With the 2014 Sochi Olympics coming to a close, there have been plenty of great moments and special quotes.

Here's a compilation of our favorites from the Winter Olympics:

Andrew Matthews, Great Britain bobsledder on pre-race routines

"We eat as much as possible and slap each other in the face."

Mikaela Shiffrin, slalom gold medalist

"It was either waterproof or no mascara because if I start crying, I do not want to look like a witch."

Mikaela Shiffrin, youngest American woman to win a slalom gold medal

"For the crowd, for the world watching, miracles give them hope that something like that could happen for themselves. And so my goal coming to the Olympics was to prove that miracles are not random, you're in charge of your own destiny, you can really control that, I wanted to come here and create your own miracle."

Jillert Anema, Netherlands speedskating coach

"You have a lot of attention for a foolish sport like American football. You waste a lot of athletic talent in a sport where it's meant to kill each other, to injure each other and nobody in the world is competing with you at that field."

Eddy Alvarez after helping the U.S. short-track relay team to a silver medal. It was the only medal won by U.S. speedskaters

"It's so relieving, so relieving. I literally feel like I just came out of a spa."

Shani Davis after U.S. men's long-track team lost its quarterfinal pursuit race against Canada by more than three seconds

"Wow, what a day. What an Olympics; that was rough."

Steve Holcomb after winning the first U.S. Olympic medal in two-man bobsled since 1952

"This is my second 62-year drought, which is awesome. If anybody else has a 62-year drought they need to break, let me know. I'll try to help you out."

Steve Langton on whether pilot Steve Holcomb's leg injury threatened their ability to compete

"I would have carried the sled down the start ramp if I had to."

Elana Meyers, USA 1 bobsled pilot on her Canadian rival and gold medalist Kaillie Humphries, who beat Meyers by one-tenth of a second in Sochi

"I invited her to the wedding. I am going to make sure she has lots of cake to slow her down for next season."

Tatyana Ivanova (Russia) on the idea of women participating in doubles luge

"Oh no. It would be too much. Two girls in one room is a mess. If two girls were on a luge, they would pull each other's eyes out."

Noelle Pikus-Pace, discussing all she's been through before earning a silver medal in Sochi

"I know what trials are, and I know we can overcome them. As hard as things are, we just always have to find that sunny side, we just always have to stay on the positive side and we'll find ways to make it through."

Shani Davis after leaving his fourth Olympic Games without a single medal

"I wanted nothing more than to have success here, to kind of close out my career as a speedskater, but it didn't happen. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth knowing that I put a lot of work into it, but I didn't get anything out of it. … But I'm a believer in what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

Alexey Voevoda, Russia 1 push athlete

"For sportsmen, the price of victory is blood and sweat."
