Wow!! Way to put up a fight today Zoobs. The really sad part is that you are having arguably your best year ever and yet you are only tied for first place in the MWC.

Even the Utes beat UNLV on their home court this year.

  • Way to Shine y
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:32 p.m.

Too bad the y doesn't play more often in Vegas. The team that showed up from happy valley today shouldn't be in the top 20.

  • Every dog has his day
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:36 p.m.

UNLV just had one of those days. Everything they threw up went in. They would have beat the Lakers in the first half of that game. Put it behind and move on. My guess is that BYU will get another shot at UNLV in Vegas and I'll bet they don't have another shooting night like that. Having said all that I was very disappointed in BYU. They had almost no fight in them that first half to stop the run from happening.

  • Ouch
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:36 p.m.

That was an old fashioned butt kicking, but we'll bounce back and hopefully even the score with UNLV come tournament time.

Well...a deep hole in the ground, and that is where the Yners went today!!!!!! LOL

  • great week BYU
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:38 p.m.

Get passed in football recruiting and then get blown out by the Rebels in basketball.
    Can't wait till next week!

  • Observations
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:39 p.m.

BYU shot three more free throws at UNLV than UNLV did, and made seven more total!!! And lost!!! BYU shot two more total field goals, four more three pointers but had 8 less makes and 5 less threes! Looks like UNLV either defended better, shot better or both. Another observation, UNLV loses by 4 at BYU (where BYU shot twice as many free throws and made 11 MORE of them), BYU loses by 14 at UNLV (with 7 more made free throws). UNLV is better than BYU.... on a neutral floor. Unfortunately we won't get to see on a neutral floor since the MWC tournament is all home games for UNLV!

  • Utah
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:41 p.m.

Thank you UNLV for showing up those FAKERS!!!

    Dear Ute Fans:
We all watched your last two games:

    BYU and CSU.

    How did you fare?

Seattle rings a bell too....can you remind me what that score was? Does Seattle even have a basketball team? Apparently so....

  • Mark
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:42 p.m.

Nice showing! BYU's three losses have come in games that are against NCAA-type teams. Can we say one and done? What a Joke!

  • what in tucket?
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:43 p.m.

Over the years I have noticed that home teams playing in the afternoon often build up huge leads and win. BYU has a good team, maybe still not ready for prime time. I doubt BYU can beat UNLV in the tournament. They still have a good chance to tie for champion.

  • Golfer
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:43 p.m.

Dave, how did the Utes do Wednesday at Home to CSU? Not to be rude but UNLV seems to play their best against BYU. This isn't an excuse for the lose, as we lost and UNLV deserves all the credit in the world. But if you watch them play multiple games they seem to play at a much higher level against BYU than they do against anyone else.

  • NevadaCoug
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:44 p.m.

UNLV couldn't miss, and BYU was sloppy with the passing game. They tried to force too much. But, I don't care who you are and how high your are ranked: you can't beat a team on their home court when they shoot 70% behind the arc and near 60%. They got up big and only had to hold on. Hard to come back from that.

In the end, it's just one loss. BYU has now played all their tough road games and just needs to win out at home and beat the lower tier teams on the road, and they'll win the conference.

  • re: Anonymous
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:44 p.m.

Hey, Utah lost to BYU... does it matter... is it pertinent to today's game? BYU fans were just stating the other day on another forum... "you can't live in the past... what you did in the past doesn't matter, only what happens now!" Interesting how BYU now wants to talk about last week or winning the conference last year now that they are in jeopardy of losing it to New Mexico or UNLV this year. Don't want to talk about BCS bowl games won last year or a few years ago but want to talk about 1984. Oh, and by the way, I AM NOT a Utah fan! Go Lobos, Go Rams, Go Jayhawks!!!

hmmm, the "loser" Utes beat the Rebels in Vegas... what does this say about the almighty Kittens?

Let's hope the NCAA finds away of keeping the Cougars out of the tourney. After all they're looking for decent teams to represent.

  • Desert Coug
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:52 p.m.

