John E. Furness 1912 ~ 2011 John E. Furness our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peace-fully at home July 21, 2011 from cancer. John, age 99, was born June 7, 1912 to Edmund Ernst Furness and Mary King Henderson, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the second of three children. He was married to his sweetheart Della S. Furness on June 11, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. He is survived by his son, Roger (Sharron), daughters, Mary Furness and Martha (Wayne ) Smith; daughter-in-law, Sharon (Sherri) Furness; sister-in-law, Phyllis Spencer; brother-in-law Milton De Gering, a niece Karen (James) Boettcher. Besides his four children, he has 12 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Della, his son, John Edmund (Ed) Furness Jr., his parents, two sisters, and a niece. He was an active member of the LDS church holding several positions. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather who was greatly loved by all. He began working for Henderson Wheel and Rim, moved on to Success Tire and then owned his own motels until his retirement at age 57. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake Foothill 7th Ward, 2215 E. Roosevelt Avenue SLC (2200 E & R.A.). Friends may call Sunday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr. & Monday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the ward building. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, make a donation to your favorite charity.
