Week six was a rough one for local teams except BYU. The Utes fell to UCLA at home, USU had a disastrous game against the Cougars and Weber State fell to Eastern Washington.

This week of college football also produced some exciting upsets, such as Notre Dame's win over Arizona State. Furthermore, it also had controversial games such as Texas' win over Iowa State and Stanford's over Washington.

Here's how BYU, Utah and USU's opponents fared this week.

BYU COUGARS

Finally, BYU looked like BYU again against Utah State.

Quarterback Taysom Hill passed for 278 yards and threw three touchdown passes to Mitch Mathews in BYU's 31-14 win over the Aggies in Logan. While that's not exactly a performance worthy of Ty Detmer, it was a welcome sight to BYU fans.

Virginia Cavaliers



Record: 2-3

Last week: Lost 48-27 to Ball State (5-1)

Up next: at Maryland (4-1)

The Cavaliers couldn't stop the high-powered Ball State offense as quarterback Keith Wenning and running back Jahwan Edwards combined for five touchdowns. Read more about Virginia's loss in the Washington Post.

Texas Longhorns

Record: 3-2

Last week: Won 31-30 at Iowa State (1-3)

Up next: vs. Oklahoma (4-0)

It was a controversial win in Ames, but it was a win nonetheless. A big non-call on a Johnathan Gray fumble right at the goal line was huge as Case McCoy scored the go-ahead touchdown just two plays later.

Utah Utes

Record: 3-2

Last week: Lost 34-27 vs. UCLA (4-0)

Up next: vs. Stanford (5-0)

The Utes' defense did the best it could to limit the high-powered UCLA offense, but six turnovers were the stat of the game as Utah fell to 0-2 in Pac-12 play. Read more about Utah's heartbreaking loss from the Deseret News' Dirk Facer.

Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders

Record: 3-3

Last week: Lost 24-17 vs. East Carolina (4-1)

Up next: at North Texas (2-3)

The Blue Raiders put up a valiant effort after their 37-10 loss to BYU. However, East Carolina was just too much to beat at home. Read more about MTSU's loss in the Fayetteville Observer.

Utah State Aggies

Record: 3-3

Last week: Lost 31-14 vs. BYU (3-2)

Up next: vs. Boise State (3-2)

Things couldn't have gone much worse for Utah State against BYU. The first play from scrimmage was a Chuckie Keeton interception returned for a touchdown, and later in the first quarter Keeton tore his ACL and MCL, putting him out for the season.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets



Record: 3-2

Last week: Lost 45-30 at Miami (Fla.)

Up next: at BYU (3-2)

Georgia Tech made Miami sweat as it forced four turnovers, but the Yellow Jackets weren't able to run with the Hurricanes in the end. Read more about Georgia Tech's loss in the Miami Herald.

Houston Cougars

Up next: Memphis (1-3)

Houston's high-powered offense got a week off after dominating UTSA 59-28 the previous week. Next up, the Cougars face Memphis to improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in C-USA.

Boise State Broncos

Record: 3-2

Up next: at Utah State (3-3)

Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin had the bye week to reflect on its tough 31-24 loss to Ohio State. Up next the Badgers face another team that just narrowly missed beating the Buckeyes in Northwestern.

Idaho State Bengals

UTAH UTES

Utah's struggles against Pac-12 competition continued as six turnovers doomed the Utes in their 34-27 loss to UCLA this week. That loss drops the Utes to 7-13 in Pac-12 play since the Utes joined the conference.

And it only gets tougher as No. 5 Stanford rolls into town.

Utah is in the middle of its toughest stretch of its difficult schedule, and the Utes need some conference wins to make it to a bowl game. Here's how Utah's opponents did in week six.

Utah State Aggies

Arizona has spent the last week shaking off its 31-13 loss to Washington last week. Up next, the Wildcats get a shot of redemption against the Lane Kiffin-less Trojans in Los Angeles.

USC Trojans

No. 22 Arizona State Sun Devils

Record: 3-2

Last week: Lost 37-34 to Notre Dame (4-2)

Up next: vs. Colorado (2-2)

Arizona State had a chance to notch an impressive win over the Fighting Irish at Cowboys Stadium, but the Sun Devils weren't able to hang on and Notre Dame took the close 37-34 win.

No. 2 Oregon Ducks

Record: 5-0

Last week: Won 57-16 at Colorado (2-2)

Up next: at Washington

After a bye week, Oregon's high-flying offense got right back to work as it dropped 57 points on hapless Colorado. However, there's still plenty of room for improvement as The Oregonian reports.

Washington State Cougars

Record: 4-2

Last week: Won 44-22 at Cal (1-4)

Up next: vs. Oregon State (4-1)

Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday led the Cougars to a big win despite dealing with a dislocated rib. He passed for 521 yards, which was just 10 shy of Alex Brink's record.

Colorado Buffaloes

Record: 2-2

Last week: Lost 57-16 at Oregon (5-0)

Up next: at Arizona State (3-2)

Colorado's big loss to Colorado hurt, but at least there were some positives from this game. CB Greg Henderson made two interceptions, and he leads the nation with four on the year.

The Denver Post muses over the good things from the Buffaloes' loss.

UTAH STATE AGGIES

Calling USU's game against BYU a tough loss is a severe understatement.

The Aggies gave up a pick six on the first play from scrimmage, and they lost Chuckie Keeton for the season to a knee injury in the first quarter. On top of that, BYU finally found its passing game against the USU defense as the Cougars won 31-14 in Logan.

That wasn't how the Aggies planned last Saturday to go.

However, USU remains unbeaten in MWC play and must quickly prepare for Boise State next week. So, here's how Utah State's opponents did in week six.

Norm Chow's struggles at Hawaii continued as the Warriors fell to 0-5 after losing to San Jose State. According to Hawaii News Now, that's Hawaii's worst start in 15 years.

After a 0-2 start, the Rebels are on a roll with three-straight victories. That string is likely to continue as win-less Hawaii comes to town this week.

Colorado State Rams

Colorado State finished its non-conference slate 2-3 and now looks to open MWC play on the right foot hosting San Jose State. The Rams have played against No. 1 Alabama, which experience should serve them well in conference play.

Wyoming was off to a solid start before a shocking 42-21 loss to Texas State before the bye week. After a long week to think about that loss, the Cowboys have a chance to get back on track against New Mexico this week.