I said it last week, If Jimmer was hot, they could still win on him, BUT Lon Krueger gets his players ready. If the big men for the Y don't show up, the
    weakness is exposed.

The Y can't be different than it's always been. Heartbreak kids...

  • Annonymous Infinity
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:53 p.m.

Give all the credit to UNLV and none to the Cougars. What a trashing! This result just validates my contention that BYU is just horrible on the road when the chips are down, as in all their losses (USU,UNM,UNLV). No athleticism, no one to stop opposition scorers, shoddy passing, out of control play....UNREAL! It also punctuates my views of bigtime B-Ball players don't come, and probably can't gain admission to BYU. So why crow all the time about the program being so wonderful? We need some meat on players down low, and some athletes who can guard someone besides my Mother. This loss is devastating to the Cougars chances for the conference title and the prospects for the season ending tournaments. I am just totally disappointed at the result. Evidently, the team missed Davies a lot more than I thought with his surgery, and the coaching staff absolutely did not prepare this team for what happened in the first half. That was just a joke getting down like that. What's the problem? Players that can't get motivated enough to take care of business in the crunch is mindboggling. Nevertheless....GO COUGARS!

  • Utah
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:55 p.m.

You pathetic byu fans can`t take what they dish out!!!

  • MWC
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:56 p.m.

I think this shows that the MWC has 3 teams that are pretty good and all very similare. UNM, BYU and UNLV. And with the exception of SDSU after the top tier of the league the rest of the teams are very weak. If they get 3 teams in this year it will be interesting to see how they fare.

  • Utah Trolls
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:56 p.m.

Its funny how the Utah trolls are more interested in what happens to BYU than how much their team really stinks. I guess you have to find your happiness where you can get it.

  • Aggie Fan Here
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:58 p.m.

Re: Golfer and Dear Ute Fans, seriously. Show some integrity! Utah fans aren't boasting or claiming they have a good team (best in the western U.S. I think I read) this year. They are weak this year and admit it! They know they fell on their faces against CSU and got beat by a good performance at BYU! But does that really make your loss today any better or different? Does it really make you feel better to be a top 12 team and lose badly to an unranked team by commenting on losses by an admittedly weak team? Really? I mean Really? If so, I am glad it makes you feel better but at the same time, it is too bad that it does! Honestly, your satisfaction should come from how your team performs not how another team fails to perform! Go Aggies, Go Lobos!

  • Ute Fan Comments
    Feb. 6, 2010 4:58 p.m.

Ute fans are commenting on a loss by BYU@UNLV. That is funny. BYU will end up 14-2, UNLV 13-3 and NM 14-4. Where will Utes end up. By the way, same record Realtime RPI predicted when the conference schedule began. Also, recruiting, one source has Utah slightly ahead of BYU with all other sources giving the edge to BYU. I would not say that is a ringing endorsement for a win by Utah in recruiting. By the way, there is little difference in fans between the two schools.

  • not a cougar fan
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:02 p.m.

this is a team sport, and when you have depended so heavily on Jimmer being your offensive power, you are bound to lose....and lose bad.

BYU doesn't have any decent post players. They all to often rely on outside shooting....that wont win all the games, especially when you play a decent team.

One and Done.....typical NCAA tournament showing is what I predict.

When do the Cougar trolls show up?? I'm sure your knee deep looking up some obscure zoobe stats to
    1) support why this blow-out is actually a good thing.
    2) How this Zoobie lose is better than the Utes victory over the Rebles in NV.
3)How to incroporate "George is still running" into the arguement.

    LOL!!!!!

  • Re: NevadaCoug
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:04 p.m.

Can't beat a good team on the road? UNLV almost did! All they needed to do was not have BYU outscore them by 11 on free throws (i.e., only get outscored by 6 on free throws) and they would have handed it to the Cougars at home! I guess what I am saying is most of what you said just sounds like excuses. How would it feel to lose once and accept it without making excuses? Do you know what you think of others when the make excuses when they don't perform? Well, guess what we view you the same way! Go Aggies!

  • RE: Utah
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:04 p.m.

Why are you even on here posting? Utah is not even relevant.

  • It's VERSUS' fault
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:05 p.m.

