Better rebounding? For sure. Our inside play was mediocre, at best, and must
get better tomorrow or the dance will be over.
What ever happened to the "box out" concept? Hello BYU....you can't out leap
these physical guys. Get your arms and butt out and find a guy! I've got sixth
graders on my son's team that do a better job with this than the Cougar bigs. Do
we want it or not?
The Florida game never goes to overtime and BYU cruises if we just learn how to
box out and keep them off the glass. I hope we've learned a few things since
that game and have a resolve to keep KSU off the glass. We can beat
anybody in the country if we hold them to one shot possessions.
BAD defensive philosophy, sending the big men out chasing players around 3-point
line.and one so easily corrected.just tell them to stop
chasing at about 15 feet.too many teams take advantage of them
getting easy baskets and rebounds.
I love how Miles states that it is a learning experience, seeing how he could be
playing his last game of college basketball. If its taken you four years and you
havent learned how to rebound or be physical you probably arent going to learn
over night. There is no reason that Miles shouldnt be average 10 or more
rebounds a game. He is dang near 7'0". You might get more playing time.
Rebounding all comes down desire and discpline. You dont have to have a 45"
vertical to dominate on the glass.
I am a Cougar fan, but I must admit that Majerus' Utah teams were the best at
this. When they played in the final game of the NCAA tourney against Kentucky, I
recall that the Kentucky players were so "boxed out" on some plays that the ball
actually dropped untouched in the lane and was picked up by a Ute player.
Awesome. Come on Cougars....let's do it. Call in Rick if we have to!!
Cougs have to choose their poison.K-State is big, fast, and tough.
Miles, Davies, Hartsock, and Abouo need to board hard . . . but so
do Haws and Emery.
This keeping people off the offensive glass isn't a priority for BYU and it
never has been. If it was, it would have been fixed a long time ago. Let's hope
it can be fixed in thirty six hours. If not were finished. I think that TRUE
GRIT can fix it!
We may not win the rebounding battle, but we will win the game. Our best
defense is a chasing and switching defense, it has won us many games, getting
steals and taking our opponent out of their offensive game. Yes, we want to get
as many rebounds as we can off of that, but don't abandon it, don't let them get
comfortable in their offence by sagging, don't change at the pearl of our strong
defense on the ball. Go Cougs!
the the Cougs have lost this year was because the other team got too many second
chances...this isn't a "new" problem.
This is BYU's weaknesses and it has been all year. They have won games though
when they have performed poorly and hopefully will do so today. At this point in
the season you pretty much have to go with what got you here and great interior
defense did not get the Cougars this far. I was impressed by their wild
scrambling defense against Florida. Let's hope it works today.
