Verbena Lovendahl Nielsen1918 ~ 2011Verbena Lovendahl Nielsen, born on February 22, 1918 to Emma Jane Dansie and Christian Richard Lovendahl, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2011. Raised in Riverton, Utah she attended Riverton Jr. High and Riverton High School. She married Joseph James Nielsen on August 30, 1937; they lived in Herrmian, West Jordan and Kearns, Utah. They were blessed with 6 children: 4- girls and 2 boys, Joan, Sharon, Linda, Denis, Wayne and Shawna. They were married and sealed to each other in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1952. While living in West Jordan she took care of Joe and the 6 children in a four room house, living room, kitchen, bedroom and utility room. The family of 8 slept and lived out of one room. There was no indoor restroom. In 1955 they moved to Kearns, Utah which had one indoor bathroom and 3 bedrooms, it was a mansion compared to the previous home. She was active in the LDS church, Relief Society and many other callings that were assigned to her. Her first Ward in Kearns was the Kearns 8th Ward which the whole family attended. Joe had a 1967 "Camper Special" Truck with a large camper, his brother, Allen Nielsen had one about the same type. Joe, Verbena, Allen and Fern took a trip through the Western States and down the California Coast. Along the way they visited as many LDS Temple as they could.Benny and her family enjoyed the beautiful Rocky Mountains. The whole family would spend many summer days on a picnic in the canyons. Mom would cook from breakfast to dinner on a Coleman camper stove. She enjoyed fishing at Silver Lake near Brighton; sometimes she would catch two fish at a time. Joe passed away in 1980. He was 64 and mom was 62. Her oldest son Denis passed way in 1988, he was 44 and mom was 70 years old. Now living in the house by herself, Benny MADE it her house, molded and decorated her way. She even had a garage built for her very own car. It now was Gam's house. When the last of her siblings passed away, mom would say, "I am all alone now." We would kindly remind her that she won, she outlived them all. At her 90th birthday party she claimed she was, "The Bell of the Ball."The family would like to thank the staff at Hazen Nursing Home for all of their loving care they gave our mother. Funeral services for Benny will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Valley View Funeral Home Chapel, 4335 West 4100 South, where friends may visit with the family on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and one hour prior to the services.
