools that would eliminate any
doubt or questions or need for other laws to skirt this simple method to
segregate illegals and legal americans.
I-9's are still required by law. This will just make the use of the online
Thanks for opening the door Gary. Now the legislature can declare war on the
Feds and enact comprehensive immigration enforcement by the state. You can tell them what you want, but once you open the session, they can
modify the bill any way they care to. If my Senator or
Representative doesn't give it teeth, they don't deserve to serve this country,
and I will vote accordingly.
Utah's version of "Don't ask Don't tell"
Until Gary can come up with honest enforcement against all people here
illegally, he needs to get out of the way.
Republicans say they're for enforcing the immigration laws, but they don't have
the spine to actually do so, since they're wedded into big business, and Big
says no to this one. So let's vote him out and demand a candidate who will
guarantee it's the first thing he does once entering office.
If there is a Special Session, everyone had better be giving their
representatives an earful about changing the law to be more restrictive, not
less. Voters need to remember for more than a week about how these people
represent them. In this case, most of our representatives would do better in
Mexico City, since they obviously don't care about Utahns (unless those Utahns
are financing their elections, I guess).
"not mandated to participate in the E-Verify program."You just lost
my vote Governor! Matter of fact I think all Incumbents should be voted out of
the Utah Legislature... Now the Illegal supporters have time to kill what's left
of this bill. We should all keep a real close watch on this bill and hold them
As an employer, would you like to use a system that has an error rate of 54% in
identifying who is legal and who isn't. As a legal resident looking for
employment, this bill will impact me. The Governor should have veto the bill.
THIS IS A BIG MISTAKE MR. HERBERT!
BIG MISTAKE!!! This bill already has no teeth!!! Herbert will pay at the polls
for this. How many more incumbents have to be taken out before they
stop representing illegals and businesses??? Apparently many many more.
Bennett will be next. Herbert needs to hear from you. Call his
office and give it to them. I did. This issue needs to be made a top 3 issue
for voting someone into office. Use it as a test of their conservatism. It
never fails to weed out the phonies. All the state delegates need
to make Herbert listen at the state convention.Take him out!!!
Gov Herbert has got to be the dumbest polictian to date.If he had a
shot at getting elected he blew it big time. These politicians just
don't get it. We have 12 to 50 million illegal aliens that have invaded this
country. Their negative impact on this country is undeniable. We are
tired of politians who have allowed this to happen. Allowed is not the right
wording here "sold out" far better discribes their treasonous actions or in this
case non action.Vote out Herbert along with the other politians who
are far better at lining their pockets rather than serving the people.
