Whatever the situation may be, familiarizing yourself with these varied parking restrictions along city streets could help you avoid getting a ticket. Or worse - the vehicle could be impounded. Policies apply to all vehicles: cars, trucks, trailers or boats.

Salt Lake City

Policy: There aren't any specific parking regulations with regard to snowfall for the winter season. The snowplows will maneuver around parked cars to clear the roads, according to city officials.

Fines: Warnings and fines will not be issued, but it is asked if any accumulation of snow is on the street to move the vehicle so the snowplow can clear it.

West Valley City

Effective dates: Anytime

Policy: At any time when there is more than one inch of snow, vehicles need to be off the street.

Fines: If a snowplow reports your car in violation, police can issue a citation, a $120 fine or even tow the vehicle.

Centerville

Policy: No overnight parking of any vehicles on city streets from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Fines: Warnings issued the first two weeks of November, then citations will be left. If the same vehicles has two parking citations the vehicle will be impounded.

Effective dates: Nov. 1 to March 15

Policy: If a vehicle remains parked on the road for more than 48 hours and has become snowbound, it can be subject for removal and impounded. Also, if the vehicle is parked in a way that snowplows can't pass, it is subject to being impounded.

Provo

American Fork

Effective dates: Nov. 1 to March 31

Policy: No parking on city streets when there is a measurable amount of snow on the street and the street has not been plowed since the snow fell.

Policy: If there's a snowstorm, no parking on city streets. During the day parking is allowed depending on certain circumstances.

Policy: No vehicles on the street when it is snowing or if it has recently snowed.

Fines: Warnings are issued, citations are rarely given.

South Jordan

Effective dates: November 1 to March 1

Policy: South Jordan has an alternate street parking policy that lasts 72 hours after a snow storm. Restrictions are as follows: Starting at 8 a.m. on odd numbered days vehicles should be parked only where odd street numbers are. After 8 a.m. the following day (an even numbered day) vehicles can only be parked on the same side of the street as even numbered buildings.

Fines: $25

Policy: No parking from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. on the street or city-owned parking lot.

Fines: First offense is $20 fine. If citation hasn't been paid after 10 days it increases to $40.
