ST. GEORGE — The Utah Cross, a medal for bravery, was presented to Utah National Guard Sgt. Austin Miller, Bravo Battery, 2nd Battalion, 222nd Field Artillery, during a ceremony at the St. George Armory on Sunday.

Miller, a resident of Cedar City, witnessed a traffic accident Sept. 17 while in the service of the Utah National Guard in support of the Hildale flood search-and-recovery operations.

Miller rushed to aid a 14-year-old boy who was critically injured. The teen was unconscious and asphyxiating on his own blood. Miller initiated life-saving measures to clear the teen's airway then stayed by the victim's side and continued first aid until paramedics arrived.
