The 2013 college football season is just days away from beginning, and national media publications are cranking out stories leading up to kickoff.

Among those hyped-up articles are bowl predictions for the 2013 postseason.

According to the national media, both BYU and Utah State are locks to make the postseason in 2013; in six recently published articles, the Cougars and Aggies were predicted to go bowling every time.

Utah, which missed going to the postseason last year for the first time since 2002, did receive one writer's pick to make a bowl. The other prognosticators are guessing the Utes will be home again for the holidays.

Who are the local teams predicted to meet in bowl games this season, and where will they be headed?

Mark Schlabach's picks

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl: BYU vs. Arizona

Sheraton Hawaii Bowl: Utah State vs. East Carolina

Brad Edwards' picks

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl: BYU vs. Washington

Sheraton Hawaii Bowl: Utah State vs. Rice

NOTE: Both Schabach and Edwards agree that the Cougars and Aggies are bowl-bound, and they agree on the destinations. Both the Huskies and Wildcats, BYU's predicted opponents, made the postseason in 2012, with Washington falling to Boise State in the Maaco Bowl Las Vegas and Arizona edging Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl. For the Aggies, a second consecutive bowl berth would be played against a Conference USA opponent who also went bowling last season.

Stewart Mandel, SI.com

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl: BYU vs. USC

Poinsettia Bowl: Utah State vs. West Virginia

NOTE: Of all the predictions, this one brings in the greatest name appeal. The Cougars last played USC in 2004, and a victory over the Trojans would be a worthy accomplishment for Bronco Mendenhall, who already has a 6-2 bowl record. For the Aggies, a matchup with West Virginia would be a big upgrade over Utah State's opponent in the last bowl season, Toledo. Mandel has the Mountaineers taking Army's spot in the San Diego bowl, predicting the Black Knights won't become bowl eligible.

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl: BYU vs. Washington

New Mexico Bowl: Utah State vs. Arizona

NOTE: The Cougars' matchup here would pit BYU against former quarterback Steve Sarkisian; the last time the Huskies and Cougars met, BYU earned the 23-17 win in 2010. For the Aggies, this matchup would put Utah State up against an Arizona team that scored 49 points in its bowl game last season.

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl: BYU vs. UCLA

Poinsettia Bowl: Utah State vs. Washington

NOTE: Of all of the Cougars' predicted opponents, this is the first one that is ranked in the preseason polls. UCLA enters the 2013 season ranked No. 21 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls. Washington, like Utah State with Chuckie Keeton, features a strong-armed quarterback in Keith Price; he threw for 2,726 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2012. Palm has Washington as a replacement team for Army in the Poinsettia Bowl.

Orlando Sentinel

Full Orlando Sentinel bowl projection

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl: BYU vs. Washington

New Mexico Bowl: Utah State vs. Arizona

Poinsettia Bowl: Utah vs. Fresno State

NOTE: The Sentinel's Matt Murschel is the lone prognosticator to pick the Utes to go to a bowl game. He predicts Utah's postseason-less woes of 2012 won't extend to 2013, and the Utes will match up with former WAC opponent Fresno State in San Diego. (The Sentinel will update its predictions each week.) BYU and Utah State earn postseason matchups already predicted.

Dave Miller, National Football Post

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl: BYU vs. UCLA

Armed Forces Bowl: Utah State vs. Tulane

NOTE: This is the second prediction for a Cougars-Bruins bowl matchup in San Francisco. The last time these two teams met in a bowl game, Eathyn Manumaleuna blocked a UCLA field goal in the final seconds as BYU won 17-16 in the 2007 Las Vegas Bowl. Manumaleuna is a senior on this year's team. Miller predicts Utah State will head to Dallas as the MWC's No. 3 team, while Tulane will be a replacement team in the Armed Forces Bowl. The Green Wave, who went 2-10 in 2012, last went to a bowl game in 2002.
