NAPLES, Uintah County — A 7-year-old girl was seriously injured Tuesday after her right foot was pinned under the front tire of a UPS truck, Naples police said.
The girl was playing with other children just before 5:40 p.m. when she ran past a pair of garbage cans sitting at the curb and into the street near the intersection of 460 East and 1500 South, Naples Police Cpl. Garrett Whatcott said.
The driver of a northbound UPS truck approaching the stop sign at 460 East hit the girl, the corporal said.
"She wasn't going very fast," Whatcott said. "The driver got out, took a look at the situation and it was determined that the front tire was still on the little girl. So she backed up off the little girl so first aid could be applied."
The girl, whose name was not immediately released, was taken by ambulance to Ashley Regional Medical Center in Vernal, then flown to a Salt Lake area hospital for more specialized treatment, Whatcott said.
No citations have been issued. The crash remains under investigation.
