Polly Rice 1929 ~ 2011 Parekura (Polly) Rangihaea Enoka Rice peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2011 with family at her side.Polly was born on December 27, 1929 in Pukio, New Zealand. She was one of nine children. She served LDS missions to Christchurch, New Zealand and the New Zealand Temple. In 1954, Polly followed her sweetheart to the United States and was sealed to Charles Andrew Rice. Charles and Polly were blessed to adopt their four children and resided in Clinton for 55 years. Mom was dedicated and passionate about her family and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She saw each individual as a friend and child of God. Always wearing a smile, she never said unkind words about others and was a friend to all that knew her. Her selfless and charitable actions blessed many throughout her life. Dad always said, "We will never be rich because Mom gives it all away." She never had a hair out of place and kept busy tending to her immaculate flower beds, quilting projects, and genealogy. Honoring family traditions and heritage remained a key aspect of Mom's life with formal Sunday dinners and annual trips to Metropolis, Nevada. Mom always kept a large stack of clean linens in the closet and a tightly packed fridge to warmly welcome visiting family and friends. Mom never asked for anything and material possessions meant very little. She stretched pennies into dollars and worked hard alongside her loving companion through 57 wonderful years of marriage. Mom generously served others in many capacities, including PTA president, state PTA board member, active participant in local party caucuses, member of the Clintones (local singing group), bishop's storehouse secretary, Relief Society president, choir director, chorister, full-time missionary, and instructor in other teaching roles. Mom also served others through her love of music. Although she never had a voice lesson, Mom's beautiful gift of singing was freely shared in many sacrament meetings, weddings, and funerals. Although we will miss her dearly, we know that a magnificent reunion has taken place with parents and siblings that preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Rice; four children, Arlin, Lauretta Sechrest (Scott), Lani Hoye (Jeff), and Laurn (Katie); 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Clinton 10th Ward Chapel, 702 West 1300 North, Clinton. Friends and family may call Myers Mortuary on Friday, July 29, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 5865 South 1900 West, Roy and at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday prior to services.
