The Utah State Office of Education sponsored a meeting in Alpine to discuss aspects of the Common Core — a broad framework of educational standards that have been adopted in whole or in part in 45 states.
Comments exchanged between parents, educators and citizens at the meeting became heated at times, as shown in the video on the left.
The Common Core is a framework for setting academic standards nationally. But as U.S. News & World Report published yesterday, “lawmakers in some states hope to halt the transition to the Common Core State Standards, even as school districts across the country are rolling them out.”
Today at 4 p.m., the Deseret News live streamed a USOE sponsored meetings from Davis County’s district office building in Farmington.
An in-depth story on the Common Core is forthcoming. In the meantime, here are some additional news stories, op-eds and letters to the editor about the Common Core Standards.
