A little adversity can be a good thing, Utah's Kim says
Could someone please tell me why the Ute women's gymnastics team is being called
the "Red Rocks"? Thanks.
Red...School Color, Rocks...Is wonderful.Red...School Color, Rocks...Is
strong as a rock. The 1992 Utah media guide cover pictured a fantastically
well conditioned Utah gymnastics team clad in beautiful white cap sleeve
leotards with the caption "RED ROCKS". The caption stuck and the gymnastics
team has been known as the RED ROCKS eversince.
These athletes are solid muscle, in the school color, of course. (Also a
reference to southern Utah's natural redrock scenery.) Plus, Utah fans expect a
good show -- and when they deliver, they ROCK!
Some of us are wondering why the gymnasts hair isn't neater. It is one thing to
do the funky bun, but it seems to us that the messy falling down front hair in
the face would be distracting. The gymnasts all used to do braids, or some sort
of twisting to keep that hair back and we think it presented a much better
image. We have a saying messy hair makes for messy performance. The gymnasts
just looked disheviled and out of sorts last night. We still are super fans and
love them to death. We just think a little gel would go a long way for a neat
appearance to go with their great ability and wonderful leotards.
Who does their hair? I have wondered that. The Red Rocks have similar hair do's,
ribbon, glitter, with twists, braids, and sometimes curls. Is there someone on
the team in charge of that?