Can we please not have any more games on Versus???!!! BYU football and basketball have lost by a lot this year on Versus!!

And by the way, anyone can beat anyone in D1 basketball--or even D1 vs D2 (Southern Baptist) or brand new D1 teams (Seattle U) or the Utes this year even beat that same UNLV team @ UNLV. You anti-BYUers are unreal.

  • Congrats UNLV
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:07 p.m.

The Rebels shot lights out in the first half; disappointing loss for the Cougars, but not unexpected. BYU is still in great shape; tied for 1st place in the MWC with all of their tough road games finished.

Didn't even bother reading the jibberish from the Utah trolls. I'm not sure why they're even spamming the blog with their inane comments. Utah's season is over.

  • Losers
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:10 p.m.

Ya know what's funny is seeing all the losers and whiners on here attacking BYU for losing a basketball game. The Utah fans and fans from any of the other schools talk all the same when they are up and things are going well. The only thing really notable here is all the people who are losers in the game of life who attack those who are doing well and set high goals and standards. Not a BYU fans here, just a neutral observation.

  • re: Annonymous Infinity
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:10 p.m.

I agree with you! I will not make any excuses! They were really hot??? Yeah, that's what happens when you don't defend well!! On their floor??? BYU shot more free throws than they did and made quite a few more! Granted, BYU shot more free throws because UNLV was more physical and defended more aggressively but even with the 7 point deficit they probably came out on the plus side of that defensive approach! No, BYU DID NOT play with fire, like a top 12 team, with defensive intensity!

  • Re:Utah
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:11 p.m.

UNLV was definitely the better team today. They shot lights out and BYU's defense was not very good. BYU will still win the conference with UNLV second and NM third. Hopefully NM can beat UNLV in the conference tournament since I don't think BYU will ever beat UNLV on their court. Definitely a match up problem.

Utes will still be trying to climb out of the cellar.

Like I said you can`t take what you dish out Yners, so expect it all the time when you guys stumble and fall flat on your face, there will be a boot with a Utes logo on it to kick you right back down when you try to get back up!!!

    Feb. 6, 2010 5:20 p.m.

Meaning ute fans. Sure you beat UNLV, but they looked past the u as they are a cellar dweller in the conf. It is much easier to get up for a game against a ranked team. I am not shocked the cougs lost this one but I see no more games on the schedule that should be a problem for the cougs and they will end the regular sason with just two loses.
I also hate how ESPN only shows highlights of BYU when they lose.

And "Ute Fan Comments." I am not a Ute fan. I come on here and comment for one reason... YOUR ATTITUDE! You ask for it and you make it fun to be able to do this! My two favorite teams are not in the MWC and my favorite team in the MWC is UNM! Funny how you say "BYU will be 14-2 and UNM will be 14-4!" I have news for you! Not if (notice I said IF not WHEN) UNM hands it to you on your home floor! I don't say "when" because even though this is anonymous, I don't want to state something like that and be embarrassed when (if) it doesn't happen! Even if I am the only one that knows! I am sorry but you folks make is sooo much fun to talk smack and tease you. Yes indeed!

He is a fine man, good coach. But he get's out coached by Lon every time.

  • UNLV
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:23 p.m.

When I predicted a BYU defeat earlier in the week, I was called crazy. There was no way BYU was going to win in Vegas. BYU is great at home and average on the road against good opponents. Problem is the NCAA tournament is on the road.

  • JSDVEGAS
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:23 p.m.

BYU does not match up well against UNLV and UTAH does. ALso, this was suppose to be a rebuilding year at UNLV after losing 3 of our top players from last year. The bottom line - BYU has peaked and UNLV is still growing in experience and maturity. Utah - don't expect to see the same team you played in Vegas earlier this year. And don't expect the same result.

  • amber leaf
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:23 p.m.

