Fredette had the biggest game of his career to that point by scoring 26 points against the No. 6 Demon Deacons and eventual NBA draft pick Jeff Teague in front of a packed house. He scored 18 of those points in the opening half on 7-of-11 shooting. He also had nine assists.

Fredette helped the Cougars avenge an earlier loss to the Utes by scoring 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting, and 8-of-9 from the line. The sophomore\\\'s jumper right before halftime cut Utah\\\'s lead to 28-26. His put-back basket over Utah center Luke Nevill late in the game kept BYU on top.

Fredette ignited his junior season by scoring a then career-high 33 points in a shoot-out win over the Wolfpack at the Las Vegas Classic. He hit 11-of-16 shots with six assists and three steals. He scored 22 points in the second half.

Fredette set a BYU scoring record in the Utah/BYU rivalry with 36 points on 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range and 10-of-12 from the free throw line. His back-to-back threes in the second half broke the game open. It was after this game that Utes coach Jim Boylen said Fredette should consider entering the NBA draft early.

Fredette, still a sophomore, established himself as one of the MWC\\\'s top players when he helped the Cougars comeback from a 14-point first-half deficit to outscore the Aztecs by 23 in the second half. He tied a then career-high with 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting with five steals. He scored 20 points in the second half as BYU won at SDSU for the first time in five years.

Fredette led the Cougars to a first-round win over the Horned Frogs at the MWC Tournament by scoring a tournament-record 45 points, with 30 of those coming in the second half. He also set school and tournament records by making 23-of-24 free throws and 21-of-21 from the line in the second half. He added six assists and four rebounds.

Fredette not only led the Cougars to their first NCAA Tournament win in 17 years by tying a BYU NCAA Tournament record with 37 points, but his performance put him in the national spotlight as one of college basketball top players. He hit 13-of-26 shots and 8-of-9 free throws, and his two long 3-pointers in the second overtime sealed the historic win.

The national "who is this guy?" mumbling began in this game when Fredette shocked and impressed the McKale Center crowd with a BYU-record and Arizona-opponent record 49 points. He made 16-of-23 shots, connected on 9-of-13 shots from 3-point range, and sank 8 of 9 free throws. He scored 24 in the first half and 25 in the second half in handing the Wildcats their worst defeat in McKale Center history. He also had nine assists, seven rebounds and two steals.
