LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Utah Valley University golfer Lynn-Marié Nagel moved up 18 spots at New Mexico State's Price's Give `Em Five Intercollegiate by shooting par on Tuesday. The 72 moved Nagel from a tie for 47th after one round to a tie for 29th after two.
The three-day/54-hole tournament will conclude Wednesday with a shotgun start slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring can be followed by visiting Golfstat's website.
Nagel's 72 during Tuesday's second round is a new season-low for the junior. To record the par score, Nagel carded two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars. For the tournament, Nagel leads Utah Valley at 6-over-par (150) after shooting a 78 during the first round and an even 72 during round two.
Sophomore Cassandra Lesa had the next best day for UVU on Tuesday as she carded a 4-over 76 to remain in the tie for 47th place at +10 (154). Behind her, junior Brooke Whittaker recorded a 7-over 79 during Tuesday's second round to place her into a tie for 57th place at +12 (156). Whittaker led the Wolverines on Monday at 5-over but dropped 16 spots in the standings after carding a +7 on Tuesday.
The Wolverines remain in 14th place as a team after shooting a 309 (21-over-par) on Tuesday. The second round tally was nine strokes better than the 318 that UVU put up Monday.
Also competing for Utah Valley at the tournament are redshirt freshman Kimberly Nyhus and junior Hannah Herman. Nyhus carded a 10-over 82 on Tuesday to keep her in a tie for 74th place at +23 (167), while Herman remains in 77th after carding 11-over. Herman's 83 on Tuesday was four strokes better than her 87 that she recorded Monday (170).
UVU will enter Wednesday's final round with a total of 627, 15 shots back of 13th-place UTEP. The Wolverines also find themselves just 18 shots back of 12th-place BYU and 21 back of 11th-place Tulsa. UC Irvine leads the tournament at 1-over-par (577), while Portland State is just two shots back.
Portland State's A Ram Choi leads the tournament by a stroke at 3-under-par after shooting a 73 on Tuesday.
Following Wednesday's final round, UVU will prepare for its final tournament of the fall season that will take place Oct. 29-31 in Wahaiwa, Hawai'i.