BYU won that game. They won the last eight minutes of the first half and the entire second half. The Cougars are obviously the better team and the best team in the Mountain West Conference. I hope the conference officials will look into the unfair advantage teams like New Mexico and UNLV have on their home courts and do something to even things out. Most of the fans in Las Vegas shouldn't be allowed into the game. BYU would easily win that game on a neutral court. Being the best team in the conference, BYU shouldn't be subject to facing unfair advantages given to other teams when it is the Cougars who are recognized on the national scene and have the best chance of winning the National Championship. It is in the conferences best interests that BYU go undefeated.

  • o v e r r a t ed
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:24 p.m.

BYU all season long has been overrated. And Jimmer is nothing. He's a flopper, whiner and expects every call. I was at the game and was wondering how, just how is this kid doing what he does offensively and now I saw it. He drives to the basket, gets a phantom foul and goes to the line. NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL by BYU or Jimmer. Wait, do you hear that. It's the sound of BYU getting ready for its annual year end collapse (aka CHOKE). They'll make it to the NCAA and then lose their first game again. I can't believe how overrated they are - its got to be that not many of the people that do the rankings have seen their games. They're just not good.

  • Wow
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:29 p.m.

That troll who suggested the utes had a better football recruiting class really hit a nerve with the Cougar fan? Just an interesting observation.....

  • "loser" Utes ???
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:31 p.m.

"the "loser" Utes beat the Rebels in Vegas... "

Catchy nickname, but with all of the experience the Utes are getting at losing, it just might stick.

The "loser" Utes simply caught the Rebels napping after their big wins at NM and against SDSU. A team as pathetic as the Utes is easy to overlook.

Since steaing one in Vegas, however, the Utes have proven what kind of a team they and their fans really are...

    losers.

and we'll admit that. No, they did not look like the 12th best team in the country.

But Ute trolls trying to point to their team's win over UNLV are just silly. As a poster said above, Utah is irrelevant this year. At least BYU is going to the NCAA tourney, and Utah won't even make the NIT.

You say you aren't a BYU fan but you only comment on "people here" "who attack those who are doing well and set high goals and standards." You folks just don't understand how fun and entertaining this is to be a neutral here who moved to the area and is not a true fan of either school (until they play in the NCAA tournament not against one of my favorite Big 12 schools that is). LOL

  • Pretty obvious
    Feb. 6, 2010 5:37 p.m.

don't you think. BYU had a really bad day, a bad game, and deserved to lose, the way they played and the way UNLV out played them. The Y couldn't overcome the shock and get balanced again.

BUT, Yew Yewt trolls are embarrassing yourselves with all the zoobie trash. The way you have played all year is just like the Y played for this one UNLV game. You aren't a BYU fan, right? You are a Ute fan or an Aggie fan that does not like BYU trying to make BYU fans look bad aren't you? Seriously, "BYU won that game.?" You do realize that BYU shot 16 percent more free throws than UNLV right? You do realize that UNLV defended better and shot better, right? You do realize BYU shot twice as many free throws at home as UNLV (24-12) don't you? UNM did shoot more free throws on their court (not 100 percent more) but that couldn't be from them taking it to the hole and attacking the defense though? Nope, as I have said before and will say again. I am not a BYU hater... I was hoping the Y would do well in the NCAA tournament... on behalf if the MWC (if UNM doesn't). I am here because your arrogant, silly attitudes are fun to respond to and tease and jab at! You stop behaving the way you do, I will lose my interest. Why am I on here? Because I LIVE here! I don't live in NM (grew up in NW New Mexico). I follow the DN closely both for my son's basketball and for the in state (Utah, BYU, Utah State) basketball! And what does "beating your chest about imaginary wins" mean? Really, you lost me on that one! What point was proven here? That BYU fans can't accept that others like to poke fun at them because of their arrogant attitudes. Well, believe it... it is true! Thanks for the entertainment by the way. True class! BYU fan or not, you show class. Re UNLV Fan, honestly? UNLV isn't despised like this by Nevada fans? Why is that do you think? I don't think it would be that way here if most BYU fans were like @Anonymous | 5:50 p.m. I don't think it is Utah... they are really just another state school. Hmmm...

    Ouch!!!!!!

My wife and I went to the show after the first half -- and should have left earlier.

