David S. Gordon "Great Teacher" David Simon Gordon passed away April 13, 2011 in Draper, Utah of causes incident to age. Born January 15, 1929 in Spokane, Washington to Ralph Raymond and Vera Louise Stone Gordon. Dad grew up in Washington and Oregon. Served as an Air Force Chaplin during the Korean War in Germany, earning the rank of Corporal upon his discharge. Dad met his wife of 56 years, Janice Morrissey, at church in Pasco, Washington. After a quick courtship they were married June 14, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Dad and mom were dorm parents to many girls while attending school at BYU. Dad earned his teaching degree and taught elementary school in Oregon for eight years before returning to Utah where he taught 5th and 6th grade at Lake Ridge Elementary in the Granite School District for 28 years before retiring. During those 28 years he was privileged to teach his kids, kids, kids and was known to be a very loving and popular teacher who prided himself on making sure his students received a well-rounded education. After his retirement, Dad enjoyed tending his yard and caring for Mom as well as serving as a worker in the Jordan River Temple for many years. Dad was a High Priest in the LDS Church. Survived by his wife, Janice; son, Jamie David (Robyn) Gordon, West Jordan; daughters, Deborah Sue (Paul) Milligan, Layton; Rebekah Louise (Narciss) LeFort, Aberdeen, SD; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; son, Lamont Andrew Gordon. The family wishes to express gratitude to the Jordan Valley Hospital and the Draper Rehabilitation Care Center for their wonderful help during the past few weeks. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the West Jordan Welby 9th Ward, 8841 South 4800 West. Viewings will be held Tuesday, 6-8:00p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Wednesday at the church, 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, West Jordan City Cemetery.
