I have a question. Why is the Social Security System in trouble of it takes in $940 Billion and Pays out $695 Billion each year? Can some one tell me where if we have a difference of 45 Billion per Year all that money is? It should be drawing interest somewhere shouldn't it?

  • where'd you get that?

anon 12:59, where did you get your figures? I saw that SS was expected to run a $77 Billion surplus in 2009, but only ran a $3 billion surplus because more older workers were giving up looking for work. So instead of putting in they were taking out. I think you were using 2008 numbers.

In response to your question as to where all that money is, BO spent it. Just like bush and clinton and bush sr and reagan and carter and ford and nixon and johnson and so on all the way back to roosevelt.

Thank goodness we have a president who won't raise our taxes. Time to focus on the Global Warming (Oh sorry, I mean climate change) challenge and forget about all of this nonsense about debt!

    Bush messed up America!

Clinton left with no deficit and now Obama has to try to clean up his mess. I agree Obama hasn't done much but give the blame to the person that is at fault...... George Bush!

can you say the fall of the roman empire.

We're not the roman empire guy. Keep up. The 'fall' began when Americans felt debt was something someone else had to deal with and not themselves.
When dozens of presidents felt it was ok to continue to go into debt and not have a timeframe or plan to pay it off.
And to be complacent about these things and then FREAK out when the first black president was elected and did the same thing.

gross federal debt increased every year under slick willy. (source, government printing office) You cannot have a surplus when gross debt increases. The last couple years of slick's administration the social security surplus was enough to make up the shortfall in the federal budget. Don't forget that slick shut down the government 3 times because congress didn't want to spend as much as he did. So if you want to say the government was more fiscally responsible then, and it was, credit goes more to the repug congress than to slick willy. Too bad they lost their way when bush was elected.

All that is totally irrelevant, however, when you look at the exponential explosion in deficits BO is giving us. Admit it, BO's deficits are much much worse than bush's deficits.

Pagan, invoking Cheney does not absolve BO from his totally reckless spending. Nice attempt to obfuscate.

I never said it did. You point out that it was ok for one to do it and not another. Or did Bush/Cheney do anything about debt besides increase it?

What does that say about you?

Clinton did not balance the Budget, he just used the THEN SURPLUS of Social Security to cover it. That is not balancing the budget that is Delaying the imbalance.

Woodrow Wilson Messed up America and every president since then has just made it worse. With the exception of JFK who was killed before he could abolish the Federal Reserve hmmmm what a coincidence.