UNLV was outstanding. BYU looked like pretenders! UNLV spotlighted BYU's weaknesses. 'Nuff said about the Cougars.

This game will test their character. Unless they win the remainder of their games in the conference and make a good showing in the MWC Tournament, they are unlikely to do much in the NCAA Tournament.

Oh, and for the record. I am just as "put off" by Utah fan comments when the roles are reversed. When they are obviously hate-filled. I do enjoy the ribbing and teasing and seeing the way some folks react and can't take it and get all bent out of shape but I do not like the obviously venomous and hate-filled comments on either side! Go Lobos, go Jayhawks, go MWC in the NCAA tournament! Unless you play a Big 12 school that is! Cheers! Crap! San Diego State eliminated a 9 point deficit in the last 1:54!!!

Honestly, I think the Cougars begin to believe the excessive praise and adoration lavished on them by the DN and the local sports media.

There's nothing funnier to me than seeing yewt fans that are so embarrased of their own program they have to post anonymously. I guess when your team is that bad watching BYU lose is as good as it gets for little sister, but enough about those jokers.

The fact is, BYU still has the inside track for the regular season MWC title. Sure it's a 3 way tie now, but it's not as close as it looks since BYU has already played its three toughest road games going 1-2. BYU now has the easiest road from here on out. UNLV has to play UNM at home and at SDSU. UNM still has its toughest two games ahead of it at UNLV and at BYU. The only tough game left for BYU is home vs. UNM.

I also can't stand the officiating in the MWC. They're always biased for the home team (which benefits BYU when at home but hurts away). The zebras in the MWC are just crowd pleasers who don't have the mental fortitude to call a fair game, but you can't pin this one on the refs.

I have said it many times this year, and I was about to start believing BYU was a great team but this happens when you live and die by the 3 ball. Some teams understand how to defend that type of play and that doesn't bode well for BYU. BYU is a good team and this loss doesn't change that, it just needs to find another way to score besides the 3 ball.

The Cougars will need to do a lot better than this if they're going to win an NCAA game. They were absolutley pathetic on defense in the first half. Why do they got so freaked out about playing at UNLV? I would expect Tyler Haws to not do very well in a road game at a highly charged venue, he's just a freshman. But tonight was a really sad effort by this team. They better wake up and play with a lot more energy and heart.

Not as funny as you needing to convince yourself that all of these anonymous posters on here ribbing and teasing BYU are Ute fans!!!! Seriously, my boy is likely playing for Utah State, I grew up in SW Colorado rooting for the Lobos and still want them to win the conference championship! I have probably made a fourth of the posts on here ribbing and talking smack (but none hateful) about the shooting percentage differential, foul shooting totals, etc. No... I AM NOT a Ute fan. And I really find your comment about officials hilarious! You know BYU shot 24 free throws at BYU against twelve for UNLV. Do you realize BYU shot 22 free throws tonight against 19 for UNLV??? Do you realize BYU had a 7 point advantage in free throws??? So, if you consider the 7 free throws and the 14 point margin of victory, UNLV outscored BYU by 21 points on field goal differential!!! I suppose the refs made all those extra shots for UNLV? Oh, maybe they interfered with BYU shots to make them miss? Seriously dude. 21 point differential on field goals! BYU got beat, plain and simple... and soundly!!! Go Lobos!!!

Cougars played awful in first half, they couldn't buy a basket and everything UNLV threw up went in. Probably the worst half of basketball the Cougars have played this year. But its one game, the Cougars will rebound from this. Anyone here who thinks or expected the Cougars or any team to go undefeated in the conference is being very unrealistic. BYU will be fine, they only have 3 losses and are still tied for first.
As for the trolls... LOL are kidding me?, yewt fans shut your mouths and get a life. Your team is a joke and cant even break .500 and lets not forget that BYU destroyed utah just a week ago. I said BYU would win. I was amased at the way UNLV played. But here is the thing, BYU does not play tough enough with "street" games, Coach Rose should teach them to go after every lose ball. They have not got it yet, Miles needs to be dominant in the post. I hope He reads some of the comments--------He could be a force for good. I hope they get it together before the MWC tournament.

