PRIORITY ONE

With Jay Hill moving on to Weber State, Utah’s Kyle Whittingham has taken on the additional duty of coaching special teams.

“A lot of times you wouldn’t think the head coach would care that much about special teams,” kicker Andy Phillips told the Deseret News. “But special teams is the most important thing on this team — is what he says — and he expects us to perform that way.”

Rock On is no genius, but considering the problems Utah has had with its quarterbacks, wouldn’t THAT be the most important thing on the team?

Sports Business Journal says the NFL is partnering with an app developer to allow fans to order stadium services such as upgraded seats and a “fly-by” lane to avoid waiting.

Also in the works: pregame field access, mascot availability, and in-seat visits from cheerleaders.

Is it just Rock On, or does the NFL seem to be creeping closer than it should to the XFL?

The World Wide Web was invented 25 years ago this month.

Which is also the last time a coach said, “OK, here’s the real story, but you have to keep it off the record.”

Levi Strauss & Co. is reportedly laying off 800 workers in the next 18 months.

At the same time, it has purchased the naming rights to the 49ers new stadium.

Clearly, it’s easy to tell who wears the pants in this organization.

PLAYING CHICKEN

Jazz forward Richard Jefferson told the Deseret News on Saturday that they’re still playing hard.

“We’re rarely laying eggs,” he said.

What is losing 15 of 17 games, baking a cake?

TATTOOICALLY CHALLENGED

An 18-year-old Norwegian teen had a McDonald’s receipt tattooed to his arm.

Sources say it was the only design available that hadn’t been claimed by Miami’s Chris “Birdman” Andersen.

DON’T ASK

Patriots coach Bill Belichick has seldom been an easy interview. But he outdid himself at last week’s AFC Coaches’ Breakfast, when a reporter asked if there’s a timetable for the return of injured tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Belichick’s response: “Are you seriously asking that question?”

No. So Coach, how do you feel about the new Waffle Taco at Taco Bell?

A BUG'S LIFE

BYU’s Ryker Mathews on the Cougars’ 2014 football schedule: “I’m as bugged and weirded out as you are about Utah not being on the schedule.”

Which bugged and weirded out nearly as many people as that “Tradition,” “Spirit” “Honor” idea.
