The 2006 Winter Olympics were a few months removed from Turin when the social networking site Twitter was born, but now, as a plethora of live-tweeted events, the #SochiProblems hashtag and sponsored tweets show, it has become an integral part of the spectacle. But what does one say to the world immediately after winning a coveted Olympic medal? An examination of the tweets of U.S. Olympians who medaled in the Games show elation, gratitude, patriotism, and yes, sometimes candid disappointment.