Who is taking solace in another team's loss? Who? Hilarious!!!! Especially funny given that most Utah fans, I think, I am not one. Have already conceded the season as a write off... it's over. Best year in BYU history on the hardwoods. Getting throttled by UNLV and only being in a three way tie for first...Priceless!!

We were at the game. Fredette was a selfish ball-hog who really hurt the Cougars. Bellfield distri-
buted the ball like a true point guard does. UNLV
played team basketball and got the result it wanted.

Just wondering exactly why you get such pleasure out of this? You seem to exactly match the profile of Utah trolls-although I would guess you may be a bit older-say 17 or 18 a senior in HS.

Although we react to your obvious hatred of BYU and all things blue, we actually root for the University of Utah in every game or match they play, except when it is against our Cougs.

Truly do not understand your hatred and your need to downplay any success at BYU.

Most of us were thrilled at delighted at Utah's BCS success. Over the years, we have rooted for Utah time after time in basketball, football, etc.

Unfortunately with a few much appreciated exceptions, we see very little of this from Ute fans.

Man I love this site and all the delusional puma fans.
"Outscoring your opponent doesnt always work" stated by chuckers is just ignorant. Seems to me that whenever a team "outscores" another-they win! What ignorance!
Listen, the REBELS are just better on the T&M floor and a neutral floor. UNLV would have beat the pumas in provo if we hadn't fell apart on the last 6 minutes.
byu will make the tournament because the ncaa has a love affair with them but you will lose in the first round, just like every March.
See you back at the T&M in March when you will get beat by SDSU or UNM. My REBELS wont even get the opportunity to beat you again this year!

Wow! There's a lot of people here dogpilling on BYU. Looks like when you're the best everybody seems to want to take a shot at you after you've had a bad game. I wonder if all the other PAC 10 schools dogpile on USC like this? Do all the SEC schools treat Florida like this? If that's the case, then it's good to be king!

When you choose to live or die by outside shooting, sometimes you're gonna die by it, because sooner or later you're gonna get outgunned. Despite the loss, BYU is still a fine team, just not the bigtime powerhouse their fans like to pretend they are!

Probably a little late for anyone to see, but to all those calling me a hypocrite for pointing out Utah had just lost to CSU, I'll type slowly so you can understand......I never commented on the article about the UU/CSU game...I comment on my own team's games. I was merely pointing out Utah fans have nothing of their own to brag about so their only outlet is to celebrate when BYU loses. So, if it makes you fell better to call ME the hypocrite I'm happy to be the balm for your wounds! Maybe when you play BYU at home all those fans disguised as empty seats will suddenly appear and your program will be relevant again for a couple hours and you can have something of your own to comment on.

  • IndianaCoug: understandable loss
    Feb. 7, 2010 2:56 p.m.

UNLV shot lights out. Their fans were amazing. I don't think a team in the country could have beat them last night in the Thomas and Mack. I think that leaves a lot of hope for the cougs. Every week there are several top ten teams that lose to unranked opponents. I still think this is the best BYU team to play in decades and this will be the year to break the one and done curse.

  • Oh really?
    Feb. 7, 2010 3:13 p.m.

Have you looked at any other rivalry blogs of other teams/conferences? The BYU/Utah/BYU haters rivalry is no different, except that there is a religious tone in many of the comments. I read an Oregon/Oregon St. blog the other day and I thought I was reading the Cougars/Utes. The problem with many of these posts is they are making generalizations about a group or team or fans. There are obviously many quality and classy fans on all sides, but unfortunately there will always be those who go too far. BYU was outplayed by a good UNLV team who was hot at home. It has happened to every team in the country this year. WY beat SDSU, Utah beat UNLV @ home, South Carolina beat Kentucky, yada, yada, yada. BYU did not quit and made a couple of runs. Should help them down the road. BYU did win a few games without Jimmer against good teams, including UNLV. When Jimmer plays within the offense and does not force things, they are a great team. When Jimmer goes outside the offense and he is not shooting well, they are not so good. Hopefully they remember what team is.

  • What is ...
    Feb. 7, 2010 6:29 p.m.

... it with all the utah fans bashing when their team is 11-12? I know you guys want to bash BYU but please do it when you have a team that backs up all the talking. This one loss obviously will drop the Cougars out of the Top 15, maybe Top 20 but really, their 3 losses were on the road to teams that generally have great home court advantages.
I do believe it hurts BYU that they don't have a big man to go to and teams that have figured out how to play solid perimeter defense (like my Aggies I'd like to add ;)) will likely beat the Cougars. Nonetheless, this was one game and will not make or break the Cougar season. I do believe, UNLV and USU have shown other teams how to handle BYU.
    Go Aggies!!!

What a great game. UNLV was on it Saturday and thats the way they should play everygame. Now, BYU is a very good basketball team. Been a fan of Coach Rose since his Dixie College days. As a conference we should all have a smile on out faces because now the national media is looking at our conference.

Now, for those who want another shoot at UNLV, be careful of what you ask for. You don't matchup with us. JT has one turnover his game goes to pot, and Haws as good as ge has played this season, he was not ready for that presseaure defence. Ferrette is a great player and possibly a NBA backup, but basketball is not a one man team and you need the rest of you players to step up. Goodluck the rest of the season. See you at the MWC Tourney.

Are you serious? I did just read the first page of posts. 4 negative comments where Utah allegiance is claimed and two of those are commenting about YOU (you like to dish it out but can't take it) not the BYU team or game. One negative comment is implied Utah allegiance because it mentions football recruiting. All the others are anonymous or state their allegiance to Utah State, UNM, Kansas, UNLV! I know you want to believe that every negative comment (which to you seems to even include stating the truth about free throws, defense or shooting percentages) but you simply can't do that because it is not true. Yes, I believe a lot of the "contrary" comments are Utah fans but not all! Go Lobos (where I grew up), go Jayhawks (yes, where I was born)!!!

Those 11 points are still 11 points. If he can get more points come then most from drawing fouls, then I don't see how you could objectively call that a bad thing. It isn't "fraud". It is just one way of scoring in basketball. However, I don't think he would be able to do it very well at the next level. As a matter of fact, I don't know how well he could do anything at the next level... but of course I thought similarly about Austin Collie when he went to the NFL and he just played well in a Super Bowl loss after playing well all season.

    Feb. 8, 2010 4:16 p.m.

Man, you BYU fans really have a hard time admitting defeat. UNLV shot it well, but don't you think that might partially have something to do with their defense? And maybe BYU didn't shoot as well because of UNLV's defense?
BYU scheduled an easy OOC schedule. They play a hard game and they buckle. They can't win hard games on the road, and barely escaped with a win at SDSU.

You should really think long and hard about being honest with yourself. Im not saying that UNLV is the greatest team ever, just that BYU isn't as good as they think. "UNLV got hot in the first half..." blah blah blah. Its college basketball. Its part of the game. I can't wait to wear my red tie to church tomorrow and listen to all the Vegas BYU people make the same EXCUSES that you are making on here, while I know that UNLV won the game fair and square.

I agree with JSDVEGAS that BYU has hit their peak. They may go the national tournament this year and most likely will, but they will get eliminated in the second round if not the first. They simply do not have any of the things it takes to get a national chamionship in basket, football, or any other sport for that matter.

  • Re: Excuses
    Feb. 9, 2010 2:01 p.m.

Nobody said UNLV cheated to win the game or that UNLV somehow didn't deserve to win the game. What BYU fans are saying (mostly in response to the "overrated" comments) is that BYU is still the best team in the MWC and deserving of a top-20 ranking. I agree there are times where poor shooting by one team is due to exceptional defense by another and where good shooting is because of poor defense. But that's not always the case. Sometimes players miss wide open shots they usually make because they're just having an off night. It wasn't as though BYU had a hand in their face on every three point shot and it wasn't as though UNLV was only shooting wide open shots all game. There are individual differences which is why we look at the whole body of work rather than one game. As it stands right now, BYU is in the best position to win the league because it's played the toughest in league schedule so far and is still tied for first. This isn't an excuse, it's a fact.
